The more I think about it the more I would like to see Ah Chee in our forward line as a hardworking defensive forward. I feel we could do with a more 'blue collar' player in that area of the ground.
I agree, but I feel like we Ah Chee him to do exactly the same thing on the wing. I think Linc has had an off year but I’m confident he’ll bounce back and can be that guy.

That would be a horrid decision IMO. Our money is better spent elsewhere. He’s too slow, too error prone, and too undisciplined. The number of times he loses touch with an opponent, arrives a second too late, or falls into the back of them… Is he really going to improve? We can’t be carrying blokes like Lyons, Gardiner, Rich, Zorko in the next couple of years who are too good for the seconds but shouldn’t be in our B22.

Linc McCarthy is another interesting one. He’s in pretty much every team but he needs to pull his finger out to stay there. He was tracking towards elite level early in the year and has completely fallen away. I back him to regain his best form but he should not get an easy pass.

Linc has developed some of the bad Mitch Robbo traits this season. Mad dash and one big leap at the ball carrier, doesn't even manage to grab him in anyway but just flies past him and falls to ground. If only he could stick a few more of those tackle attempts or just stay on his feet so he can impact the next contest - he'd go a long way in addressing pressure in our forward line.

I reckon he is the one Lohmann replaces. His highlights are getting further apart.

Lincs season has been similar to last year and still very good. We're spoilt for small forwards
For some reason we’ve never really given him a go in the middle. Don’t know whether that’s because he’s never had the fitness to go in there or not. But we’ve tried Cam, Zac, Charlie (last year) in there but Linc seems to have been the only true small forward we haven’t really tried for whatever reason.

He has a bit but no the past couple of seasons. Played a good game against GWS in his first or second season for us playing midfield. Doesn't really offer much different though

In the second half of the year McCarthy has popped a few times in the defensive 50 to help out. This is not where he should be but given the defensive frailties our midfield have he is being asked to cover. That could be resulting in him not being positioned as well as he was early in the year and being more gassed when a second or third effort is needed.

It would be interesting to see if his drop off has coincided with the introduction of Matho.

We are nearly there and need elite top ups to get us over the edge.

Grundy, given Collingwood pays 300,000 per year and is fit, is what I would go for.

Big O up forward, Grundy back to All Aust form.

Dan we swop for Grundy. I know the free agent thing but it seem s to me if we get a fit Grundy for Dan (Maybe it costs us 100.000) it's nearly as good as Geelong clearing That overrated on baller (Kelly) for draft thingos and using them to get Cameron the next year.

Grundy reportedly unwilling to leave Victoria.

I find it amazing that Collingwood and its fans find it perfectly acceptable to just push (contracted) players out of the club in the manner that they do when said players are no longer of use - they'd have to be the most un-loyal and unapologetic clubs going around the point that their actions are rather despicable.

I hope Grundy stays or if he doesnt like Trelor, they end up paying $1M a season of there combined salary cap on ex-players.

Here is a side with our 4 oldest players ie. Zorko, Robinson, Rich and Lyons out of the side >

Darcy Wilmot, Harris Andrews, Brandon Starcevich.
Keidean Coleman, Jack Payne, Marcus Adams.

Oscar McInerney, Lachie Neale, Dev Robertson.
Will Ashcroft, Jarrod Berry, Hugh McCluggage.

Charlie Cameron, Eric Hipwood, Lincoln McCarthy.
Kai Lohmann, Joe Daniher, Zac Bailey.

Jaxon Prior, Callum Ah Chee, Cam Rayner, Darcy Fort.

Sub from- Noah Answerth, Rhys Matheison, Nakia Cockatoo, Tom Berry.

Pretty confident our flag window will be open for a while, particularly if we refresh with a suitable mid (Josh Dunkley please), and a couple of developing tall forward/backs.

Grundy being "pushed out" of anywhere would be delicious poetic justice.

Think that we saw the future a little bit last night. I have previously stated that the 3 forward set up just isn’t the way to go in todays game. I don’t know what our set up will look like next year but I do the like the look of that side, especially the forward setup. We just looked like we had some better run last night.

HB: Keidean Coleman - Marcus Adams - Jack Payne

R: Oscar McInerney - Lachie Neale - Cam Rayner

C: Will Ashcroft - Hugh McCluggage - Jarrod Berry

HF: Charlie Cameron - Eric Hipwood - Lincoln McCarthy.

FF: Kai Lohmann - Joe Daniher - Zac Bailey

INT: Dayne Zorko - Callum Ah Chee - Darcy Fort - Dev Robertson

MED SUB: James Madden
EMG: Rhys Mathieson - Jaxon Prior

Depth - Blake Coleman - Noah Answerth - Darcy Gardiner - Tom Fullarton - James Tunstill - Jarrod Lyons - Harry Sharp

Changes from Elim Final v Richmond:
Ins: Fort - Lohmann - Adams- Ashcroft- Rayner - Ah Chee (promoted from med sub)
Outs: McStay - Gardiner - Mathieson - Prior - Rich - Robinson

Midfield:
I would like to see Cam Rayner attend more centre bounces to provide a midfielder bull type.
I would have him rested up forward, with Bailey provided with large midfield minutes to utilise his speed.
I would also like McCarthy to have midfield time as well. He is tough in the contest and has good leg speed. In previous years has shown to be very capable. I am at a loss to the why he was not used more there this year.
Ashcroft - he is a midfielder. As such I would like him to start wing like McCluggage did early days, and not forward. I would give him some opportunity to play in the middle too (centre bounce) to see how he performs in terms of clearance work.

Darcy Fort:
For a ruckman, Fort and McInerney are reasonably accurate shots on goal.
I have included Fort on the basis he and McInerney spend time forward to replace McStay. Their height would trouble most backlines.
This will also allow Oscar to have a rest.
With this set up, I feel the impact of losing McStay will be low, if not neutral.

Daniel Rich:
Sad to leave him out.
His elite kicking will be missed.
He’s been loyal to the lions, and a warrior. Wrapped he earned an All Australian guernsey.
But Coleman is now our elite ball user from defence, and I feel Rich has now lost pace, and is looking a bit like Hodge in his final year.

James Madden:
I have chosen him on leg speed rather than 2022 form in the reserves, and that I really would like to see some extra leg speed in our team.
Sometimes a player lifts and performs better at a higher level.
The bit Madden has played at senior level I thought he’d done OK. I think he’s been a bit stiff in terms of not being given any extended run to prove himself at senior level.
The other player I hold hope for due to his elite running is Harry Sharp.
Yet, these 2 to date have been unable to secure a regular senior spot. With the need for more run, I can absolutely understand the interest in Conor McKenna. Could be used in defence or on a wing.

Jack Payne:
I much prefer him over Gardiner.
I think Payne has been very good when playing seniors, yet Fagan has preferred Gardiner and Adams over him.
Although a bit shaky at times, you often find a player becomes more reliable and confident after 50-100 games. I think he can develop into a very good defender. As strong as an ox with a booming kick and elite mark.

How's Adams going to pull up next year? Hear these long concussions can be bad. Worth trying to recruit a similar role player in the trade period in case?

Easier said than done vic, particularly when we are unlikely to have much in picks to offer for trade... will be used up matching bids and maybe/hopefully bringing Dunkley in.

Ethan Phillips a key defender from Port Melbourne who was mentioned in the trade thread could be a cheap option, rising star winner in the VFL.
