Apparently in the next lot of floating fixtures we have 2 more Friday night games coming up - Home vs carlton and away vs St Kilda. Likely Round 23 will be Friday night vs Melbourne as well - love Friday night at the Gabba.

Amazing! I've got a gig in Sydney on the Saturday so will be able to go to the Carlton game after all!

Looked for the latest Robvlogs and found a new up and about segment, which is question and answer.

Points of interest
Called wing a shit position
Said he wasn't dropped, but just couldn't get back into the team after injury
Said he struggled mentally with retiring when he couldn't get back in. Was his hardest time in Brisbane.
Doesn't like the way the media deals with players
Wants to get into media post footy and bring have a different media player interaction.

Just read on AFL.COM English will miss this week's match against Hawks with concussion and could also miss against us seeing the match is on a Thursday night. We seem to be getting a continuous run of opposition outs lately.

5 day break from the Carlton game to the saints game on Friday night in round 22

Guessing there is no algorithm or parameters programmed into the fixture generator ... surely avoiding five day turn arounds should be something to be avoided if you can ...

We are the only team who will have to deal with a 5 day break with the latest fixture dump :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

There is provision for teams to have a 5 day break once per season and we haven't had one yet I guess.

Wow Richmond and Carlton games on a Sunday. Cooked.

Just like last time they try and throw us a crumb by reporting it like "The Sunday afternoon prime time slot blockbuster is BACK!"

Notice that our Friday night game is in Melbourne

What do we have to do to get a Friday night at the Gabba?

Surely Round 23 vs Melbourne will be Friday night. Based on previous history though they will put Carlton v Collingwood Friday night though.

To be fair, the Melbourne v Collingwood game that week should be a good game.

I don’t actually Mind that 3.20 time slot due to the fact that it’s pretty close to the Grand Final time.
All bar it is on a Saturday and not the Sunday.
But the time slot I like.

If I was Collingwood, I would send DeGoey out with Dane Swan - how to party up, and get away with it 101.

Disclaimer: I try and stay away from such discussions, because I’m never any good at taking a “side”, or providing a strong argument on one side or the other. And being honest, I was a d!ckhead as a kid, have done worse, and probably didn’t start to mature or “grow up” until I was 39.

However…

Interesting listening to my boss (plays for a QFA club) and my 2ic (female, close to retirement age) talk about the De Goey “situation” this afternoon. While not directly defending all of De Goey’s behaviour, but defending footballer/sportsmen like De Goey, Swann, Warne, Boon, etc.

What makes a larrikin a larrikin? when are they allowed to be larrikin’s?

Warne had done far worse than De Goey in how he had treated women in night club environments, and worse than Bailey Smith in terms of usage, but never copped the criticism that De Goey has, or has at the very least has mostly been forgiven for all his indiscretions.

Is it purely that there are cameras everywhere and with today’s social media, everything is seen, rather than us just hearing stories of past sporting “hero’s”

I don’t condone De Goey’s treatment of women, and have always thought he was a d!ckhead.

Is it because De Goey is a d!ckhead, with priors, that this story is as big as it is.

I also don’t know if the media does go to far sometimes, looking for a story, or make a story bigger than it probably should be.

From what I’ve heard, the Steven May incident should be a bigger football story, and should be discussed more than De Goey’s Bali behaviour.

I generally agree.

What we used to get up to back in the day is unprintable. It doesn't mean we were bad people ,just immature with too much testosterone.

De Goey is obviously mentally challenged but it looks more to me that the culprit is Collingwood's management and mentoring of him rather than anything specific he did in Bali. They should have told him in the strongest terms possible not to go there and if he did to keep well hid. Obviously both pieces of advice might have been difficult for him to get his head around.

Video footage is a massive part of it. It's a lot easier to both sweep things under the carpet (from the sportsperson's POV) or dismiss things as rumour (from the supporters' POV) if it's just someone claiming something. If there's video to show them being an idiot or worse, then that's game over. You see it regularly where a player or a club will dismiss something or other, only for video to come out to show them lying and force them to backpedal massively. There wouldn't have been a single comment about De Goey's behaviour if it wasn't videoed.

Strongly disagree with blaming the club for De Goey's bad behaviour. It's just typical of society consistently blaming other people/organisations for their wrong doing. Our culture here in Australia is to never put our hands up and take responsibility for anything. Even in the workplace now, a person could be stupid enough to put his hand in something that could remove it from his arm and it would be a workplace fault rather than an idiot move by the worker. Time to take responsibility for what he does...not switch it over to someone else.

Ah yes ADHD. When I see two boobs my ADHD won't let me concentrate until I pull them out so they become only one pair of breasts. This totally explains De Goeys behaviour...

I have ADHD and I work as a doctor. It took me a while to get diagnosed with it as a teenager. I would have to work doubly hard to understand things my peers would get easily. I just thought I was dumb. Luckily I had a good school teacher who suggested I get tested and now that I am on medication my grades shot up and I got through med school. I never acted like an impulsive shit mistreating people around me when I had untreated ADHD. I am thankful this diagnosis exists. I wonder how many people have abandoned their studies thinking they were stupid instead of just undiagnosed ADHD. I just hate how this diagnosis is now used to excuse poor behaviour and general assholery.

I didn't blame them for his behaviour which is his responsibility and captured on video and whilst not totally acceptable isn't at the high end of repulsion. I do blame them for their management and mentoring of him which has fallen short. He should have suffered a square off of some description if he was determined to go to Bali in the mid season break for 4 days. Prevention is better than cure and he had form.

I wonder if he'll make McStay a party boy.

Tbh I couldnt care that much about how much of a party animal players are off the field. It would be stupid to expect a bunch of cashed up 20 something's to not burn that cash on booze and partying.

For me it's why a senior, perhaps most important player, is taking a 4 day holiday to Bali mid season. Screams unprofessional for me.

McStay and Rayner liked De Goey's instagram post - which is still up despite the 'apology' yesterday.

I think your summary of the incident is pretty accurate - a bit gross but if consensual it isn't the biggest thing in the world. But the problem is he has alleged form for poor behaviour towards women. A prosecution withdrawn for indecent assault in 2021 is not a court verdict of guilt or innocence, and he pled guilty in the US to harassment (after more serious charges were downgraded). Both incidents occured at nightclubs/clubs.

Of course there was going to be scrutiny on him and frankly, he deserves it.

Wonder what his training regime was like while he was in Bali ?
