Rumour Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

I notice that the AFL article posted a couple of pages back suggests that Stefan Martin has departed the club. I know it has been rumoured, but it seems like it hasn't been confirmed by the club (unless they made a mistake in the article and confused him with Varcoe)

To be fair, we could hire Charles Manson and Stevens would think he's a ripper option.
To be extra fair. At this point we could hire anybody and this board will think he’s a steaming shit of hopelessness. If his name recognition isn’t deemed as satisfactory.

Most of us would just like a small inkling as to what the plan is.

We’re the members . We’re the supporters . It’s our club not theirs . We’ve invested decades in this club . What the actual eff is going on.

Bevo’s reputation now proceeds him
and it was a major reason he needed to leave this year. He took a premiership winning coaching group and shook the sh*t out of it for no reason leading to years of underperformance. He’s since manifested a coaching culture no one is interested in being a part of. This nonsense around giving him another year to see what happens is junk, we are not only underperforming in a current sense but we are squandering key development years with a lack of high quality assistant and development staff.

Wouldn't have thought it would be to hard to release something like ' the appointment of assistant coaches is progressing well, we are hoping to have some exciting announcements within the next 2 weeks....'

It’s sh1thouse having to rely on rumours and hearsay , through the legacy media or social media . We’re the last to know anything .

What’s the viable alternative to the club’s initial messaging though?

Anything beyond an actual appointment is destined to be written of as mealy mouthed weasel words by anybody in here.

Meanwhile in the real world people are touching grass and getting on with life…

Given the lack of results from the last announced review and significant holes in our coaching and support group surely there is an obligation to the members to simply provide a weekly update.

You expect member engagement and money, you better provide the feedback on critical issues to have that engagement

I think the problem is, is that we have essentially sacked 4 coaches, with no locked in replacement. When there’s no messaging, people make assumptions.

You don’t sack people unless you have a viable and locked in replacement IMO.

Supporters are now joining the dots and are getting concerned.

I know the club can’t give much away but the problem is, it looks stinky from afar.

True in most circumstances but remember that they brought in the rule where there is a set date by which you need to inform staff that their contract will not be renewed. Pair that with the challenges of approaching/poaching staff during a season and it's difficult to do it any other way.

If the supporters knew 100% that the club were progressing promising talks with as yet unnamed candidates, most would be comfortable. It’s simply the human trait of not liking uncertainty that makes people anxious and frustrated.

What do you want the weekly update to say? "We continue to look for assistant coaches to bolster our football department" week on week? No organisation would name names and I feel that that's appropriate. We have four vacancies, of course we're looking - what else do you want us to actually say?

I get asking for more engagement and communication and agree that we have been too closed off for a while now. But I just don't understand what commentary the club could actually provide, or that we would be entitled to, that would add anything.

Didn’t think of that - good point!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but we haven’t heard anything out of the club since August, which was the radio appearance by Grant backing in Bev and some background info given to Peter Ryan about the coaching changes around Bev. I think some form of either formal statement back then giving a very basic roadmap of what was coming and/or a simple progress uodate in the 6 weeks since is a reasonable expectation.

A review that has led directly to the subject at hand. One that instigated the process of replacing numerous line and assistant coaches. The idea that they need to put out a weekly statement that by its very nature would be an empty one is just pointless and would appease nobody at all. They’re currently working through a process that they set out a few weeks ago and are in an incredibly competitive market for a small grouping of individuals.

Your membership is discretionary. You have the right to withdrawn you contribution at any time. The idea that anybody might do do over not being keep in the loop over a series of appointments that by their ver nature need to be discreet seems a little churlish to me. The process will play out, appointments will be made and no amount of huffing and puffing from you or I is going to change that.

Didn't Bevo mention at his BnF speech that Stef was leaving but Bevo was still trying to convince him to stay, so Bevo doesn't consider Stef to be an official departure at this stage?
