I don't like your signature. What's that all about?...and you want us to be polite and talk footy with you...am I missing something?

Yesterday was the highlight of all Essendon supporters season. Let them have their moment.

The Hawks have bigger things to worry about.

I cant help what the Bombers mods do. I have been made welcome to discuss the game.

Doesnt seem that way.
change you sig, your avatar and your team, and we'll welcome you with open arms.

i cannot do that sorry sir.

I appreciate that you guys do not want us Essendon guys in here, even though i thought i was being quite civil.

I will leave you alone to discuss the loss amongst yourselves.

Hopefully we can meet again in the finals and put on a good show.

Couple of observations:

1. I think we put too much into the Geelong game. We wanted to make a big statement (and did!) to sit Geelong on their arses once and for all. Every player played at maximum level.

2. It had an effect: we were so flat in this game, it looked like all the emotion had been taken out of our players, and they were doing things from memory. In the first half, it looked like the players minds were elsewhere

3. The fightback was great and, on another day, we would have closed it out late with another couple of goals. It didn't happen, but to get back into the game while running on empty was some effort.

4. And Cyril is back!

Wandered past the Herald Sun this morning at coffee shop. Apparently James Hird specifically coached his team for that scenario! I have to admit, he's a footballing genius. Or maybe it's the influence of Kevin Sheedy back at the club. Sad for Hawthorn we can't get a coach that clever.
If you're a person who takes what they read in the Herald-Sun seriously you probably do need to be told what to think.

I thought I saw it posted a couple of pages back, but I can't find it any more. Someone asked what our record was the week after playing Geelong.

Yesterday's loss is Hawthorn's first loss in a game played the week after playing Geelong since 2010.

Code:
Year Wins Losses
------------------
2015 0 1
2014 3 0
2013 3 0
2012 2 0
2011 3 0
2010 1 1
2009 0 2

Interestingly Geelon's record over the same period the week after playing us is far worse.

You were getting spanked, Essendon dropped off allowing you to get back in at all.

Most of Essendons players having no preseason match fitness had alot to do with it.

Sulk if you want, you were beaten by a better side. You dont have to throw low blows out of frustration though.

Actually if you had any idea you would know it was The Hawks who dropped off in the first half and then decided to play some normal football exposing the real Essendrugs.

But what would you know with your tagline of 'not guilty'. Actually Essendon were found guilty by the AFL hence the ban to the most arrogant man ever born "and that includes Hitler" and a massive $2million dollar fine.

And then your subsequent rant about an unsubstantiated allegation of vilification to Mitch Clark that has been vehemently denied and you come onto our board and post your nonsensical ramblings.

Go shoot up and take your drug induced ramblings elsewhere tool.

Any loss by one straight kick and/or 2 seconds does not indicate that one team was dominant and the other well beaten.

The only mental issue here is that Essendon were on a mission and played with all the emotion they could gather resulting in a desperation that Hawthorn could not match at this stage of the season. However, I don't really believe that mental attitudes decided this game.

One of our strengths over the last couple of years has been our rucking combination.

The loss of Frawley in the first 15 minutes created a snowballing effect that disrupted three key elements of Hawthorn's structure. The ruck and the defensive set up and Roughead's usual role. Lake and Stratten were given an impossible situation where they had to control all of the tall Essendon forwards. It is a credit to both that they did an admirable job and Lake was probably Hawthorns best player. Stratten, who played well, is not tall enough to play on genuine KPFs. So, the backline was now hopelessly undermanned.

To counter the Essendon talls Clarkson was put in the position of having to play a ruck down back. McEvoy was Clarkson's choice. This broke up what has been a very successful combination which has given Hawthorn ruck domination, around the ground marking power and a tall marking option up forward. McEvoy was literally taken out of the game and Ceglar, who is a very inexperienced ruck, does not, at this stage, have the experience or ability to be the sole dominant ruck.

To give Ceglar support Clarkson was forced to put Roughead into the ruck. Thus Roughead's previous key role of a combination of key forward and a big body ruck/rover was now sacrificed.

The loss of Frawley cannot be over stated as a contribution to the defeat.

The last three minute fade out.

To come from over 30 points down and gain a lead of 16 points requires a huge physical effort. At this stage of the season no club is fit enough to maintain that physical effort. The team making the comeback eventually will hit a wall and that is what happened in this game. They simply ran out of puff. Essendon were able to regain the initiative and the rest is history. Of course I acknowledge that Sydney were able to do this last week. The Essendon players had not really played a game of football for six months and as shown this week Sydney are in red hot form. Before running out of puff Essendon showed what they are capable of. Do not underestimate this Essendon team.

Do not underestimate the inexperience of a vital chunk of our midfield. Keep in mind that Langford is still very inexperienced. So two of our best mid fielders out with one being a late withdrawal and two of our best backs out with one being a late withdrawal and the other going down in the first few minutes. A hell of a lot to cover.

