Fevola a Lion

I think he might be happy to finish off his career in Vic. He has achieved so much with Brisbane and will always be remembered as a lion. I think he might want to experience a big 4 club before he hangs up the boots. All the best.

Using your logic then Browny, Rich etc won't?

The Lions look like the Real Madrids of the AFL and obviously willing to terminate the culture of the club at the expense of loyalty. So today we will become a company and no longer a club. Don't get me wrong, I do rate Fev, but not at the expense of pulling the rug from underneath of our longest serving player who had agreed to a new deal. Nice work Brisbane FC!

Go on Braddy, tell the Blues to go and get stuffed and let's see the club push you out the door. We all have our own views, but I am absolutely disgusted with the club. No I won't be protesting or not renewing my membership for the 24th year but geez I am pissed. I will let the rest of you rejoice with the news and show a great servant the door who almost single handedly won us a game late in the year.

If unloading MacDonald has something to do with salary cap issues (and also the fact that he wants to return home) just how are we going to be able to afford Fev?

Either the salary cap issues rumour were bullshit, Fev will be paid the same as Rischa + Bradshaw put together or the salary cap issues were fitting in Fev

How do you know Bradshaw doesn't want to leave or is perfectly happy to either stay or go?

Personally, I hope the trade eventuates for numerous reasons.

1. Carlton supporters having meltdowns
2. Gives me a reason to mock said Carlton supports
3. If they work well together, it will be amazing to watch them play
4. Being a QLD-er, I consider the Lions somewhat of a 'second team' (not so much supporting them, just usually wishing them the best in games that aren't against us)
5. Carlton supporters having more meltdowns

Voss must have silenced the doubters after the Staker/Raines/Buchannon trades.

ARRGGHHHH!:eek::eek: I can’t tell you how much that photo offends me. I want to trust Vossy, I really do, but seriously what is he thinking??? Bradshaw and Riski for Fevola??!!

Cozi, even I’m shocked at your lack of loyalty.

I’m really hoping that this is just a media beatup that Vossy agreed to play along with in order to screw more dollars out of Collingwood, who end up paying too much for Fevola. If that’s the case, Vossy, love your work! :thumbsu:

But, if we actually are taking Fevola, I guess there are a few positives: Fev can kick goals, he will help us get a premiership; he will lift the profile of AFL in Brissie, we will be sure to get comprehensive reports in the news; Fev will be someone to laugh at or be entertained by (I can’t deny he’s a real character ) and possibly, Lions memberships will soar if all those Carlton fans who come out of the woodwork to watch the Blues games at the Gabba end up paying to reserve their seats so they can see their beloved Brendan play 11/12 games a year in Brissie.

So there is some method to this madness, but it’s still madness. We did pretty well this year without such drastic changes (or by recruiting flogs who are a disgrace to themselves, their families, their Club and to the image of the game ). Grrr, yes, I'm still not happy about possibly recruiting Fevola.

But sigh, I will repeat my mantra IN VOSS WE TRUST, even though he makes it hard sometimes.:(

I kind of hope that Bradshaw wasn't actively shown the door - as he has been a brilliant servant to the club - however this trade does unquestionably benefit and strengthen the Lions team. Counter-acting this is the possible shafting of a brilliant club player. Undecided whether I am in favour of this trade yet; if Bradshaw is willing to go then I guess I'm in favour. Riska is a good honest player but not much more.

Are some of you Lions or Bradshaw supporters? Brisbane become a better team with this trade, will the select few keep whinging if Fevola kicks a bag in a winning grand final for you guys? This 'fabric of the club' stuff is way over the top too, you'll get over it.

The mind boggles sometimes.

Hmm. Keeping that feedback in perspective, I believe you will trade Gary Ablett Jr for Picks 1,5,9 to GC. Fabric of club, loyalty, history, father-son.. pffftt..

Actually, I'm impressed with her loyalty to the club, despite emotional attachments to a particular player.

Players come and go. Love the club.

Cozi :thumbsu:

That said, if we traded Brown I would curl up on the floor and quietly wait for the sweet release of death.

^^^Flawed statement right there - Have Brisbane traded away their best player here? No, supporters of every club would be gutted if their best player were traded away so what does Gary Ablett Jr got to do with this? I'd understand vitriol if Brown or Black were traded from the Lions.

Stop crying you anti Fev Brisbane supporters. Voss made a very good decision. You now have two of the best FF's currently in the game. I can't wait to see Brown and Fev on the same team in action up forward.

Hopefully this deal goes through this is one of the biggest rapings in history.

