We looked awful after half time, Ports pressure was very good and we just couldn't get any momentum.

I don't think we should read too much into tonight's performance, Port just wanted it more, this is like their grand final every year.

I still think we have made progress this year and we are heading in the right direction. We still have quite a bit of dead wood we need to move on, but the core is there of a good side. We just need to add more classy players this off season, and we need to do whatever we can to keep our first pick and draft the best mid available.
I beg to differ on the bolded. It was just the sort of game to show up the type of player we don't want in the side.

Connor Rozee: 34 disposals, 10 contested, 4 marks, 8 tackles, 5 clearances, 1 goal, 527m gained

Chayce Jones: 12 disposals, 8 contested, 2 marks, 2 tackles, 2 clearances, 310m gained
Ned McHenry: 11 disposals, 4 conested, 1 mark, 1 tackle, 239m gained

One of these men is an AFL footballer, two of them are not
One does play midfield, the other 2 play defense/wing and forward. The issue is why hasn't the other 2 developed to playing midfield.

bad

parnell
clearly cooked about 3 weeks ago.. shouldve been dropped back then.. will do well with another preseason.

murphy, mchenry, rowe, milera
what did they provide?.. NOTHING. so disappointing. as if the dogs would’ve been watching that thinking.. “yeah, we need that Rowe lad”..

Tex had a stinker

worse than bad

smith.. Just retire. its over, the game has passed you by. its getting embarrassing now.

hinge.. why were you giving up on contests and squibbing?.. its not like you.

diabolically bad.. just pure shit.

Ben Keays.. seriously I’ve been saying it for a long time now and coped a lot of flack in here for doing so.. but how can anyone continue to defend this useless spud I will never know. he’s up there as one of the worst foorballer’s in the league. GET RID OF HIM BEFORE HE DOES ANY MORE DAMAGE FFS.

good

not much. Fogs first half. some good grabs from TT. Soligo. berry. worrell.

ROB played a dominant game..

seasons over. get Rankine and try and grab some mature aged KP defenders from somewhere. Butts and Murray are bit of a worry.. then we need to target a classy mid next year to trade in. theres **** all available this year unfortunately.. hopper maybe..

Hopefully we can convince someone he is due to come good. (Like has been said his entire career)
After sticking with him for 2 missed years, and playing some good and some bad in first year back, he'd be at lowest possible value. I'd be hoping he comes back much better after a preseason, and would give him one more year.

I think he has about 4 more though.

**** me Smith, Milera, Rowe, Keays, McHenry just stunk it up so badly. Shred some contracts man come on.

Jones was shithouse and reminds us all that he is, and only ever will be, a D+ player. Top 10 pick wow. Should be enough to get Hamish the sack but then you add on Fischer and Ned and you wonder if there is a shred of accountability anywhere.

I'm encouraged by Worrell and the Fog continues to shine. Soligo makes me positively erect and I still have faith Schoey can become something.

Butts and Murray are two we need to keep coming on but it's clear we need another KPD.

ROB looks good on the stats sheet but given the opposition he SHOULD be getting those numbers. Still think he is a total liability in the modern game.

Berry continues to be tough, Laird and Dawson accumulate but the decision making was off.

A special place in purgatory can be reserved for Keays' legs. His supposedly favoured left is worse than most people's non-preferred.

Hinge and Doedee did some things within the same postcode of the footy. And then they also did a lot of things not in that same postcode.

Murphy was. Parnell was. Well they were all named to play.

Davis came on and go into out top 10 players such was our woe.

Lastly, i believe, are Thilthorpe and Tex. Great to see some contested marking. Again, gives me hope for the future re: TT. I think Tex's back half of the season has coincided with the rise of Fog but with TT coming on I think 2023 needs to see Tex playing 40-60% of games or move him up to a wing considering the coaches won'tlet Dawson go there ever.. Give those two time to work together. TT second ruck.

Lose Obrien, Keays, McHenry, Rowe and see how we go. We could find a serviceable tap ruckman on the cheap.

