Gary Ablett crying a river over Crowley's tactics

Matera out for 4 weeks.

What has impressed me with campaigner is the timing of his tackles. He is reeking havoc on players by hitting them just as they open themselves up, often in the ribs and he is leaving them winded more often than not. It's not late, it's not malicious, it's just a great rugby league tackle.
His disposal and offensive work is also improving, watching him evade wouldbe tacklers is a great sight. I had big doubts that he would be anything other than a gimmick, but the more he plays the more I think he might actually make it at AFL (if he wants to).

I agree - I reckon he is way ahead of Izzy the sideshow

Think he's already made it.

He's also just re-signed

Good post. I'm interested to see him play.

Perhaps AFL clubs should be looking more closely at some of the rugby skills.

I've been following the Brisbane Broncos since i was born. K.Hunt was awesome for them. His timing for tackles was just out of this world. He would knock props (who outweighed him by 20kgs) off their feet. He is also fast, smart and very very tough. He will be stronger than anyone at the Dockers over the ball. McPhee will come off 2nd best in a tackling competition trust me.I've never doubted that he would be good at AFL and hopefully he gets better and better.

K's also a year ahead of Izzy, give him 12 months and we could be saying the exact same thing about him too.

Even if you compare them at the same time (ie campaigner last season to Izzy this season), I still think campaigner is way ahead.

I'm pretty sure we're like the fifth heaviest team in the league or something.

Average weight for our full squad of 46 players is 85.5 kg (with stdev of 10.2)
I did check the Suns thinking they would average the lightest and they averaged 83.6kg (stdev of 8.4).

If I had the time I would do all clubs and table the results for you..

Take out our heaviest Sandi, and there heaviest and its even closer.

Pretty sad imo
That a bunch of kids are already as big and solid as us.

But i think there 22 would match our 22.

Just look at the size and muscle development on their players, then compare it to ours in the game on weekend.

I strongly believe we are lagging behind the competition in core strength and upper body strength.

It wouldn't be worth the time anyway. Just like the 'youngest v oldest' debate that rages every year, every team would be around the same mark.

Weight Schmeight...

Take a look at Kade Simpson, a weed running around getting 30+ possies every week.

What a useless topic..

Ah, shame about Matera I love watching him play. I also love watching campaigner go about it but I'm hoping he doesn't put too much hurt on this Saturday.

I'm not really worried about lack of physicality against GC, Crowley, McPhee, De boer, Clancee, Mayne etc are all plenty physical.

Ridiculous post by Sman frankly. Barlow and Mundy are also big bodied midfielders and won't be getting pushed around easily by teenagers

Not really the weight im worried about, its upperbody strength, which ofcourse should make them heavier.
Barlow an Mundy are tall midfielders.
Not much upper body strength.
Compare their upper body to Swallow, Coniglio, etc
Compare them to most teams midfielders and you will see they are lacking in upper body strength.

I also think Bennell has put on more upper body strength than Hill already.

Upperbody and core strength is needed to help push off opponents, hold tackles, shrug tackles etc etc.

Mark Thompson after having a close look at Essendon, said the main thing they need to do is bulk up.
They hit the weights hard in preseason and its improved them.

We wont be pushed around by GC, but considering their age i think we should be able to push them around, but due to the lack of weights work we wont be able to.

Thats why we needed to talk up the lack of respect, to get the players fired up and go in hard to teach them a lesson.

Most of Coniglio's upper body strength is in his hair.

You're right about Essendon, they hit the weights pretty hard. They now have a third of their starting 22 out with soft tissue injuries. Coincidence?

Dont think its coincidence.
Thinks its to do with their weights work.
They would of also been hitting weights hard with quads etc to help build core strength.

Wouldnt suprise me if all the weights work both lower and upper body is the cause.

Coud be due to poor warmup though.

Would love to see a forward come out and take a snipe at him.
Welcome to the real world, we put up with alot more hanging on,whacks in the head, chop of the arms etc all the time.
You midfielders have it so much easier its not funny.

Fans come to watch us play, take marks, kick goals etc, they dont want to see someone getting in our way.

Remember what i was saying about upper body strength etc.

Gold Coast look bigger and stronger than the majority of our players.
There also going in alot harder as there not worried about getting out muscled or hurt by bigger bodied opponents.

Cardiac muscle is the only one we're lacking today.
