First Tigers game you saw live

Got my membership renewal in the post yesterday and was looking at the blended photos and saw the one taken when we played in front of the Queen Vs Fitzroy at the MCG on a sunday.

I then realised that this was the first game i ever saw that the tigers played in. I was (very) young and my elder brother took me - we sat in the southern stand and i remember being told that the queen was sitting on the other side of the ground. Can remember nothing else about the game other than we lost. Rouind one 1970. I think the government had to pass a law to let the game go ahead (being on a sunday) I am pretty sure it was the first ever Sunday game apparently it was the only day in the queens schedule that she could see a game.

Quite an usual first game.

Tell us about yours.

Good morning people, from the sunny WHitsundays.
First game was at Moorabbin. I was 7. My old man took me down to the stink hole and I got in for free because it was beanie day and I was wearing my beanie and jumper.
Remember the day vividly. Stood up in the outer. Mick Malthouse was playing for us and I was my dad who he was. He said 'Mick Shithouse'. Made me laugh.
We creamed them.
Funny how you can remember stuff so vividly 30 years ago.

Alcohol having dimmed the childhood memories somewhat, the details are sketchy but it was us versus the Doggies at the Western Oval some time in the late 70s.
I remember more about standing on empty cans trying to see my heroes and dodging piss in the outer than what actually happened on the field that day.

........... that I can remember, was with an uncle at Punt Rd against Hawthorn, I thinnk. For the Tigers I remember Ron Branton, Dick Grimmond and Bill Dummett who kicked about 1.7 at the Social Club end. No idea who won.

1975 Elimination Final v. Collingwood at VFL Park . Poured rain all day( must have had my plastic poncho on) we jumped them early and they pegged us back all day and we won by less than a goal.
Butch Edwards was 10 metres out and going to kick it to me behind the goals and hit the post. That's my main menmory, that and the hi-tech globes on the 'electronic scoreboard'

Round 22 1983 v Fitzroy as a 12yo. We got done by 5-6 goals, and someone belted KB on top of his very smooth and shiney scone.

Due to growing up in the country (Terang) 1980 Grand Final against Collingwood at the age of 16. Stood at the back of Bay 13. Best induction ever.

First game I saw was at the then named Football Park against Adelaide (I think our coach was sacked after the game) we lost by over 130pts IIRC.

Aren't I lucky :)

I've only seen us win once here at AAMI and that was in 2006 against Port and the only other time I've seen us win live was against Collingwood in Round 4 at the G (First time there and there was about 80, 000 people) :thumbsu:

Hi everyone
Well i will show my age as the first game I ever saw was at punt rd,I remember my grandmother taking me to the window box to get our tickets. We sat in the grandstand and watched the tiges,Fred Swift,Des Rowe Ron Branton are players I have seen play. The sporting globe used to take photos and you could win money not sure how much I was so disapointed when my cousins photo was in the paper and not mine.My grandmother was a lady that had a photo of Danny Guinane on the wall in her kitchen and black and yellow tiles on the floor.:)

1982 it was round 3 or 4 against essendon i was 9 years old, scores were pretty even till 3 quater time then richmond went beserk in the last and kicked something like 10 goals in the last, i was standing behind the fence of the goals we were kicking too which made it even better.

We kicked 7.4 to 2.1 in the last quarter that day and won by 62 points - over 90 000 at the game. :D

1982 ...final round v Swanettes @ SCG ....down 51-2 at 1/4 time got up to win by 17...I was 11....me and my mate got free tickets for the hill from Kentucky Fried..but our parents didn't want us sitting with all the "yobbos" so they paid for us to sit in the Brewongle stand.. .main memories of the day include laughing at The Swans Banner collapsing (it read "The Swans turn Tiger Power To water" ) ....an all in in the third quarter ...making fun of some Dawks supporters in Dawks gear and telling them they were at the wrong game...and yelling out "witty" remarks such as "The Swans are a bunch of sterile budgies!!!" and "Go back to South Melbourne!!!" me and my mate running on the ground afterwards getting into a fight with some Swans kids who'd found a Tigers pennant and said they were going to burn it...and chasing another kid in a Manly RL jumper who told us that "The Swans were better than the shit Tigers" haha.... I took my beloved stuffed Richmond Tiger which I've still got.

my first game was round 4, 1990, we won by 14 goals against fitzroy and Michael Mitchell took what i think is still the best mark i have ever seen at the MCG, and to make the day better i sat next to brian gorgian the coach of the sydney kings, and god did he have a quality mullet!!!

Yes that must be the game i went to and it felt like 10 goals because every goal in that last quarter was celebrated like a soccer goal, the richmond crowd was so loud in those days it was incredible.

LOL...remember the beanie days...classic! Can't remember my first Tiger game though. Funny how you can remember some stuff..but not others:eek:
But it would have been late 70's because I had no one to take me to 'live' games.

I can remember seeing Royce take games apart on TV when I was 7 though and decided then and there, as much as I knew I was a rover, and Lethal was a champion, my Dawks jumper went in the bin and the number 4 on the yellow and black took its place. Hang on..I am on the wrong thread. I can remember seeing the number 29 regularly ripping teams apart at the G after Royce had to give the game away:thumbsu:

Was going to post today asking where you were Tugga...been missing them so much!

Can't remember much at all about my first game, cept that we were sitting behind the goals, when we got there I asked dad 'why can't we hear those guys that talk about the game', and knighta kicked a goal and i said to dad 'whos that, hes gonna be my favourite player'. That's all i remember. Happy with the choice for favourite player.

I luv this thread because I don't reckon I'm the oldest on here any more lol

First game, 1965 Princess Park v Tiges. I told my dad I liked the Blues and he told me to wash my mouth out lol.

Hey Peejay, I was at the Fitzroy game too - which we lost

I think my first match would have been the 1986 Grand Final, mainly because my dad had me watching it. The first game I remember watching was Richmond vs. Sydney in Round 9, 1995, the day Matty Richardson injured his knee.

First game I've seen live would be Richmond/Hawthorn down here at Aurora it was a practice match back in '95 (I think).

My first game was 1969 - my family had just arrived from the UK, we lived on the very outer edge of the western suburbs and my father had no time for sports. Our neighbours who were mad keen Footscray supporters decided to take me as a 6th birthday present to a VFL match at the Western Oval... I think they had designs on me being a Bulldog. I was a bit contrary, it was a miserable cold and wet day (the coldest I can remember being, even Arctic Park seemed warmer in later years), didn't really get on with the neighbours' son, liked the yellow and black team so barracked for them even though they lost... when the Tigers won the flag that year, I was hooked.

The neighbours never took me to the football again....

1980 second semi final I think vs Geelong. Remember standing on the pedestrian bridge lining up to get in and I could barely even see the ground through the crowd. I am pretty sure I spent the game listening to my Dad and Grandfather giving it to everything that wasn't Black and Yellow....I sure couldn't see the game as a short arse in the outer.

Great memories, my first Richmond game as well! I was sitting in the expensive Adelaide members seats as they were donated to my family by Crows supporting friends. I remember being happy at the end of the game only because we didn't have our all time record loss!
