G Jones worst 'keeper ever?

If Jones was from WA he would be the 4th string Keeper behind Gilly, Ronchi & Campbell. Don't rate him as a keeper at all but believe he may push for selection as a batsman.

I don't rates Jones very highly, but I think Patel's efforts on his last Australian tour were worse.

By all accounts Read is a much better keeper than Jones but not as good with the bat. But having superior batting skills doesn't help you take the chances.

Far from the worst in the world, also would be Australias 2nd best keeper if he was Australian
Glad your happy with him, because not even the Australian selectors would put up with his rubbish behind the stumps.

Patel is by far the worst. He was even worse in India than he was in Australia if you can believe that. He missed a heap of stumpings and dropped catches at times that could have turned matches, and typically India went on to be thumped, he was replaced for the last.

However Jones is keeping very badly, but doing ok in patches, so perhaps it is a lack of concentration. Gilchrist is keeping better by the virtue he is keeping just plain badly at the moment.

And yet you posted this earlier in the thread ...... "They dont show domestic cricket on TV, so its a bit hard".

So now I'm confused ! - have you seen Haddin keep or not ????

I have seen him, but thats because I go out to domestic games. They wanted examples but they probably havent seen much of Haddin with the Pura Cup never on TV and it would be hard to point out any mistakes people would know about

Just incase you didn't know Eddie there's a new form of the game which was just invented in the last 40 years, so I excuse you for not knowing it was around, but they should the ING Cup on TV

Nice to start a thread bagging Jones' keeping days after Gilchrist missed numerous stumpings and catches that cost Australia 125 runs from the bat of Michael Vaughan alone. Australia should be 2-1 up.

No you are wrong there, if Australia had of fielded and caught in the last two tests as they did in the 1st test, the score would be closer to 3-0.

There was a major natural disaster in Bangladesh and speed was of the essence in getting food to the victims.

The crisis management head, Mr. C.Read, sent out an emergency call to the England Cricket Board for the services of one Mr. Geraint Jones.

"What do you want him for ?"

"Sir, we have plenty of food that needs to be dropped aerially but we need experienced hands to drop food very quicky. We hear that Mr. Jones would be excellent at this since he has tremendous experience in this area".

"Geraint Jones ? Experience in emergency operations ?"

"No, Sir. Experience in dropping stuff".

The ECB chief pondered on this for a while.

"OK, seeing as it is for a good cause, we will release Mr. Jones for this purpose. But how does the process work ?"

"It is quite simple actually. The package goes from hand to hand before the last person just drops it off the plane. We would like Mr. Jones to be that last person. Nothing too complicated. But it needs speed".

"All right - no problem. He will be available to you right away".

"Thank you very much, Sir. We will arrange for his training rightaway".

As Mr. Read began leaving, the ECB chief made one last remark.

"One more thing. There is no real need to train Geraint. He is a natural. The best way to do it is to instruct your last person - the man giving the package to Geraint, to shout at him "Catch it". Also, if you can, make sure that person is Australian. We have seen that this works very effectively with Geraint. All the best."

:D

When Jones has had a career a quarter as good as Gilchrist's, then perhaps you can start making comparsions.

But Jones has been dropping sitters and missing stumpings since he played Tests, Gilly's problem is a form slump, Jones is a genuine lack of skill

Quit picking on the guy. He has improved from the first test, unlike Gilchrist. They have both screwed up with there catching and stumpings. Jones is at least pitching in with the bat and not relying on the tail enders to get them out of trouble for the last two test matches. If you are going to pick why dont you start on Hayden, Katich, Clarke, Gilchrist and even Martyn casue these guys are costing Australia wins.

First of all Gilchrist is proven when it comes to keeping and batting.
We have been critisizing our batsmen - where have you been?
And lastly, why are their so many Poms on this board?

Because they talk a lot more sense than you, who said during the 2nd Test 'I dunno why the Poms are so happy, they haven't scored enough runs in the 1st innings, Australia will win from here'

& then after you lost said 'We'll still win the series 4-1'
