Missed a huge chance to play of in a grand final today
2nd prize in a Prelim is a bag of shit....anything can happen in a year
players have to understand that chances to play in a GF do not just happen you have to earn them. Close to playing in a grand will mean Jack in a couple of years.

They do understand that mate and hence the way they rejected every so called experts opinions about their chances and but for some bad luck and good play at the right time by the Pies fell short by inches.
You could see the way they played every contest that they understood what was at stake, they were Shattered as we all are but you need to feel Proud of their efforts and they will come out the other side of this a much better group

i can't think about next year actually. if for some reason we have a shit season i'm never going to forget this day and what could have been.

A quick review:
- Pup and Smith are absolute gems. Another pre-season under their belt will do wonders.
- We managed to REACH (and consequently, be robbed) in a prelim without Jarryd Roughead and Stephen Gilham. Also note that this loss was to the reigning premiers, who have lost 2 out of their past 3 something games.
- When adversity sets in, we step up - see Josh Gibson. This man's year has been phenomenal.
- We now have a dependable ruck divison. Hale, Bailey, Roughead and Renouf. With Lowden and Grimley on the way.
- Our midfield still oozes class - Burger, Mitch, Hodge, Shiels, Lewis, Sewell.
- Our youth is encouraging - Smith, Pup, Shiels, Schoenmakers (yeah he made some mistakes, but who hasn't? He can only improve)
That's all I can think of. Oh yeah, we have the best forward in the league.

I applaud the positivity, I really do, but is anyone going to make mention to the fact we pissed away the chance for a premiership tonight.
We could have killed the game with the first 5 inside 50's of the last term, yet our spuds were exploited and we find ourselves with nothing more then a season of memories.
Stop tying to out-do each other by being the most positive and ignorant poster and post what you really think.
I'll go first.
We ****ed up tonight, could have won the game easily, too many errors from too many spuds

6months to reflect on that game. I'm not sure I can have that as my lasting memory of 2011.
Note to self: take a break from Hawthorn mania and big footy during the off season.

What's the trick to being so upbeat about tonight's loss and moving on with such positivism? I feel like I am coming down off a shot of heroin and my next hit isn't for another 6months. I just can't get so enthusiastic so soon after what was a gut wrenchingly painful experience. I think this poison will rot my gut for a good couple of months yet. What scares me is that if you speak to a Bombers supported they'll tell you that they still carry that pit in their stomach from the 99 prelim as do the Doggies from 97 and North from 94. That scares me.

its all about windows of oppurtunity .
we have blooded a heap of young guys this year because of some injuries to key players and below par performances by others .
this will be invaluable to our depth in winning another flag .
in 2008 , we opened a window willy nilly on the spot and it payed off .
that window was slammed shut on us quick smart and reality set in for the next 2 years. well we are now opening that window again and within the next couple of years we should be holding up another cup .
if a team wins 1 or 2 flags every 10 years , they are doing really well because it also means they play finals getting there in most other years . hence memberships stay strong . we won in 2008 and we will have another 1 or 2 before 2018 so im not complaining . sure there will be dissapointment along the way but the big picture tells us we are far better off than alot of other teams and supporters . we should be proud of what our club has achieved and what it looks like achieving .
