This. That match up annoyed me. Draper was exposed earlier in the game. Why persist when the game was on the line. Curnow is far too dangerous for a one-on-one against a rookie.

I think the idea was for Ryan to help out with Curnow but unfortunately that doesn’t work every time.

Why did Jackson knock the tap back into the middle and to space???????

THATS WHY Darcy plays as our ruck. He’d just body up and keep the tap in close and create more scrums.

I have no idea why Jackson not only hit it to space but through the middle?

Watching the replay he actually angled his run up and everything to go through the middle.

How can we have spares back but not in space???

What the * were we doing.

There are clear signs that playing sole ruck is a massive load on him. He needs to go back forward so he can be more impactful.
This game just shows how dumb the commentary is that he should be a full time ruck. Doing that robs him of the energy to be the dynamic match winner.

Don't bother - read the stats sheet Instead, far more interesting, far more informative of where we are honestly at. Our midfield killed them in possessions. The score was irrelevant and the end result was manufactured.

The AFL will issue a pointless meaningless apology for the late umpiring error, just as they did with Carlton's kick win after the siren a few years back, but the result will still stand.

We won the game but lost the last 90 seconds.

Called it. Just one day later, Channel 7 News Perth ran a story, confirming the AFL admits the umpires got the call wrong.

But do the AFL also bother to confirm the umpire's error and repeat their admission of fault anywhere on their website (which has national coverage, not just in Perth?)

Carlton do one thing well and that's defend/contest/harass. They get hands in, smothers, taps, knocks etc. They don't give up on the player with the ball. Only reason they were even in the game besides the umpires and our decision making/execution.

We will get better but we are squandering too many opportunities in the game after doing the hard work defensively.

Alright umpiring aside, we should have put that game away. There were some real positives in this game and we have plenty to get excited about as Freo fans. If we want to do some damage this season we need to work on the following:

• Amiss down on form- 1 kick in the second half and has kicked 1.3 from set shots in the last 3 weeks. He is down on form and is really costing us.
• Treacy dropping marks- he does everything so well but his dropped marks are killing us. A key forward that can't hold a mark isn't a key forward.
• Brayshaw I50- Brayshaw Is an absolute gun in the contest but is a liability in the forwardline. He can't hit a leading forward on the chest and he is poor infront of goal. Would have been the difference today if he kicked those goals. This is why Warner is a perfect match for us.
• Walters slowing down- not much we can do here except pray there is an elite small forward in the draft this year.

Agree 100 percent. In respect to Walters, Simpson and Delean look the goods, Walters did look slow today, particularly when one on one competing for the ball. Still has plenty to offer, this season. Emmett should have kicked 4.

Yup. There were some of his kicks going i50 who you couldn't even tell who he was aiming for. He'd kick it into space 15/20m away from the closes freo player.

The thing about the dissent rule is when they brought it in they were very strict but they have been lax all season. So it feels very selective when they apply it. I see players mouthing off to umps constantly in every game and its rarely ever pinged as harsh as it was there.

Anyways positives from the game:

• Depleted defence able to keep McKay goalless
• Draper held his own for the most part against Curnow. Just seemed to tire as the game went on.
• Sharp was immense. Such a good pick up for free.
• Clark should be in everyone's AA team this year.
• Midfield absolutely destroyed Carlton in the clearances. Would've been nice if we had more forward of the ball to kick to
• Absolutely matched it with Carlton who AFL loves to pretend are the bench mark. If this was the game for us to "prove ourself" there's no way you can argue that we didn't while talking up Carlton in the same breath

We dominated them with Draper playing on Curnow? Interesting decision by the coach, but I’m here for it

I think Sonny wanted to take his time with his last kick to Treacy, but maybe should have kicked it to Treacy the first time he lead.

If Serong was in that situation he would have kicked one of those two shots at goal. Brayshaw just isn't damaging I50 which is a shame because everything else he does is A grade. The only way to fix this is to bring in a goal kicking midfielder.
