Re: Pies intraclub player report.

Thanks Chip, although if we were to have an "exiting youngster" I'd rather it was Toovey.

Very promising report, particularly about Rusty and Rounds. :thumbsu:

Oh, and yes, Francis was in red.

Re: Practise Match 30/1/09

The thing about Mick retiring at year's end because of this plan to have the assistants coach thru the NAB Cup is interesting, made all the more interesting considering Bucks was hanging around the coaches a fair bit today. He was in casual clothes, but he might as well have donned official CFC gear really.

Now.

Reid is now a backman. Anthony is now a forward. Now both have the ability to play at both ends, but those positions is where Mick and Co. want these two to succeed.

Dawes looks more imposing than last year. This whole 'crash the pack' facet of the game that he has that we've been waiting for, this is the year. He's bigger, fitter, and will really apply pressure on Rocca to keep his spot (you can't play both surely). Kicked straight too. Cloke and Dawes together for most of the year looks appetising after this morning I tell ya.

J-Mac looks all the better for being blooded early. He's in our best 22, and by year's end will be one of our better midfielders. Plenty of toe, must've had a top pre-season coz the fitness is there, and unlike some of the guys there, or some just gone, he hits targets.

Beamsy's there. Wet behind the years, sure, but its just a matter of getting game time into him before he cuts it week in week out as one of our premier mids. Steele's not far behind, but Beamsy's got it at the moment.

Bennell's got a future if coached well. Like the look of him a lot.

Blair is such a natural footballer. I hope his size become's a non-issue because he'll make it big time if he does.

Trav, Pendles, Daisy, Swan all played well. Presti looks fit, and in good nick, him and Browny together are going to be good enough - we hope. Josh looks motivated and in good form, plus Wood looked good too. Others that looked good where MacAffer (great hands), Harry, O'Bree and Corrie (composed with skills).

Two final points, the two most important of the day for mine:

Johno's not done. Today was the first time in a while where I've watched him play footy and look somewhere near his best. And him at his best is a valuable commodity. I don't know where he stands with the coaching staff, but I presume, because of the pre-season so far, that he's in our best 22 probably, and that he is certainly far from done. His skills were good, his dash was back, and he ran hard. Can only be a good thing.

And lastly, whilst Maxy's our captain, Heater's our leader. You ask most that were down there today, and whilst Maxy did a bit of talking, no-one spoke, check that, 'yelled', more than Heater. He was screaming out instructions to his side (the black and whites, same side as Maxy strangely enough), he gave one-on-one's to players, he just led.

Put it this way. If I had to guess who would have been the captain of the black and white side today, I'd go Heater easily. Not a downer on Maxy, and as captain I'm backing him, but there's no doubt that when it comes to on-field leadership, its Heater by a street, going by today's performance. I shall keep a close check on this in the coming weeks.

By mucking up last year, Heater might have lost the captaincy role he had as good as sewn up.

Any q's on today, feel free to ask.

Re: Practise Match 30/1/09

Brown looks even bigger?

I actually think there is such a thing as too big....he'll lose speed and mobility if he gets too big.

Re: Practise Match 30/1/09

While heater was yelling out instructions, was he also finger pinring and carrying on like a toss like he ddi at times last year?

He can be a leader but if he still does that its a while away yet

Re: Practise Match 30/1/09

I thought Heater's vocal contribution this morning was almost exclusively rid of the "like a toss" stuff. Reminding his team to zone, yelling out if someone' was open, or if someone needed to be manned up.

And he did no more "finger pointing" than at least a dozen of his teammates. And that's not saying the side's full of "tossers" but it may be that Heater's rung that in a bit. Kinda like he got a wake up call last year or something...

I dunno, I just hope today wasn't just an extraordinary case, cause with no Buckley or Burns, and when we're down in a game, we're going to need to find on-field leadership more than ever. I hope Heater can help out in that department, and going by today's example alone, he most certainly will.

Re: Pies intraclub player report.

Thanks Chip, a real "report it as it is effort". Great condensed analysis of each player's game! It looks like shaping up to be a promising season but most of all I like your comment as an impression of not remembering a time we had so much talent ! :thumbsu:

Re: DTM Intra-Club Match Photo's and Report

^i did find it funny that the only pic is a picture of dave :p

how much hype has this interclub game generated?? seems like everyone went down and theres like 10 individual threads on it, lol.

anyways all the positivity and optimism is fantastic. thanks everyone

Hey Dave, any chance of getting a youtube video of the bigpond video of the game?

Re: Pies intraclub player report.

No, he was a boundary umpire, Thoolan did the other side of the ground.
Lol really? what a strange position for the two of them. Di they do he stupid boundary umpire dance when running back to the centre lol

Re: Pies intraclub player report.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing about Rounds as well. Absolute tank. I can't remember if I put it in my training report, but if I left it out it was because I felt stupid saying Rounds was huge when he was tiny only 6 weeks ago.

He is still very quick, and he goes often to his wrong side, which I love in a player. No more Rhyce Shaw's kicking checksides on the run when you have a left foot. I like him as a Wojincski type running back pocket / half back until he commands a midfield spot. Very excited about him.

Re: Pies intraclub player report.

i know its not a lot of info, but a few things im excited about

josh and johnno gettin back to them old selves by the sounds of it , thats crucial since our list is so young. I dont mind johnno staying around and keeping kids out if hes performing at his best consistently.

rounds could be interesting, from watchin his draft video and hearing what you just wrote it sounds like hes goin to be a mackie/wojincksi type which is what we really need. Makes us not so reliant on shaw, plus rounds pace seems top notch.

Lastly the obvious beams and steele performing like theyve been at the club longer than 3 months.

Add to that Cheesey in great form and I'm really getting sweaty re: the game at West Coast.

Re: Pies intraclub player report.

was at the game today aswell , bloody hot may i add i dont no how the boys done it, was very impressed with the new boys or 2 of them in particular beams and rusty, beams looks like pendles when he gets the ball just alot of space and time, and rustys foot skills going into the forward line were terrific, only difference i found with them is beams is massive and rusty is still skinny, im getting excited about the year ahead with these boys putting pressure from beneath on the senior players:thumbsu:
