We don't need to worry about keeping the game too open against Adelaide, the worry is getting through Adelaide's defensive press which was outstanding today.
Everything Adelaide did was outstanding just like everything Port Adelaide did was horrendous. Wouldn't use that game to learn anything especially as we are playing them under a roof at Etihad.

TBC will need to stand up massively for us this week to have any chance. Sauce is playing very good footy and is a barometer for the Crows. If he can nullify/break even with him, that would be a start. Certainly needs to lift from his performances in the past 2 weeks.

We also need to work on their half-back rebound, as strong as their forward line is, their half-backs are where they launch from - Smith, Laird, Lever even Brown. A bad week to lose Raz. Big game for Walla, Corgi and Raz's replacement (maybe Howlett as defensive forward).

Definitely need a run with on Sloane, although would prefer an all out stopper on him with someone like Bird.

A real test for us but we really have nothing to lose so we can probably throw caution to the wind a little, but we wouldn't want to risk blowing away too much in the way of percentage if we're getting pantsed.

Hopefully we can start well and have a good (and accurate) first quarter.

Essendon by 60.

Identical situation to the St. Kilda game. Adelaide have the worst lows of the top four teams. Every loss (and the draw, there were miles down) was by big margins. They slaughtered Richmond by 80, then the next week lost to North by 10 goals. Saints smashed Richmond, then lost to us by 12 goals. It's all set for us to win this game and play finals.

I thought this against the dogs and it blew up in my face.

With Kelly coming back in, could Ambrose do a hard tag on Sloane?

Did you watch Ambrose play last week? You think hes going from that to tagging SLOANE for a game? No respect brother.

If you want to hard tag I think Craig Bird comes in for Howlett to sit on Sloane - not sold he can do the job though.
Otherwise you put Parish on him as a run with to learn from him, Myers also an option.

Ambrose will never play as a tagger. Not sure why this constantly gets mentioned.

Ambrose is going to be our most important defender next weekend and the level of success he has on his opponent will go a long way to us having a good chance to win.

Forward match ups will be interesting v. Adelaide.

Hurley will be filthy on the pant sing he got from Tex first up, imagine he'll go to him again. Presumably Hartley gets Jenkins and Ambrose goes to Lynch. Would send McGrath straight to Eddy from the first bounce. McGovern? I would look at blooding Ridley - he's our most logical match up for McGovern.

Don't like Hartley on Jenkins that much - hope Wooshee is open to swinging Hooker back if it's not working.

Francis would be the logical inclusion to go against McGovern if we wanted the 4th genuine tall but I don't like that for several reasons. I'd give Walker to Ambrose, McGovern to Hurley, Jenkins to Hartley and Lynch to Gleeson.

All will be for nought if the midfield doesn't show up though, they'll all be pushing shit up a hill

You guys need to look past just tagging sloane, its been happening for the last 6 weeks and were unbeaten. You need to stop the influence of the crouch brothers who have been enormous for us as has greenwood, matt crouch second highest disposal getter in the AFL, stop the run off half back from smith and laird, knuckle down on lynch and walker and stop eddie getting away. also can't allow what port did and have intercept markers like lever and talia mopping up.

Playing a tagger or not has been the monkey on the back all year. People think Woosha doesn't tag, and I suppose he doesn't play a hard tag really. We've had run with roles for periods of games though, and we apparently rely on team defence – if everyone pulls their weight and follows their structures we go okay. We got over Geelong with their Selwood/Dangerfield combo without a tagger (this is what the club keeps point at, anyway). Kind of depends how you rate Geelong, I guess.

I wouldn't take much stock of what our posters are saying until we know what happens with Merrett and Watson. We lift against teams when we know it'll be a challenge, so if the selectors (and Lady Luck) give us a chance, expect a good game (at least for a spectator). If Zach gets a week and they come out in the media conference about how Jobe is sore or something, they'll probably bring in the depth players and it'll be ugly around here before it's even begun, I imagine.

That's probably the worst thing. We have this stupid habit of bombing it long and blindly and getting intercepted when we can't pick our way through the defence.

Stop this, stop that, too much focus on what part of the Crows to stop. What we really need to do is put the pressure on early and force Adelaide onto the backfoot and make them worry about stopping our dangerous areas. Stop our tall and small forwards, make Hurley accountable, stop the drive off half back from McKenna and McGrath.

Of course opposition supporters shouldn't look at Adelaide and think only just doing a tag on Sloane and nothing else allows their side to win.
Saint Kilda at Adelaide oval tried that and limited Sloane to 14 disposals and they got smashed by 57 points.
However if Sloane isn't negated we have no chance of winning. He had one of his best games of the season against Essendon earlier in the year.

Hes been playing half-back but i would bring in Redman for Fantasia. Maybe he could shut down some of their rebound and jag a goal or two.

For Merrett (****ing bullshit) id move Goddard into his role and have Hepple go head to head with Sloane. Like he did Selwood.

I don't think Gleeson can play on Lynch.

Heppell needs an enormous game. It's one of the only ways I can see us winning this, the way things are looking. Talia under a cloud could make things interesting in terms of stopping Essendon's potent forward line, but a team's attack is only as good as the mids supplying it.

On a positive note, Tippa's 3 goals took him up to 32 for the year, making it the first time since 2000 that we've had 4 players achieve this in the same season!

At least there should be no complacency heading into this one...

There is one set of rules for Jacobs and one set of rules for the rest. Jacobs can put his hands on your shoulders, rap his arms around your head and never gets called for a free. Then the opposition can do the slightest infringement and instant free to Jacobs. If the umpires are fair in the ruck contests, it will be a great boost to our chances.

2nd and 3rd quarters against Carlton, worst thing was that apart from a handful we looked completely disinterested in winning the game. Guy next to me pointed out Howlett 4-5 times as the only guy along with Tippa that were having a genuine go. And the guy said .. and then we drop Howlett a week later every time he gets a game. Please leave Howlett in!

What's happened to McKennas run. Take the game on! He has gone into his shell. He is running sideways, not forwards. With Fantasia out, we need McKenna to stand up. He is playing the game like he is frightened of making a mistake.

And Colyer.. do the same .. take the game on.

Watson was terrible against Blues. Is he injured or just doesn't give a damn any more... or both. He must be omitted if we are to have any chance.

Want Stanton back in. He is a runner and gets lots of it and has nice disposal. This is just what we need in this game.

Can not believe I'm seeing people wanting Laverde in for our biggest game of the year.

Was so far off the pace it wasn't funny when he was last in.

Let's just remember Collingwood led this mob my 50pts barely a minute after HT last week. They are not even nearly the same side once they cross the boarder & we need to worry about what we do best.

If we start quick, which we generally do, we need to keep the pressure on & for the love of god convert our opportunities when they come. 24.37 last 2 weeks is criminal!!

There's 3 components from them that does require attention:

1. Sloane
2. Laird
3. B Smith

Obviously Sloane requires attention, but the set up the other 2 provide is massive. Leave them unaccounted for & we'll ourselves open for waves of raids.

In saying that, I don't think Adelaide defend against game styles like ours overly well which is why we need to keep a balanced focused on how we want to play.

I'd be going with:

Hartley-Gov
Ambrose-Tex
Hurley-Jenkins
Gleeson-Lynch

Gov is really their only good contested mark so Hartley is the logical match up. I know you don't want Gleeson on Lynch but he's really the logical match up.
