Umpires only response: you've gotta aim for the waist...

Last time I checked anything below shoulder-height was a fair tackle - or is it only when selwood is invovled that a tackle is only deemed fair if it's around his waist lol

Maybe if the tackler did tackle Selwood around the waist, Selwood wouldn't have been able to manipulate the tackle so it went over the shoulder.

Food for thought, huh?

Should have done what they did for St Kilda and let someone else take the kick, might have won us the game.

Gold! :thumbsu::D

Hodge was voted most courageous for a reason ahead of Selwood. (the players are aware of it now)

Selwood won it last year. So what's your point? That the players are taking notice of the Collingwood-driven media bleating about his apparent ducking?

Yes that is exactly what I am saying.

Its not Collingwood it is the whole Footy industry that is awake to Selwood.

Everyone except Geelong supporters of course.

It is Geelong supporters who keep trotting out the old "no one goes harder" routine for Selwood.

I was pointing out that indeed there is someone that goes harder than him.

If you are smart enough to draw a legitimate free kick in a contested situation then more power to you I say. Selwood may well duck a bit, but if we all know it, then the opposition players should too and make allowances for it with their tackling technique.

Selwood is a fine player. I'd love to have him at the Saints.

Several things:

1). The previous free kick shown during the St Kilda game - that was a clear free kick. That is not the sort of thing I am talking about.
2). Geelong supporters mentioning that he only got 1 free kick last week and declaring that to be the "truth" of the situation. He is also second in the entire league for Free Kicks for. Thanks for playing though.
3). There may not be any U Tube clips, but the game recently that started all this up again was the Collingwood one. He got 6 frees from memory, I think 5 were for high contact. On one he was penalised for holding the ball and he almost cried
4). Again, Selwood is a top 10 player and mostly exploits what is a vagueness in the rules (a vagueness that not all players benefit from. Watch any random game and watch hgih contact when the arm slips up after a player dips of dives not being paid.
5). The handful of posters on here defending Selwood, you are the only Geelong supporters I know that deny he milks free kicks. I grew up in Geelong, all my family and friends live there, I speak to hundreds of one eye Geelong supporters every day and they tell me "too bad" and "stop whinging" but NEVER do they say he does not milk frees.

You are indeed a rare bunch here.

Why is it the ball player's responsibility to avoid head high contact? Hint: it's not.

Sorry, but you've got this completely wrong.

It is not the ball player's reponsibility. On this point I completely agree with you. Why is it the other players responsibility to dive out of the way of a guy driving his head into their body. I think that it is not their responsibility either.

Why then is it not "play on"?

You want an example of a player ducking into a tackle to win a free kick?

Compare that to the Selwood video and you'll see they're worlds apart.

To my eyes, this video shares much in common with the Selwood/Burgoyne one and the other Selwood one where he kicked the awesome goal (Selwood/Jones I think).

I don't think any of them should have been free kicks

Then your eyes need fixing.

If you can't see that Hodge collects the ball, and then turns his body and dives headfirst into Hawkins, in 2 seperate actions, then I don't know what to tell you.

Selwood is tracking and in the process of collecting the ball, when contact is made with Burgoyne. I wouldn't mind seeing that one not paid, but you have to be consistent.

You have to give the ball player the benefit of the doubt. If high contact is made, unless it is a clearly seperate action, apart from contesting the football, you have to pay the free.

Selwood is one of my favourite players. I am happy to say he is hard & tough & puts his head over the ball and therefore you expect he will get free kicks.

I have been watching a little more closely lately and there is an element of him looking for them and exagerating the contact. So I can see where the discontent comes from especially when its happening against your side - no one wants to see un warranted kicks paid against them.

The umpires are in a difficult spot as they need to protect the players heads and at the same time not pay frees to those who drop their head or duck into tackles. It happens quick & Selwood manages to wiggle into a position where it looks as though he was taken high initially.

I say good luck to him if he can milk them then well done, but the umps will look at the tapes & see what we are seeing & eventually become less gullible. We have seen in the past players who dive (like Lloydy) eventually be harshly done by as the umps are reluctant to be taken for a ride.

Selwood remind anyone else of an Imperial shuttle?

Discuss.

Notice you didn't argue with any of my post.

Can't believe you posted that shuttle shit twice.

Remember Podgy is a practicing Jedi knight, you know it is a religion!
Obviously he's been consulting the trilogy (Equivalent of the Bible if your Christian) for inspiration rather too much of late.
