Fisher's been one of my favourite players since his debut, a very smart footballer with lovely skills but ultimately he wasn't very good defensively and that's why he was replaced by options who better fit our needs in that half forward role.

Had similar thoughts on Levi when we let him go. Loved what he did for the club in a tough time, I even have a signed guernsey from The Big Tofu... End of the day we wanted to make space for Harry and Charlie to become our two spearheads and it meant he was pushed out due to his limitations as a footballer.

If stating that is 'clipping a player on their way out' call me gutless all you want. Imo it's the equivalent of calling water wet. The club could have easily held on to Fisher if we wanted but clearly we saw him as replaceable and were happy to let him seek better opportunities for himself.

They really need to do away with Band 2 compensation. Picj 21 for a player the Saints don't want

It's a great call.

A few years ago, a mate's son headed to the Eastern Ranges as the gateway to get drafted....he was a gun junior playing senior football at the time for one of the large suburban clubs. Didn't last that long at the Ranges because it was basically an environment which was so structured and regimented that it took all the fun out of it. The kid just wanted to play footy.

NAB League clubs are there to prepare these juniors to be drafted for the cut and thrust of AFL. It seems that each they are getting better in the preparation of these kids to the point that there isn't a huge disparity between the best and the rest. Which is why after the first 5-7ish, you could throw a blanket over the rest.

Yeah, they have been screwing all their players on contract value with the new CBA, not passing on the increase to make space.

Expect a lot of Bombers coming out of contract to want to move in the coming years

Should be no such thing as compensation picks. You've had 8 years (or thereabouts) to make players want to stay. If players leave after this time, so be it. Use the cash saved to attract someone to replace them.

Hand in hand with this, there should be no floor on total player payments. West Coast shouldn't be having to pay 95% of the salary Collingwood do. This would allow a shit team to be able to attract some quality free agents, by paying their current players what they're actually worth.
