I know it's a trope/stereotype but FMD, the diving and playing up for free kicks is so gross.

Imagine sticking these guys in and AFL or NRL game. They'd get eaten alive.

Sad that FIFA and the top world leagues allow this s**t to keep festering because it's genuinely off putting.

It's why I don't watch any of it. Can't get past it.

I was speaking to a mate about this just before, I think it's interesting to look at the countries that do it the most and which sports dominate that country. Usually most of the South American teams dive quite a lot and football (soccer) seems to dominate those countries, whereas us for example hardly ever do it. I wonder if growing up in a society with far more physical sports like rugby and AFL has played a part in the perceived toughness of the team.

Good tournament from us in the end. To sneak in through the qualifiers and then do some damage knocking one of the better sides in Denmark out of the tournament is a good effort. Definitely didn't expect us to make it out of the group let alone win a game.

Now time for England to do the business and if not, any country with some Liverpool players on it (Brazil, France, Netherlands) haha.

It's long been a criticism of Aussie Soccer that our teams are tough and physical but lack in talent and touch.

We also don't dive.

The number of times blokes dropped at the slightest hint of contact, rolling around on the floor until a whistle is blown... It's honestly embarrassing that this is the ELITE level of the sport and there is an acceptance of this behavior.

Yeah it's a blight on the game, referees have begun to card players that act like that but it's definitely not enforced anywhere near enough as it should be. You look at the countries with tougher and as popular sports and they don't seem to act the same way. Definitely reckon culture has a part to play in it rather than it being an issue of the sport itself.

For the new or casual fan it's a deal breaker but if you can look past it you kind of forget it even happens if I'm honest.

It's a shame the world game isn't AF. In my opinion it's just much more interesting on a range of different levels, to see the best athletes from all different countries playing our game would be fantastic!

Getting past France isn't going to be easy. Perhaps they'll do a Geelong and defy history though. Croatia v Japan probably the best of the remaining matches of the round. They are pretty evenly matched. I think Brazil should take care of SK.

Portugal v Switzerland should be a classic, both good sides to watch and very evenly matched.

Completely agree with all of this Gringo. Even as a massive England fanatic, I don’t have much hope of us getting past France. Mbappe looks otherworldly at the moment.

I have Brazil and Spain dispatching SK and Morocco easily, but I reckon Switzerland have a good chance against Portugal. Shaqiri turns into prime Messi at World Cups for the Swiss.

Spot on with Japan and Croatia, can’t pick a winner between them. Hopefully Japan as I love their passion for the game and fan culture.

I'd actually forgotten Switzerland v Portugal. It should be a good game.

Lack of sleep the last couple weeks is catching up with me but some rippers on tomorrow. Hope Japan advance too, and rooting for Brazil for Fabinho and Alisson but hope Korea makes it a good one to watch.

Japanese lost their bundle a bit in the shootout unfortunately, and Brazil looked set for a 10-0 thrashing before taking the foot off the gas.

Morocco v Spain and Portugal v Switzerland tomorrow
