i think that bannock on their day are probably the best side in the comp but their problem is consistency, to beat east by 7 goals but then to have loss to north as well just shows that they are beatable any day by any team, the only worrying thing is if they are on their game they can punish, my tip is east as well i think they are not just good but very intimidating and can scare the odd player, and i agree too that belmont will not take to the big ground very well and could be out very quickly.
i don't agree with this at all. east are a very skillful team who play the ball.

What are the strengths of the finals sides

Belmont ?
Bannock ?
East ?
BPH ?
Thompson ?

Bel- Organised backline, self belief.
Bann- Speed and youth/enthusiasim
East- Get numbers behind the ball and use the footy well
BPH- Talls, if used right can cause major headaches
Thom- Experience during finals, and some good marking fwds

East - forward power. A forwrard line consisting of Skrobolak, Oleary, Ohara, Coy, Moelands will be hard to match up on the large expanses
Bannock - onball brigade who feed the best forward in the comp in Mullane Grant. If they fire on ball then he will kick a bag
BPH - big boys who can catch it and a proven big gamer in Lewis. He might be the nastiest player in the league but he gets the job done finals time
Thomson - Finals experience
Belmont - Haami and the fact they have nothing to loose

it's not rocket science but it's pretty important to win the toss at st.albans and kick with the wind (Buckley's end) in the first quarter. it's always windy during finals at this ground but usually the wind dies a fair bit towards the end of the game.

I agree, I recall seeing Aaron Broom win the toss last year and kicked against the breeze. Fatal mistake!!

i'll take you back to the 2001 grand final when werribee centrals won the toss and kicked with the breeze in the first quarter. werribee banged on 9 goals to 0 in the opening term. the game was all over at 1/4 time. Bannockburn went into the game undefeated and red hot favourites. it's amazing what momentum can do in a big final.

I see Mick Carrol is named for East Geelong for tomorrows game. He had an interesting incounter with the Bannockburn boys last time.

Watch Out Bannockburn this guy is a fruit loop

Seriously why on earth would he want to go back to Corio?

rumours floating around about corio have alot of truths to them. I hear the club is financially strong again .The rumors about ricky stewey manno and you forgot fergi and bruhn have alot of truth to it, so my spys say? what ive been told everyone will be signed by the end of october, oh yeah you forgot about rick lazerich and cory collins back from anakie, theve got a major sponsor that wants them all back and back on top again throwing heaps into club next three years. So we have to wait to see what truths are in this rumour only time will tell, but my soarse if pretty well imformed.

Saw the East v Bannockburn game on Saturday. Was even early, then the Gibbs boys lost the plot in the 2nd quarter. Very undisciplined, and East took over, Skroba kicked 4 in the quarter, and Bannockburn turned into rabble from there. East looked good, should be a good game next week.

Well the dream of carcking it for three flags in a row for the Thompson Football Club is all over after going down to Bell Post Hill yesterday.

Werribee Centrals were the last club to win three in a row (1999-2001). With Thompson gone now I think it will be a long time before a team in the GDFL gets another crack at achieving this.

I watched both games over the weekend, and had the pleasure of seeing two brilliant individual performances in Chamberlian and Lewis, N. Both players really showed the footballing public how to play finals football.

lewis's performance yesterday not just as player but as leader was unbelievable anyone who heard his three quarter time address would know what he said and how inspirational it was to the team

massive game this week banno v bph winner of that massive chance to play grand final because i still think belmont will struggle

What's happened to Bannockburn?

BPH will fancy themselves this weekend.

It could be a BHP and East Grandfinal :thumbsu:

Someone better tell Belmont about this plan 'cos they could not be happier than to be playing east... They match up very well with them. East have an outstanding forward line and Belmonts backs are very solid. I think Belmont forwards with Tate and Canavan are better than what east have got down back, But can Belmont match East's onballers? I can't wait :D

I think Bannockburn thought the same thing. I watched you play East at your ground and your backs only just help the East forwards that day. I think the bigger ground will find out your backs.

East Geelong seemed to work very well all over the Ground last week.
Very impressed and i just hope they go on with it.

Firstly congrats to Haami...a popular win at an enjoyable evening...well done GDFL...however player progressive votes besides their names as they polled may have been better than the small board down the bottom that no one beyond the front row could see.

This week...well Belmont has to alter the course of history...never played in a GDFL Div One GF (did they even play in a Div 2 one- St.Bernard's might have...not sure about as East)

East Geelong are also working against history...haven't won the main prize since 1973 (yes I know, they won the 1993 Div 2 flag...but for crying out loud St.Leonards made the finals that year)

Somebody said shutdown Haami and Suburbs' wins...not sure it's that simple, but it will help...and John Tate will be looking for a big one.

Bell Post Hill and Bannockburn's the interesting one...the Panthers will have plenty of confidence, while Pilgrim and Gibbs will be keen for the black and gold tigers to put last week behind them.

Tarr, Hemley and Lewis the keys...will Broom go head to head with Nathan.
Who gets TMG? What about Woods...can he be influential on a wing?

Bowyer's experience

Will Ron Watt line-up for the Tigers...will he be back in time from Brisbane...is he required with geelong's VFL side...45 possessions and BOG in the two's has the Golden Plains boys with some selection quandries.

Good luck to all four sides...will be great to see an East (current or former) into the big one.

Hemley doesnt look like he could be unstoppable in anything bar a hot dog eating contest.

Maybe the tigers learnt something from there flogging on the weekend.
BPH didnt look convincing on Sunday although lewis speak at 3/4 time was fantastic.
