Game Day Freo v WCE - Preseason Game 1

Tabs,Ape and Mac are pathetic...and shouldn't be on the list!
(based on one preseason game where we were trounced).

Who will we play forward??
Dunno;can't be Sutcliffe,Ibbotson,Pearce,Johnson or Griffin they're all weak campaigners.
Our recruiters must be shit!!
Club is kidding itself.
Hamling couldn't even stop the Coleman with space, time and foot to tit delivery all day!!!
FFS!!
WTF were we thinking signing him??

If that's all Fyfe offers as a leader we should go back to Mundy.
Didn't inspire them to even give great effort.Didn't inspire some of them to give any effort.
They violated space, time and integrity out there today.
Out Pearce.
Suban's a spud.

Only sycophantic drongos support them....

No need to rinse.... just repeat....

Bigfooty posters have had a huge preseason, flexing our discernment, showing great stamina and hunger for precise, objective evaluation.
We deserve better for our efforts!

1st game for the preseason yielded no points and bugger all great footy.
We're not Hawthorn:huh:
I put my membership in the glove box and torched the car.

I swear to god half of Mitchell's kicks have barely been 15m
He comes with the Hawthorn concession!
Umps happy to honour the trade.

I think I'm doing it right:cool:

It was a disappointing day but I see a few positives....

-Brad Hill kicked 2 goals So did ballantyne.

-Kersten has already proved he will be handy for freo this season. He kicked 1 goal today. But at least he did it with a set shot and he was confident in doing it. Cant say the same thing with Mayne.

-Ed Langdon and Weller put in some effort.

-Good to see Fyfe run around.

-Also Sandi, Neale and Alex Pearce are out of the team, those 3 will help us.

Now for the next 2 Pre season games...

What really stood out to me was when Brad Hill had the ball in space... and had no options to kick to.. I can't ever remember that happening at hawthorn.

You're going to see hell lot more of this if we're going back to the defensive game plan.

They weren't playing a +1 in defence, which is what they have been doing at training.

I have no idea what the game plan is and I'm sure round 1 will be the only way to figure it out.

I really hope its a hybrid instead of a complete revert back.

Defining year for Ross Lyon.

Basically at the moment, the 2017 game plan is:

Found myself a lot more interested in the cricket on Fox than the JLT game. The bits I did see were marred with fumbles or high kicks when we had chances to go forward and the Eagles cutting us up with loose players through the middle of the ground. We looked lethargic and very rusty. Can only get better.

Did anybody notice this was the first practice match?
It was a practice match - we played at half pace.
Next game, we will improve. I am astounded by the trash written in these comments like it is home and away season.
Show me a team that has won the NAB cup and gone on to win the premiership, and I will accept your pathetic reasoning to why players are failing.
We improved as the game went on. That is all. That is it.

FFS - it is pre season - no injuries is massive good times. That is all I care about. We went half pace in a game that means nothing. So what

I will admit, that I did not like the long kicking into a a forward line behind the ball. I did like the way in the second half how we shut their game plan down. So what happens in season proper? Who knows?

We're in a high training load phase and the shiny new facilities distracted everyone. We'll be better in the build up for round one, but it's still fun to melt and enjoy the ride.

Our full field zoning is a joke. We leave paddocks for opposition players to walk into (no need to run, there's that much space) - especially coming off their half back line.

I was a bit disappointed. Thought we would do better. But we had a lot of changes out there and think what we need most isn't a win, it is game time into the players. That is, exactly what we got. Probably dropped my expectations a touch for the year, but that's not a bad thing. It isn't like we are actually premiership contenders. Much more important to build solid foundations.

- badly needed some in and under support. Mundy was damn ordinary, and Blakely and SHill not much better. Well beaten at the coal face.

- we were pretty lucky that their rucks were ordinary. Without Sandilands we are lame. Happy to sing Darcy's praises, and look forward to him making a difference in time.

- cannot believe how disorganized we looked. But we rarely had the ball.

- keep blooding young players, but still need the likes of MJ, Dawson and Pearce imo. Suban and Sutcliffe...... shuffle them out.

Suban, Griffin and Sutcliffe out.
Neale and Sandi back in.

Need to get hands on the ball next week.
200 less possessions. We're lucky we didn't lose by 100.

Incidentally the clearances were even around the ground and in the middle I think?

I don't think we can play with Taberner and Apeness together.

Not mobile enough.
Kersten did some nice things. Walters and Ballantyne worked hard and for Brad Hill ta get two goals when he was crook was pleasing. You could see he was suffering...had no run.

Positive: No one injured, no more games in Geraldton
Negative: We didn't get the 4 points
Questions: How long will it take our team to gel? with so many new faces and new captaincy I think it may take quite a few games before we see some good results. Let's get these garbage games over so we can get to the real stuff!!

A few positives first:

the return of Fyfe

fairly good performances from Bhilly (specially if unwell), Tucker (fairly low game time, a very balanced game with contested and uncontested possies, tackles, reasonable DE), Langdon (reasonable disposal numbers, good DE, blistering pace and the desire to perform a rundown)

a bit to like about Sean Darcy, Shane Kersten, Apeness all on fairly low game time

A few OKs I guess but I wont list them.

A lot of negatives:

winning the hitouts 31 - 9 and losing the clearances - what were our midfield thinking (Mundy in particular)

total lack of intensity at the start

losing the tackle count when we hardly had the ball

the contrast between a well drilled Eagles unit and our rabble could not have been starker

it has been said often enough but if Suban gets another game (without earning one at WAFL level) I will totally lose all faith in Ross (and I am teetering on the brink as it is)

Hamling completely out of his depth - difficult circumstances I know but he barely made Kennedy compete

And for those having a go at Sutcliffe, I don't get it, he had more tackles than anyone else and was a long way from our worst.

We really need to find a game plan or 2017 is going to be a repeat of 2016.
