The thing is it gets a bit tricky when AFL has rules about being allowed to rest players if it doesn't affect your team's position or your opponent's position. It seems unfair in the case where (for example) the 2nd and 3rd placed teams are locked in their positions going into the last round, and 3rd was playing the bottom team, but 2nd was playing a team fighting for the 8- under the conditions we seem to have 3rd would be allowed to rest half the team, but 2nd would not- which would be an advantage going into the 2 vs 3 final the following week. I think there needs to be some sort of blanket rule rather than "case by case".

Agree with this 100%, if those were the rules we'd have the top team resting one year, 3rd the next, then no one, then the next year it might be 2nd and 6th. The AFL can't approve advantages for certain teams based only on the luck of the draw. If its OK for one unfortunately it has to be OK for everybody. Fremantle have done nothing to deserve a rest if we're going case by case, they just happen to play Port.

Don't underestimate the bears - they almost beat Geelong in the final game at skilled a few years back.

And as for Norf.... Richmond will be thinking it's easy - despite the pleas if hardwick. If I was north I would tell the players coming in that if they play well enough they get a game next week in the finals.

Except North don't actually want to win the game. They will make absolutely sure they lose it no matter how poorly Richmond play.

One thing I want to know say the 8 stays how it is now, and we knock off the Doggies at the G, Would we then play a semi final at home against Eagles or Hawks?

If so I think I might like this outcome!

We would play away to the loser of Eagles/Hawks.

If we get through that, we play away to the winner of Freo/Sydney.

If we're a good team, we NEED to defeat the dogs. It's going to be at the MCG, will this favour us? I think so, more room for our press.
We've also got a number of players that have the potential to rip finals apart.
We also play at night I'm fairly sure, I like our chances.

I heard it would be at etihad against the dogs? I'd much prefer the g though. Dogs are lethal at etihad.

Yeah I understand that, i'm just trying to work out if it will be at AO or the G/Pattersons

Play away to the loser of Eagles/Hawks.

Teams 5-6 only get a home game in week one, they will always be the away team after that. Teams 7-8 are always away team for the duration of the finals.

"The MCG is expected to host all Victorian-based finals, with the AFL all but ruling out the prospect of a home final for the Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium."

"The only game that is considered feasible for Etihad would be a potential Western Bulldogs v Adelaide game – the match that would happen based on current ladder positions – but even then this would seem unlikely because the league believes that Crows fans will travel and this match would still draw more than 50,000."