Very few positives but here they are
  • Fog has 100% arrived
  • Soligo an absolute steal and well done to the selectors for playing him most of the year
  • Berry continuing to show he will be a beast, loves the hard stuff, keeps his feet
  • TT taking some strong pack marks
  • Worrell and Parnell will benefit from the experience
  • Rachelle and McAdam missing
  • Davis looks really decent every time he gets a chance, shame they didn’t back him in 5 years ago

Concerns
  • Butts decision making
  • Smiths decline

Ugly
  • McHenry, Murphy, Rowe
  • Keays
  • The variability in Jones best and worst - he needs to join that self confidence training that Fog and TT are doing - I mean why didn’t he have a shot from 50 that time - he can kick it easy and he is a beautiful long kick, didn’t even consider it

Smith is a terrible leader, it blows my mind he's in our leadership group let alone has ever been named captain. Provides absolutely nothing to help other players and has had a putrid year so he's just offering nothing at all

Does Nicks have any other game plan other than playing down the wing?

It's like under 12s footy, kick down the boundary, knock the ball out of bounds and create a stoppage.

It's so predictable even Brereton was talking about it during the game how we avoid the middle and force it wide along the wing.

Hamish Ogilvie has a lot to answer for.

We are in this position from him making
Gallucci
Jones
McHenry
McCasey

First round draft picks.

None of these guys had outstanding attributes in their draft bios and I suspect that all the phantom draft experts only included some of these guys in first round prediction calculations as they get wind we are into them.

Doubt any other club makes these guys first round draftees.

Insert Rankine and Rachele plus the Pedlar which played today, remove Rowe, Murphy and McHenry.

Looks a better side.

Be keen to see how Milera is physically after this preseason. He has skill and sees the game well. But his body has been like a 34 year old for most of this year.

If Brennan Cox is gettable, get him. Although I think Butts and Murray could still be good after they mature. They are still young.

RoB, what can we do? Grundy is expensive and too old. No guarantee Grundy is physically better anyway. Strachan is not the answer and Thilthorpe not ready in 2023 (or 2024) to lead Ruck.

What proof is there that Milera “sees the game well”? Skill? Maybe, but I never get the sense he sees the game, mostly because for long stretches of almost every game you don’t see him at all.

Moving around the stadium tonight on the Eastern side was a bloody nightmare, could barely move, even toilet lines a mile long

We avoid the attacking kick through the middle because our skills are ****ing shithouse. Apart from Dawson I can’t think of one player id trust to hit a target in the corridor without ****ing it up.

Jones and McAsey both had elite attributes in their bios and were drafted in positions most expected, stop rewriting history to suit a narrative. Galucci was the only genuine reach that came from nowhere.

I’ve given up hoping, tbh. Love him to prove me wrong, but I just don’t see it. Never has ever taken the game on.

Jones and McAsey both went earlier than they were in most phantoms but were late firsts. Gallucci was inconsistent in juniors, and McHenry was a 2nd rounder. How many more busts before there is any accountability...

I suspect age is the only reason he is a "leader". Have never seen any leadership qualities watching our games live during his career.

He never directs positioning, does not have a "voice" out there at all.

Yes he was an elite HB. Has had a great career. Not all great players are leaders. He is one who was great at his role and being that cog. A vital cog in the 2015 to 2017 GF push. But I don't think he sees the bigger picture in the game. Hence he could never transition to midfield.

Like Laird did.

List is by far the biggest issue, 10x bigger issue than gameplan or coaching personel. Keays is also the least of our issues, works hard and pressure was good, obviously lacks polish. Milera, Jones, McHenry, Rowe, Parnell I dont see a future for. Shoenberg shows signs but is well behind what a 3rd year mid should be producing. Brodie has 2 more years, loved what hes done for the club but hes regressed so much. The more I watch Riley the more I see him as a Grundy type ruckman. We need a Key forward.

Kicking was abysmal all game, just terrible. Few kids going alright which at least is some hope for the future.
Smith has 2 more years? **** me. He's not best 22 any more already
