Roast Essendon in no mans land

Rozee broke the game open - it was an amazing personal performance. What changed in the game that had me scratching my head was how teh Port mids were allowed so much forward of the contest space to run into- and mainly off the back of the tap work direction of the Port Ruckman- it was copy paste for too long and left unattended to by the Essendon Ruckmen and midfield structures -something that can easily be addressed by the coaches.

Biggest problem is Parish. He's absolutely detrimental to our ability to defend stoppage. Doesn't tackle, doesn't move to defensive side of the stoppage ever, never reads the handball receive opposition so he constantly gives them extras goal side. Might be worth it if he was ultra damaging with the pill but he's not even decent. Put Durham in for him last night and we defend stoppage 10x better. Probably better than half the loss given their dominance there. Need to keep stacking 185cm+ plus mids that can run and upgrade our small forwards before we are serious.

just being courteous in case a word triggers any moderators

Of course the Carlton Cohort discusses Essendon, they have a thread dedicated to Essendon on there own board. They live completely unhinged by EFC hence the constant bashing of us

Courteous you say, is that you trolling our board after you beat us last year and getting banned?

Stop feigning like you're hard done by

Saad was offered a 4 year deal @ 600k by Essendon? Who offers that to a selfish player that won’t buy in, that is one slip up away from his career ending?

More likely he saw the trajectory of both clubs and made a great career choice.

He'll never be a pure blooded Carlton player or Essendon player. He's a blow in from the Gold Coast.

Only those you draft from day 1 are truly your own.

That reminds me of the Crowbot stance in 2017 which didn't end well
Essendon edge and North ball have one thing in common.
Both are marketing gimmicks created by irrelevant clubs in attempts to sell hope to their supporter bases.

to be fair, the Essendon edge was created by the media and simpletons lap it up and pay on it when they can

nothing to do with Essendon creating a gimmick

Well said

I'd play Parish predominantly forward, Martin and Durham in the middle and persevere with Hind back until you have a better replacement

Strange take. He’s a selfless backman at Carlton. So possibly more about Carlton v Essendon culture, rather than the individual.
Essendon would love his run and bounce drive and skills right now. Was a Bad loss.
For many supporters it seems easier to rubbish past players rather than actually analyse what they lost and why they lost them.

Adam Saad has been a consummate professional for the blues. Never misses a game. Plenty of times he's sacrificed his attacking game for the betterment of the team.

I would be livid if we let a key player like him go just as I was many years ago when Hammill went to the Saints. Maybe the Bombers, just like their supporters find it easier to throw out the "wouldn't defend" or "money hungry" excuses rather than provide an environment where the likes of Saad are happy to play and flourish.

Absolutely wrong. In a midweek press conference, BS came out with this.

Brad Scott (19/3) : "We've been very explicit that we want The Essendon Edge. I think Essendon people, all people who've followed our club for a long period of time know what an Essendon Edge looks like. And we want that ... We’ll continue to find the line and to what The Essendon Edge looks like.”

That, my friend, right down to the repetition and the alliteration and announcing it midweek, is the definition of creating a gimmick.

No amount of revisionism or blame-shifting is going to remove that stupid albatross from around your club's neck for as long as he is coach.

It took Kingsley half a season to fix the way our players played under Cameron. Brad probably needs to be more aggressive. I don't think the list is in that bad of shape, their is young mids and talls that should develop into good players if taught properly from the beginning. It's not all about top 10 picks. Swans are prime examples with Gulden and Warner that you can get genuine stars in the second round.

The development at Essendon has been horrendous for a decade. Our VFL program is an absolute shambles. Box Hill / Hawthorn have it down pat. Casey / Melbourne have it down pat even a club like Richmond who are stand alone (AFL side) have a better idea.

Someone can correct me but I thought the Essendon District Football League was one of the better metro comps in Melbourne. The fact we cant be competitive form that pool let alone building from surrounding teams is an indictment on Essendon as a whole.
EDFL has gone through a bit of a clean out the previous two years, also building better relations with clubs and have put a real focus on earlier talent ID.
Rookie me has a bigger presence and piece of the pie for offering training camps and training/running programs (at a cost) and the Daniher Academy is getting players of a higher standard.
U/16 Rep footy is only a lightning cup sorta setup with two games only so they’ve had too few making big decisions about not much information on young players. So they’ve been trying to get em infront of recruiters and coaches more often.
Don’t forget the Covid lockdowns affected Vic kids more than anywhere else in the country, no games for a season and a half at least.
Probably take another 5 years to see the benefits out the other side of it. The pathway I mean.

Ludicrous assertion by the OP.

- Anyone who has followed football for a decent length of time knows Adrian is the draft and trade whisperer.

- Anyone who regularly reads the Herald Sun knows Essendon has the most talented young list.

- Everyone knows Sheeds is the shrewdest administrator, without peer.

This is just a minor setback, top 4 guarateed for mine.

Our list is terrible. Quite a few have to go.

What's wrong with wanting that?

Sheedy and Dodoro are the original great duo.
Koch and Ken merely follow in their footsteps.

That’s cool. He is one of the best small defenders in the game and he is helping us win plenty of games of footy. He would be a top 5 player at Essendon and you handed him away for Zach Reid because he didn’t buy into the EDGE. That’s gotta hurt.