The selected replacements of Mitchell and Gibson are puzzling. What it highlighted is that we still lack depth when it matters. This is not restricted to only us but applies to all clubs. What options did Clarkson have in replacing Gibson? Spangher may have been medically fit to play but his conditioning would be very questionable. Schoey has not been a success down back. Playing Sicily seemed to be an unnecessarily luxury. In hindsight there may have been better choices as Mitchell's replacement.

The game still had one big positive. Our 'oldies' are not over the hill. Lake was probably our best, Burgoyne can still do what he always does and Hodge played well for most of the game. Also, Hawthorn may have the recruit of the year in Rioli.
I agree the replacements were strange.

The arrogance levels here are fine.

We played like crap yesterday, but still nearly pinched it.

As for the cheating comments, well they're going to continue for a very long time, so if you don't like them I'd suggest that you either learn to live with them(Hawthorn board won't be the only place you read them), or return to the sanctuary of the Essendon board.
have to agree if you want to venture on to opposition boards as an EFC supporter you're going to need a thick skin for a while. That's fine, that's what team boards are for innit, no point being a sook about it

Could get very ugly in a fortnight's time at Adelaide oval
We dish that crap up against a poor side and lost, imagine we dish the same crap up against a good side!

The next 3 weeks are so important to our season:

:How we respond v Dogs
:Can we match Port?
:Our new nemesis in the Kangaroo's

Interesting times ahead!

We will beat the Bulldogs easily.
Port are 0-2 and look to be reeling under the pressure of expectation.
The Kangaroos are Jekyll and Hyde. If they show up I still expect to win. If they dont, it will be ugly.

4-1 with GWS and Melbourne to follow.

Agreed we dont need to lose to them to call them for what they are.
Yes the Essendon supporters believe that as there was insufficient evidence to ban their players and Hird is still coaching the club that this should all be forgotten and we go back to normal as though nothing has happened. I am not writing this because we were beaten but as far as I'm concerned there was overwhelming evidence that they were guilty. This is probably not the right thread to write this but if Essendon supporters come on our board they need to be reminded that their club cheated and this will not go away, not ever.

june 27th is the meeting. I hope the bumbers continue to play without drugs as you seem to play way better. keep it up

The loss of Frawley cannot be over stated as a contribution to the defeat.

You do realise that we have just won back to back flags without Frawley in the team yeah?

We lost for 3 reasons:
1. Essendon applied a lot of pressure to us from the opening bounce and instead of trying to match it we tried to absorb it and ride the match out. When we did respond with pressure of our own in the 3rd qtr we owned them.
2. We got complacent at the end when we were 16pts up and looked like the game was won. Credit to Essendon they surged again and we ran out of time to respond.
3. Luck and umpiring played a small role. The fact remains Bruest was running into an open goal when the siren sounded. Had the umpire saved a few seconds at various stoppages during the game we would all be having a chuckle right now how we crushed Essendon's dreams.

The good news is that this is not a personnel problem. It's about learning when to try to contain team and when to shift into a higher gear and match their intensity. Had that have been Sydney or Freo (or Geelong as we saw last week) we would never have been as flat footed as we were. In this sense I think we disrespected the opposition but I highly doubt we will make that same mistake again next time we meet.

I guess we really wanted to win that Geelong game though.

Three seconds lost from clock after centre bounce recall in Hawthorn’s two-point loss to Essendon

ESSENDON was literally saved by the bell in its two-point win over Essendon on Sunday, when the siren sounded as Luke Breust ran into an open goal.

However, the result could have been different had the Hawthorn speedster been afforded an extra second to drop the ball onto his boot and kick the goal.

Inspection of the final quarter has revealed three seconds went missing from the broadcast clock midway through the final term.

When field umpire Dean Margetts bounced the ball to resume play after Breust put the Hawks one goal in front during the final term, there was 14 minutes and 15 seconds on the clock.

But when Margetts was forced to recall the ball after it sailed out of the centre circle, the clocked kept ticking and three seconds disappeared.

This time was not recovered through the remainder of the game, however it was at no fault of the umpires or the timekeepers.

Under rule 10.5.2, in bouncing the ball Margetts recommenced the clock and under rule 10.5.3 he stopped the clock by blowing his whistle and raising his arm in the air.

Under rule 11.3.6 the field umpire has the ability to recall the bounce and throw it up if in his opinion the ruckman could not fairly contest for the ball, but there’s no account for time lost during this process.

Rule 10.5.1 stipulates when timekeepers can stop the clock and there appears no provision for this scenario.

There’s no doubt the luck of the bounce was with Essendon.

Apologies if this has been covered, but did anyone see what happened to Hill towards the end?

All I saw was him getting tackled front on and then he stayed down for a while without moving.

Can't help wondering if the set play hird didn't want to discuss but did anyway. The one where a defender leaves his man and runs upfield also involved polaxinng one of our players so the numbers are even ?

Dirty rotten bombers
