25 for 32 and 34? Or 32 and next years second?

By the reports tonight Geelong are keen to move up.

Think we are more likely to trade those picks for the Dogs pick that’s slightly higher if we trade at all. I imagine we will do it on the night depending on how the players fall or not at all if we can avoid it.

I think the Cats will likely package up two of their second rounders for either one of Brisbane's firsts or GWS' pick 13.

Gws wont trade down because those picks will get swallowed by a fahey bid. And i doubt brisbane will trade down unless it involves future picks as they want more points next year. But we will try to trade up.

Ahhhh... So The local Pub talk last night.
Picks 14/18 & 16 are all very gettable with what we have to offer.
Brisbane & Sydney will be the target.
FWIW the names that were mentioned, on more than one occasion was.
Jacob VAN ROOYEN & Marcus WINDHAGER.
Interesting night with a lot of talk of the players coaches and the club as a whole.
Going to be an interesting draft night.

How early is the Fahey bid likely to come? He looked very good in the academy game v Geelong VFL.

I would say late 1st (obviously gws hope he wont get bid in before 13 and they would plan to live trade that pick out if he does) to mid second round 15-30 is where he gets bid no later than 30 i reckon.

Pub talk.... I heard....
Your first three picks for our first two - 16+31 for 22+30+32. Swans will flip 32+39 to the Dogs for 23 and take 22, 23 and 30 to the draft. You could offer more to the Dogs but aren't prepared to make the call before the draft shakes out a bit, we're happy to offer the deal before the draft.

F1 + F2 + Pick 44 for pick 24 and F1?

Dont really see the value in that for either side. Too risky for essendon and geelong probably want to use 24 themselves given the talent still on the board.

What about F1 for pick 24 + F2

I dont like that as much

It has to be a risky move by dons to make the cats move

Dons would be interested in the M.Johnson, Sonsie, Goater, Howes S.Butler group

We might be better off waiting till after your picks as one seems to be a Geelong boy or Conway

We would have to massively rate whoever is there at pick 24 not to do that. Essendon had a good year but some bad form or injuries to the wrong players and that could be a pick well inside the top 10. I seriously doubt Essendon offers that though.
Id say Geelong would see it as pick 10 regardless and could be huge upside

Id prefer to do
F1 (Ess) F2 (Ess) pick 44
For
F1 (Geel) + pick 24/25

Cats right now fully believe they can win the flag next year

Picks 24, 25, 33 & 43 as it currently stands.

List sits at 33-2-1.

Do you guys take all 4 selections, or just 3 to get to 36 on senior list - and then look to take 4 rookies on Friday & SSP?

Not sure on your current salary cap status, but wouldve thought given the position of the playing list, the salary cap relief of the 36-6 list structure would be a priority.

Can see you taking 3 ND selections and up to 4 rookies.

ND
24 - Goater
25 - Butler
33 - MacDonald

Trade 43 for future picks

Rookies
- Jai Serong
- Matt Ling
- Blake Schlensog
- ???

I'm hoping we go all in on this draft and try to trade 32 and a future up to 21/22 and get 3 gun mids to carry the mid spots over the next decade!

3 of Johnson, Sonsie, Goater, Taylor and Macdonald in that order of priority would be the ideal!
Use 43 as it stands, given availability, on either a ruck Conway or KD in Bazzo, Dean, Oscar Morrison, Baker Smith, Will Splann

Our MO is to fill the senior list. We already have players on multi year deals on the rookie list for the cap so I'd expect we will pick out. 43 is a good pick for us, couldn't see them wasting it.

We actually have room to take up to 5 ND picks tonight but we probably wont use 88 (even though itll be 60ish). Atkins and close are contracted to 2023 on rookie list but we might elevate one and only use 4 picks. Or we could use futures to trade into an extra pick in R3 tonight and take 5 picks.

I suspect the reason we were happy to upgrade our pick, is because we'll take Schlensog with that Pick 88, IMO. Won't make it through the roomie draft, but if he's still available at that pick - I'd say we end up using it and upgrade both Close and Atkins next year (as I suspect we won't be using too many picks - as we'll be trying to trade up to ensure we get Jhye Clark)
