You been drinking?

We panicked in the last 5 minutes, just like we did in specific finals against Collingwood and Geelong.

But if you want to believe I'm talking about evey close loss, just keep drinking. It'll make it easier for everyone.

After witnessing what we did today at the 'G",

I'm tippin' a fair few of us have been drinking.

Didn't appreciate those second, third and fourth efforts on the wing and basically blanketing Carlisle? Thought he put in a good shift.

At the very least he tried. Can't say the same for alot of other players.

To be honest I doubt there was even one who didn't try. That doesn't mean they played well.

I wouldn't have known McEvoy was out there if I didn't see him standing in their goal square.

Two-handed tap is not a throw. That wasn't anywhere near a throw.

You've said this several times now and you're wrong.

I think he took possession if only for a second but I'll take your word for it - you obviously see better than me and I promise not to say it again

I know stats aren't the be all and end all but he had 1 kick, 7 handballs and 2 tackles
No marks or goals

Carlisle still managed to take 8 marks while being blanketed

Stats don't look good but I thought he made some good spoils and was in the right area alot. Won some important 50-50's and was able to knock the ball to advantage. Not sure when he moved back but I thought his defensive work in the second half was really important. Gave Lake and Stratts the help they needed.

Anyone throwing the toys out of the cot needs to look at the bigger picture, rather than just this game in isolation.

Last year's game against Essendon was identical to yesterday's game, the only difference being the venue and the fact that this time the game went Essendon's way, where as last year the game went our way.

Last season turned out alright for us if I recall.

Essendon's season on the other hand....

Begs the question, was that the finest loss of all time? I don't recall any game where victory and defeat was separated so finely. Notwithstanding after the siren kicks of course which I think belong to a separate category as once the final siren has sounded time becomes inconsequential.
One of the losses to Geelong when it didn't matter was similar (I think 2010 or 2011) I think Osborne snapped a goal just after the siren.

Clarkson's arrogance at the selection table contributed largely to the loss effectively resting Gibson and Mitchell was a body blow.
Yet if we had won then of course it would have been a master stroke to rest our stars through a long tough season.

Ever thought that they both had injuries?

Its a sure thing they will be playing next week... you don't rest players at 1-0.
Again you are assuming they are not injured.

You also don't play injured players.

Glad you have assured me they both will play next week " Clarko has said he hopes they will be" but your assurance has clinched it for me.

Wandered past the Herald Sun this morning at coffee shop. Apparently James Hird specifically coached his team for that scenario! I have to admit, he's a footballing genius. Or maybe it's the influence of Kevin Sheedy back at the club. Sad for Hawthorn we can't get a coach that clever.

HI all first time posting so please be nice

Essendon turned up to play and we didn't . They are a more then decent outfit and while they have faded poorly deep into seasons they have generally been in the top 5-6 by mid even to late season. So they aren't mugs .They are riding a wave a emotion currently and clear treated this as a GF , we treated it as a walk in the park.
Kudos to them they deserved to win

It showed how much we can miss Mitchell , his ability to turn a 50/50 into a win for us cannot be underestimated. Throw in not having Gibson's cool head down back and a few other little things and we left the door open for them.

Its round 2 so no need to overact. I'm more interested to see how we respond . I've watched the Dogs the last few weeks and there attack on the ball and the man is currently first rate . Its the exact match we need rather then an 'easy kill'. Teams will be hunting us more then ever early so need to be on our game more the we were today

The biggest danger all week was that we would tumble into the hype. A. That we were unbeatable no matter who we send out there and B. The garbage about them simply being unable to run a game out. Unfortunately the group (the coaching staff) who were meant to prevent this occurring actually made sure it did. Smacked of arrogance thinking we could throw in a couple of debutants, cruise to 4 points and head home. With Shiels already out, we lose Mitch and decide to replace one of the great mids of the modern era with a debutant tall half forward. Had me stuffed and worried when I heard it pre match. Dont we have a mid who could have come in? Where's the depth we all hang our hats on? Sydney and Freo already banking big away wins. We'll rue this day should we have to play an interstate final. To top it off we have to hear how the bombers are the heroes to a generation who've overcome so much adversity and and are an example to us all. Thanks boys.
