I’m expecting carnage when the injury report comes out tomorrow. Absolute carnage. Serong being injured would fit nicely into the recent trend of a nasty surprise injury each Monday that no one considered after the game.

I have no physio - medico background so it's impossible for me to evaluate the work Weber and the S&S team is doing.

I, like most others are only able to evaluate from their own lay observations - which is that:

- Our team suffers a lot of injuries, possibly more on average than other teams.
- Our team suffers a lot injuries regularly, at both training and during games.
- Our team suffers a lot of the same type of injuries.

This could all just be bad luck. Maybe Harley Bennell would be playing for us right now too if he was still on our list too.

Weber has been at the club for 12 years, how many other staff have been there that long? Why would comprehensive reviews of the club continue to see Weber survive the cut? Wouldn't head staff be frustrated eith the continual injuries too? If so, they must be satisfied with his work.

If Ross Lyon was let go mostly due to 'the noise' as Alcock pointed out then perhaps the only way the club will force their hand is if the fans demand it.

As a know-nothing, I'd like to see a fresh approach and fresh eyes sooner rather than later, if only to change things up.

Agreed with all - the only thing I can assume is that with Ross being paid out of the soft cap this season there wasn't the $$ required to bring in a top S&C head.

We need to look at the teams with the best record over the past 3 years and poach the top guy or the second in charge.

I think Michael Prior said something about Hughes playing through the game with a bad hip from a knock he took in the first quarter.

WC going to be very happy we played our grand final this weekend.

Tomorrow’s news today:
1. An early post from freo on twitter in the morning saying Sturt is a good chance to come come back in for the derby Sunday. No mention of other injuries.
2. The dreaded “envision imaging report” at about 4pm, the headline will be “good news on the injury front as Sturt a test for Sunday”
3. Nestled further in the fine print will be
Logue: still TBA
Young: TBA
Darcy: could be a test but leaning toward TBA
Walters & Serong: leg injuries
Hughes: Hip 1-2 weeks

plus all those other long term injuries.
Cox will probably be a test so he’ll be in the big positive headline too actually. Fyfe won’t be mentioned.. BUT
On Thursday or Friday he’ll be a late out.

throw in another totally left field out that no one has thought of like the last few weeks. It’s always a good player in form - my money on Brayshaw or Tucker. We are actually cursed.

If there is one this this shitshow has demonstrated, its that a list cut to 35 is totally ridiculous and impractical. If we had a list of 35 this year we literally would struggle to field 22 plus emergencies each week. That’s not an exaggeration. So it won’t happen.

I really don’t know how much the longer term problems, like soft tissue injuries, are the fault of the S&C guys - I don’t know enough about Sports Science - but it does seem like we have a lot of very long term injuries that get extended and 2-3 weeks is, in fact, half the season. Captain Obvious.

But if these guys really aren’t up to scratch, which I think they’re probably not, I’d hope that Belly sits down with Garlick as the new CEO, and has a good long chat about replacing Weber, and then they follow through with bringing in someone new. Kate Starr (long time Hockeyroo) has done some great things in managing the injuries of the women’s team. We could do worse than bring her on board for the men’s team. She’s highly regarded and, it appears, very competent.

If not her, there would have to be someone better to head up that department. 12 years is a long time for one person unless they are exceptional, and I don’t think that Weber is. I think it would be ugly reading if we went through the players who have been put on the park while still injured, and then reinjured themselves first or second game back. And others who have injured something else because they’re moving differently to protect the original injury.

here’s Sturt in a moon boot.

That was the pic I thought was Serong. Similar haircut, and with mask on a bit more difficult to pick. Should have looked more closely at the number on the backpack.

Apologies for the heartache caused... 😖

But still, that doesn’t fill me with warm fuzzies and much hope for next week 😢

That doesn't look anything like Serong

Sturt must be out for a while though

Clubs do use the moonboot and crutches as a precaution and for protection to take all weight off the joint, even for very mild sprains so you never can tell.

I’ve seen many a player like this on Monday but still plays on the weekend.
This.

I've seen players roll up to training in one, train and then back in the boot, then play.

Gary Ablett Jnr even showed up with one, trained fully, then had crutches brought out to him to walk off with.. but that was for the cameras.

Listen back to the footage of the incident on the AFL website in the report on the suspensions. The commentary team were disgusting. The incident was replayed 4 times and there was nothing but stone cold silence from the whole lot of them. “Ooh he’ll be a loss” “been Fremantles best player” few other meaningless statements like that.
Not a ****ing word about the guy who made the hit. Healy in particular (special comments my arse) had nothing to say. Nothing!! Not even a hint of a suggestion that Long could be facing a suspension for the hit. Pathetic. At the end of the clip, you can hear Howie say “did I hear the umpire say he’s on report?”
Perfect chance for Healy or brad Johnson to finally comment on whether Long had a case to answer.... - nothing! Pathetic effort from the entire commentary team on probably the most controversial incident of the entire weekend.

Yes they were strangely silent considering it was an obvious suspension.

A few ‘yeah that’s a big hit’ - as if they were praising him for his toughness in executing a good bump. 🙄

Brad Johnson was very critical of Long on Foxtel this afternoon while Ed was trying to make a case for Long
