It's bad enough vic clubs get an arm chair ride as it is let alone counting flags wen half the Comp wasn't even established
There’s no official league ladder on this. It’s just historical fact.

Even if Hawks or Roo fans did, the facts are they were not seen good enough to be in league until then but their clubs existed. So they got whatever flags they got in league's history and they just the facts. If you an Eagles fans you can have some pride in being in league from 1987 and won 3 flags in just over 3 decades and going for a 4th. As they did not exist before then it is not like they had 90 years of a club not good enough to be it. They just did not exist before late 80's so can be proud of how good they been since they existed. It is all relative to how long you existed and been in the league for each club supporter group. For those that been around for much longer, naturally there is some meaning towards each other how many flags over 121 seasons. The race to 17 is on for our clubs. For those in the running it is fun bragging rights. For those not, plenty of other things to find meaning in. For GWS, Gold Coast and Fremantle just winning a first will mean so much. Just as it did for North in 1975 or Saints in 1966 or Eagles in 1992.VFL/AFL a continuous competition with teams coming and going. More will come and go too.
don't hear Hawthorn or North Melbourne arguing that the competition started in 1925.
I’ve seen plenty of Hawkes fans saying things started in 1961VFL/AFL a continuous competition with teams coming and going. More will come and go too.
I suppose we'll also now say Ian Stewart never won three Brownlow medals?
I don't see why interstate teams get hung up on this: don't hear Hawthorn or North Melbourne arguing that the competition started in 1925.

why 1961 specifically?I’ve seen plenty of Hawkes fans saying things started in 1961
why 1961 specifically?
On current probability it will be Collingwood. We are a fair bit off now and Carlton even further back.
Yeah basically they were regularly the worst team in the comp from 1925-1961 and they try not to acknowledge that period when talking about their dominance etcTheir first flag. It was a joke.

Included Melbourne because of where they sat in 1964. Included Richmond because I was curious.
This aged like a bottle of GrangeCarlton or Essendon.
Essendon the front runners, but I think their list is thin, but given the evenness of the comp at the moment, they could miraculously jag one. Carlton are building a quality list, but are still quite a few years away from genuinely contending, but I feel that what they are building is definitely capable of a flag or two.
Pies miles away.
Hawks even further away.
Recipe for wining a GF.
Have your coach doubted the year before, with supporters calling for his head at one stage.
Be a Victorian team.
The only reason they include the state premierships on the official records is because they would have had 100s of thousand whinging vics opposing it
Got to be honest, after the year you had last year, never in a million years would I have thought you'd be playing in the Granny when this season started. Credit to your boys. This aged like a bottle of Grange
Correct.Amazing Collingwood had over 50 years of being the club with most premierships before overtaken in early 1980's. Late 1920's was their golden era where they had a real surge to jump ahead of other big clubs. Looks like Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon and Fitzroy the only clubs to ever have a time they had most premierships in the league.

4 Teams (1916)GWS and Suns didnt join until 2011.
The AFL premiership tally is
Hawthorn 3
Geelong 1
Sydney 1
Western Bulldogs 1
Richmond 1
Everything before that was a different competition.
Amazing to think it’s actually 7 to Hawthorn and 3 to West Coast, Brisbane & Geelong since the VFL became a national comp in 1987AFL era: Hawks 5, West Coast 3, Brisbane 3, Geelong 3
Will get interesting if Collingwood level it with three of us all on 16 flags. Next decade could be a lot of fun.
When was last time three clubs lead the most amount of premierships in the league at one time? Not sure it ever happened.
Amazingly I think all the head to head records of the three clubs against each other are pretty close to.
When I first started following it was Collingwood on 13, Essendon 12, Melbourne 12, Carlton 11, Richmond 9 and Fitzroy 8. Early 80's when we were a power it eventually got to that Carlton and Collingwood 1981 grand final where we equal the 13 flags and took over the next year. Never been headed since but Essendon been with us for most of the last few decades. But we been shit for longest period in our club history and finally another may catch us. We need to get our shit together next decade to push ahead.
