With a game against the Pies this weekend we are finally getting some exposure for the club. Although I'm not expecting much I am hoping a couple of our younger players stand up announce themselves on the big stage. So with this weekend in mind I was thinking of my favourite memory against the Pies.

While I loved Kolynuik's goal to snatch the win, I can't go past the 2006 final where we blew them away with pace and skill. We were the most exciting team in the comp and to perform like that in front of a huge crowd gave me goosebumps. Montgomery getting up off the canvas, Cooney running through fifty and slotting a sausage. I just remember seeing so many Pies players not being able to keep up.

What are everyone else's favourite memories?

I think it was 2009 when the top four wasn't settled until round 22. Dogs played Collingwood needing to win by a certain margin to take third place. Dogs were ensconced in the top four anyway, but it was a satisfying victory just the same.

The 2006 elimination final was an exciting match, but the 2009 game was a pretty comprehensive performance on the eve of finals.

Ah yes, the end of 2009 was a pretty exciting time.

We needed to win by 22 points or more to finish third, and managed to get home by 24 points (from memory).

I probably still prefer the 2006 Elim final though, proved that we were starting to become a serious threat.

Round 10, 1984. Simon Beasley's goal on the siren.
Gubby Allen was a "legend" for kicking the ball across goal and Jimmy Edmond let him know about it.
A great second half fightback, being 29 points down at half time and really struggling. A fantastic finish.

Yep, this for me too, my Dad still rabbits on about this game and how we were there.

A few more:

- Tony Shaw's record breaking game at the Western Oval in 1994. Packed house, sunny day and a good win to us.

- Round 1, 2005, Eade's first game as coach, down at 3 quarter time and ran over the top of them.

The 2006 elimination final sticks out the most to me. We were seen as the underdogs coming in thanks to injuries throughout that year and it didn't look great from the start with Monty getting sniped in the opening seconds of the match. But we controlled that entire game and Monty kicked the most goals that he's ever kicked in a match.

Plus by winning that game, Rohan Smith got his 300th the following week which was unfortunately in a drubbing.

Hard to go past the Steven Kolyniuk moment. Magic moment. I believe it was 1990, first year of Wheeler's coaching stint (year after we almost folded).

Monty kicking 4 goals after being crudely flattened: $100
Belting Collingwood in a knock-out final: $250
Watching the Collingwood faithful storm out in droves at 3/4 time: priceless

Round 8 20/5/1972 We had not beat Collingwood at Victoria Park for decades,
18 year olds we stood under the scaffold of the tv camera's drinking stubbies of Vb and watched the Doggies win Collingwood 7-14 Dogs 11-14.:D

I liked the 2006 final because the pies jumped us a bit at the start and you could just see their fans prematurely swelling with arogance and start going on about what a pumping they were going to give us, which is fair enough because they had the wood on us for several years before that.

And then as reality set in over the next three quarters as we outclassed them and made them look like fools both on and off the ground.

:D

Besides the NAB Cup GF, Rd 21 2000 and 97 QF, this remains my favourite football memory.

We were right next to the Pies Cheer Squad all day, and Jesus I gave it to those pricks as they meekly walked out midway thru the last quarter.

Absolute gold, didn't make it to work on the Monday.

Peter Rohde's first game where we beat a grand final bound collingwood in r22, 2002 (I think).

I can't remember whether collingwood rested players for finals, was only 12 then.

Was that the game a young Gia dominated?

No mate, Nathan Brown kicked 7! I told people the next week, that Collingwood would beat Port in the QF and I was right!

Yeah you're right, it was the year Darcy was Brownlow favourite. Darcy got 3 Murphy 2 and Brown 1.

As much as I hated Judas when he left our club to join his mate Terry at Tiger (Liquor) land. He dominated games in our forward line. He regularly kicked bags or 5-7 goals in games where he was only moderately good for the Tigers kicking 2-3 a game. We would love to have a 98-2004 Nathan Brown now in our current forward line.

We all thought that Higgins would be the new Brown, but he has fallen away due to a lot of factors in the last few years :(

Western Oval, Gubby Alan kicking across goal with 30 secs to go... dogs were 5 points down and Simon the Pieman Beasley Marks and kicks a match winning goal after the siren!

Yes - I was there and it was a fantastic win :thumbsu:

I remember the 2006 final for your midfield really outrunning us but also monstering our young guys.
Boyd etc really physically intimidated Thomas + Pendlebury in that game.

Think it'll be a bit different this week mate, our midfield is now possibly the slowest in the league!
