Am intrigued by this.

There are flights that arrive in Newcastle at around 1pm on Saturday. How long does it take, and what would be the best way to get, to the game from Newcastle Airport?

Google maps says two hours by car. Fly in and pick up a rental?

The train takes about an hour and a half and I think it's about $10. You'd have to cab or bus to Newcastle station, then the train takes you straight to Central (Sydney)

Would love to make the trip up, but just have to much on during the day Saturday to make it, will be at Visy Park though and can't wait :)

Thanks for the responses. It's tempting, even if a bit out of the way!

It seems that buses are replacing trains this weekend and therefore the journey will take three hours from Newcastle to Central Station: http://www.131500.com.au/plan-your-..._itdTimeMinute=30&itd_itdTimeAMPM=pm&x=95&y=3

Any suggestions re accommodation near the ground?

Most of the hotels near Olympic park are in the network that I work for, and they are jacking the prices up like crazy. I'd suggest staying in Sydney and catching the train out to the ground- it takes no time at all and you'll save a fortune. For example, one night at the Novotel is normally about $150... This Saturday it will set you back $509.

Cheeky buggers.

Yeah, saw that, ridiculous!

Happy to stay in Sydney but I suspect that I may encounter the same problem, particularly at this late stage?

Do you know of any good places to stay or even websites that compare prices etc.?

All hotels do it-we call it "dynamic rates" :p.
It's why those Tigers who booked their accommodation in advance would have been smart if they'd actually made it to the semi final. The closer it gets to the event the higher the rates are jacked up. That's why it's way cheaper to visit Melbourne in May-August than any other time of the year.

If you let me know your budget I can put the word out to our hotels and see what rates they're offering, if you like?

Checked their website and apparently the hotel is "unavailable" on Saturday night!

No real budget as such, as long as price is reasonable but willing to be a bit flexible - just not going to pay $500 or anything like that! I would be going solo and would only need the basics, don't need anything fancy.

Any other suggestions? Appreciate the help. :thumbsu:

I can get you a room at Mercure Parramatta for $160.

I am really not sure where BG1983 works but she does seem to have a very good knowledge of the ticketing/booking process so was wondering if she maybe able to assist.

If I was to guess where BG1983 works I would think some mega corporate high flyer type role in the finance or sales or banking industry perhaps. :D

Maybe for ANZ Stadium seating/accommodation. :D

You seem to be an expert on ANZ Stadium.

I have never been to ANZ and am not familiar with seating/Carlton bays etc.

Hardly an expert. I've only been there once before myself. As I'm sure you already know, the info is available online.

Just some advice for next time - you might like to re-think the way you word your sentences. Using the word "maybe" can also imply other things as well. Not the first time you have made a snide comment towards my posts

All the info is available online for all to research.

I think you have taken my post out of context and it wasn't a snide remark fyi!

I would love to be going up to Sydney but left it too late. :(

For anyone who hasn't checked their emails yet, I just got an email from ANZ Stadium reminding me that tickets to the game include free public transport to and from.

All tickets to the Swans v Carlton blockbuster at ANZ Stadium include entry and return travel on CityRail services, Sydney Olympic Park Major Event Buses and regular Sydney Buses (STA) services and Sydney Ferries services.

Fans are strongly encouraged to leave the car at home and take advantage of the additional and direct public transport services available for the event.

TRAINS

Blue Mountains Line services to and from the city will stop at Lidcombe between 5pm and 11pm.

After the game, additional services depart Strathfield at 10.07pm 10.37pm and 11.08pm, stopping all stations to the city.
