THE FINISHED PEOPLE is on SBS tonight.

What it lacks in technical polish, it more than makes up for in heart and honesty.

Something rare in any film - not just an Aussie film - these days.

Haven't even heard of it, and saw this too late to give it a go ... I presume. Will have to look it up.

Re Blackrock and Crackers - both quality flicks!

Anybody remember a film called "Bullamakanka"? I have vague memories of seeing it when I was a kid, some time back in the '80s. I honestly couldn't even tell you who was in it.

"Bullamakanka ... I just wanna thank ya"

Yep, I have a dubbed version on tape somewhere in storage. Again, I can't remember the cast either, though Rose Tattoo were in it!

Much ado about a car in a tree, from memory.

Year of the Dogs
Romper Stomper (first half anyway until it tried the political message crap)
Yep there's another two I forgot about that I like.

Do old Pat & Jen still follow the Dogs I wonder?
The old lady (Pat) kinda reminded me of my gran in some ways following the footy - although she never went to training - but equally hardcore.
Very enlightening look into the backroom of how an AFL club operates.

Crackerjack, The Castle, Take Away, Wog Boy, Bad Eggs, Chooper and The Nugget

With the exception of The Castle and Chopper, you have listed some of the worst movies ever made. In fact, I think The Nugget may well be the worst.

Very certain I can top Nugget for worst (though yes it is extremely bad).

Try Murrabinna. For aussie movies, that one is number last.

Others that defeat Nugget include Coda and Kadaicha.

Here is my list of aussie/kiwi movies I rate lower than 4/10. Yes, that is Shine that you see there.

Coda (TV) (Penny Cook)
Bloodlust (oh deary me)
Place at the Coast, The (only one good moment : "some of this foods gonna have to go")
Exchange Lifeguards (dare to disagree)
Dust Off the Wings (upshot = crap)
Double Deal (just a bad old film)
Murrabinna (even the tyro status of the Tropfest winners cannot save them)
Pacific Banana (it is arguable that there are no redeeming features, but, crap!)
Early Frost (we've made a few like this over the years)
Slim Dusty Movie, The (Russell Coight is channelling this movie! Not knockin' the man though)
Dreaming, The (An aboriginal Coda, still with Penny Cook)
Kadaicha (even removing Penny Cook diesn't save this duplicit script)
Bloodmoon (better than Bloodlust ... and that's saying ... very little)
Holidays on the River Yarra (just poor)
Return Home (can't remember it, but hated it at the time)
Dead to the World (karma my arse, Ghandi MCIntyre, cartin' Jugger belongin' around is your karma for THIS garbage)
Maslin Beach (okay, definitely open to argument *giggle* ... but a horribly bad film technically)
Talk (there were a few of these in this period)
Sex Is a Four Letter Word (and they were all crap)
Strange Planet (every last one of them)
Shine (i just cannot see any point to the movie ... i know i'm in the minority)
On the Beach (TV) (if you've seen it and like it, watch the version on Optus tonight to see how wrong you are)

There, another tirade out of the way ! :)

Bad boy bubby
Gallipoli
Proof
Death in Brunswick
Sunday too far away
The Piano (well it won an AFI)
Bliss
The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith
Shine
Chopper
The odd angry shot (Best Gra Gra film)

Has anyone mentioned Mullet? Fine Australian film with alround good performances. Most watchable Oz film I've seen in a while.

If not;

Mullet

Years ago I saw a weird Australian film called Smoke 'em If You've Got 'em made in Melbourne about the nuclear holocaust. Anyone else heard of it?

Oh! I just remembered I saw The Proposition the other day. It will dominate future discussion of great Australian films.

What's wrong with that? I thought it was a good movie. Maybe it was because I was living overseas at the time and gave me a taste of home. I can't even really remember the movie now. It was about four years ago I saw it.