JB gets double teamed almost every game for the whole game and is a superstar.Fev gets doubleteamed and kicks 90 goals the last few seasons.
Now one of these two guns is going to be playing one on one it is going to be mayhem for backlines next year.Who do you double team if you do JB, Fev rips you to peices same if you try to double team Fev, JB goes nuts.
Rich and Black kicking the ball into these two guys is going to be beautiful to watch.

Fev is a leading FF just like Bradshaw so will be able to work in the forwardline with Brown. This has you going from a club making up the finals numbers while you are rebuilding i would say 5th to 8th you guys would have been in all honesty to big premiership contenders.

As for Bradshaw he will be 31 next year and soft tissue injuries as well as any lingering effects from his knee have/will catch up with him.And as for Risc i thought very highly of him early on in his career but never continued on to become the player who he could/should have and yes i have seen alot of his games. As good a servant as Bradshaw has been to the club there comes a time when you have to put the future of the club first.JB will be able to keep Fev in line and vossy aint no Ratten and won't take any crap either so Fev will keep inline.

This trade in all honesty is more slanted to a teams favour than the Freo giving the Hawks pick one trade for Hodge then getting Croad back lol.I can't believe it but anything that weakens the Blues makes the ferals at Collingwood and Essendon happy and we are as excited about this trade as you are lol.

If Fev had never messed up he would be worth two first round draft picks in a strong draft. The question you have to ask and answer honestly is are either of the players you are giving up even worth a first round draft pick?

Best of luck guys/girls

Selling our soul for a premiership. Don't know if anyone cares, but IMHO I do.
Even without Fevola, we managed to get to bottom half of the 8. With improvements from our younger brigade, we could have pushed for that top 4 in time.

Vossy has done a firesale and going out bigtime for a premiership. But trading off one of our long-serving players still leaves a bad taste. Bradshaw is the last player in our list with links to Brisbane Bears.
Yeah I can hear everyone say there's no sentiments and its all business decisions. But I am not used to Lions dealing this way. Atleast not under Leigh Matthews. We are not known for throwing away players and chase big names, that kind of approach, I just hope it doesn't come back n bite us.
We have Clark, Rich, Leuenberger, Cornelius and a queue of youngsters watching this unfold. We are not setting a great example at the moment. They can turn around and take a business decision too. No point rolling over and crying then.

Under Matthews we had Pick 14 for Travis Johnstone.

All of the deals Voss has struck to date look fine and even though I, like every other Brisbane Lions supporter, have nothing but admiration for Daniel Bradshaw, if he says he is happy to go, then I have no trouble with the Fevola trade either. If Rischitelli is part of that deal, the same applies. That said, if they want to stay, they should be allowed to and all bets would be off.

This represents a shift in my position, because I was originally not in favour of getting Fevola (see NO NO NO post), but I have thought it through and it makes football sense. My objections come from the heart, but my approval for the deal comes from the head.

Either way, I feel your pain and share some of your concerns.

Go Lions.

Could be another little twist to this story.

Ricky Olarenshaw (Rischa's manager) was on SEN this morning. Stated his client was very very happy in brisbane, has a gf up there and is reluctant to return despite massive offers from two big clubs previously.

Apparently Voss spoke to him and said that his contract was not going to be renewed next year anyway, so it's in his best interests to move now.

- Rhan Hooper and Jmac are also on the table, should Rischa decline (which i'm hoping he will).

Bradshaw is not too far off from that list.

After my original shock/horror reaction, I have come to the same conclusion, and mostly for the same heart v. head reasons.

Now my concerns, if the deal goes ahead, are about how Fev will fit into the team structure after. Hopefully he can do it, especially with Browny there to show him the way.

The thing with Fevola is that he would have to commit to staying off the drink full time and staying out of the media. His contract should have a very water tight clause about personal conduct that would allow us to drop him like a hot potato at a moments notice and without a payout of any description if he is not behaving.

Go Lions

You guys must be feeling pretty while ****ing us carlton supporters up the arse, i hope brown and fevola do their knees in the first game, **** you cfc and bfc, i will not be watching afl football any longer or writing on this stupid ****ing web site.

I agree with the sentiment that regardless of the deal you dont cast off a very good and loyal player. I hope Vossy told Bradshaw something like this:

"Look Carlton said they want you and I thought I'd give you the choice. If you want to go back to Melbourne for your last years, here's that opportunity but if you want to stay I'd be rapt."

If not then I think Voss is setting a very bad example by under-valuing loyalty. Yes, I'd love to win a premiership but not if we have to betray a faithful servant. Neither will that be a good example for the rest of the group. If Bradshaw can be traded is Black or Power next? Is there really a playing group where you play for each other or is everyone only out for themselves?

P.S. Fevola cannot play the backline like Bradshaw can and I think his effort was the difference in a couple of our wins this year.
