Apparently the team will still be run by Andretti Global, but GM will be more involved and Michael Andretti basically won't be a part of it. Aim is that by 2028 it is a full factory team running their own engineAndretti Cadillac was the proposal. Does that mean Cadillac is a go but Andretti isn't?
I mean that was an extreme of the norm but yeah it happened.I saw a TikTok of Dick J doing that lap where he ends up in the trees at Bathurst. Incredible to think he lived and that was considered the norm
4 extra cars?Looking forward to 4 extra cars on the grid.
24 cars/drivers always felt like the best number for F1.
Hopefully it'll make qualifying a bit more interesting. The added risk of congestion on track will force many to just stop playing games and get a time on the board.
oh yeah, brain fart on my part thinking Audi when they're just taking over Sauber4 extra cars?
GM/Cadillac will bring the F1 grid up to 11 teams & 22 cars. Where is the other team & 2 extra cars coming from?
There's scope for another team under the terms of the Concorde Agreement, and they had 3 applications when they called for nominations 1-2 years ago. However, the other 2 bids weren't even close to being up to scratch. Only the Andretti bid, which has now morphed to GM/Cadillac was good enough to proceed.I'd love 4 extra cars but can't see them extending again.
Weren't Porche sniffing around not long ago? There's scope for another team under the terms of the Concorde Agreement, and they had 3 applications when they called for nominations 1-2 years ago. Liberty Media have completely turned around the finances of F1, with all teams now being worth $1B+ rather than the money drains that they used to be.
I wouldn't be surprised to see other manufacturers looking to join, but they'd want to be well organised if they have any hope of succeeding.
Just putting this out there... maybe a Chinese manufacturer backed team (e.g. Geely) might be a future option, maybe in a few years time.
They will probably buy an existing license, similar to Audi. Alpine or (less likely) Haas would be my guess. Unlikely to bring a completely new team to the grid.Weren't Porche sniffing around not long ago?
Counter to my previous statement, I don't think that's going to happen. Both Audi & Porsche are owned by the Volkswagen Group. I suspect the Porsche interest was superseded by the decision to back Audi's takeover of Sauber.Weren't Porche sniffing around not long ago?
Hitech, thats the one.The other teams which applied to join F1 in 2026 were Hitech, Rodin Carlin, LKY SUNZ, and Formula Equal.
Hitech and Rodin Carlin were looking to step up from F2, F3 & F4. Interestingly, Rodin Carlin were looking to manufacture their cars in NZ, and employing a female driver (Jamie Chadwick).
The bids by LKY SUNZ and Formula Equal pretty much collapsed before they even got to the start line.

Theyre looking to get into WEC with their Genesis brand.I think Hyundai would be an interesting one to watch, haven't ventured in to this arena just yet
Hyundai have been heavily involved in WRC for many years now. Last weekend they won the World Drivers Championship (Thierry Neuville), but lost the Constructors Championship to Toyota when Ott Tanak slid off the road in Japan.I think Hyundai would be an interesting one to watch, haven't ventured in to this arena just yet
I don't think teams are allowed to have Customer Chassis. That's the whole point of being a manufacturer.I'd love to see the return of "privateer" teams back in F1. Even just a 1 car "customer" of the primary teams.
Factory Teams: Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Alpine/Audi?
Team Chassis with Customer Engines: McLaren, Haas, VCARB, Aston Martn, Williams, Alpine/Audi?
Customer Teams - Customer Chassis and Engine: Prema, Rodin, HiTech, Trident, ART, Invicta, etc
The top teams (Mercedes) develop a 'base' car for the season, which (along with spares as required) is entered and run under the relevant F2 team (eg Prema). Prema's top employees get exposure to F1, the best drivers outside f1 get more opportunity to show their potential, etc.
No "reserve" drivers for the top teams need to sit around not racing all year - Jack Doohan could be driving for Invicta in a rebadged Alpine, Mick Schumacher in the Prema-Mercedes, etc.
Correct.I don't think teams are allowed to have Customer Chassis. That's the whole point of being a manufacturer.
Wanted to buy redbull. Horner and marko talked the owners out of itWeren't Porche sniffing around not long ago?
