I have no interest in watching old Des. But I think you can only use the fired up routine once or twice a season. Otherwise it doesn’t work and it’s more like…

Rugby League teams on the Gold Coast have been an absolute disaster. Chargers, Titans, Seagulls, Giants, Gladiators.
Thought they looked alright in 2020 and only just lost by a point in that Elimination Final if my memory is correct (not an NRL fan btw) but then it just all collapsed again for them and you just gotta feel sorry for their supporters really.

Would be interesting what the NRL think about them cause they can’t get rid of them otherwise the Suns would have too much of an advantage up there, even though the Suns haven’t been on fire since their inception.

On a serious note, this sort of coaching doesn’t work in the modern age anymore and Outf prefer Fages continue preaching his message effectively, wouldn’t be surprised if Hasler gets sacked without success up on the Goldie.

Reminds me of Eade 2.0 when he was coaching the Suns honestly.
Yep. This ain't it. Fact of the matter is, doesn't matter what the sport is, the best (and probably the only) way to really know what works is to get out there and actually confront an opponent.

How would Hasler know "where we were in January"? How would he know at that time what would and what wouldn't work? Really?

I remember I had a volleyball coach when I was in grade 7 and 8... He was a nice enough guy, but he used to get so frustrated when he'd show me how to do something, then I'd go and do it the old (wrong) way. I was frustrated too! I knew what I was supposed to do but I went back and did it the old way. Muscle memory and whatnot. Under pressure it's what we all revert to, and the best way to overcome it is relentless repetition, in that pressurised environment.

That's what makes a guy like Steve Smith so remarkable, that in between two innings of the same test match, he was able to almost completely revamp his technique, come out and play an innings of significance (at the Gabba this summer). This stuff ain't easy, and Des really should realise this.

This is parody surely.

Never even worked much back in my day except if someone who rarely gave a spray opened up and went off you tended to listen.

You can give the players a spray without the language , there are ways of doing it.
Agree. I only remember getting one spray from our coach growing up and it was because we had been sucked into fighting rather than playing footy and we’re behind for the first time in a long time. It shocked us and we came out at half time and wiped the floor with us. If the only way you can coach is to be constantly giving a spray then they’ll never work and it becomes white noise.

Last time I was sitting in the changerooms at half time while the coach gave us a spray, it was from a coach who did it often, it was completely useless. It didn’t demand respect or adherence.

I don’t think it is a generational thing. I don’t think overall players cope with getting a spray worse than they used to, just we maybe acknowledge getting shouted at constantly is shit for your confidence and doesn’t do much good.

A spray like that says more about the coach than the players.

But there's always a place for tough love in a competitive team sport where required.

On Facebook they're saying the audio is taken from some ammos Aussie Rules coach, it's not Hasler.

I can't believe it would be Hasler at that level of sport.

Just can't see it happening.
I can't 100% guarantee that that audio is correct, but I can 100% guarantee that Hasler ripped into his players after the game v Redcliffe in an all-time manner, so it wouldn't surprise at all. He is known in RL circles to absolutely lose it at times.

RL coaches in general are absolute crybabies compared to their AFL couterparts. Not all, but enough. Mind you, some might suggest their performances would drive the calmest coach to abdominal ulceration.
