As I read on here somewhere - it really is becoming Auskick for adults.

You already have:
  • Nominated rucks
  • Can't talk back to umpires
  • Players quite literally being told where to stand
  • Coaches now told they can't comment at all about umpires or even stand in certain areas
And now - give it time - no tackling.
All at a time when the umpiring is at an all time low.

I find many decisions or non-decisions bewildering at best

From my phone hohum

The more umpires the greater inconsistency. I'm not sure how anybody, inc the AFL couldn't determine that for themselves.

Well, Dawson does throw himself forward in an attempt to draw the free. There's your second movement. Close doesn't cause it or contribute to it, he just hangs on for the ride.

Which pretty much describes a lot of "in the back" frees as well, the tackler simply getting dragged down by the played being tackled going to ground.

This is the worst citing I have seen and should be challenged. Its gone too far. The inches between a great tackle and a dangerous tackle makes it impossible for a player to tackle hard. I agree with sling tackles being outlawed as I did with chicken wing tackles. An in the back is basically a week on current trend.

Sorry to intrude, but wanted to have a gawk at the reaction to Close's suspension.
I can't believe he was cited let alone suspended. I hope you guys appeal and win, it will set a precedent for other tackles through the season.
I came in to say exactly what Generalissimo has said. Dawson is listed as 20kg heavier. Maybe he dropped his knees in an effort to make it look like a dangerous tackle when I and probably most here, didn't see it as dangerous.
I really hope you guys appeal and win.

Big call with the number of players we' have missing, I still expect us to get the points but I'll be happy with a win of any margin, ten goals and I'll be over the moon.

Won't matter. Still have far too much experience, bigger bodies and nous.

They aren't going to come close to kicking enough goals while Lynch is out. Riewoldt is game but he's just about done. Cotchin is definitely done and because like all clubs they think milestones matter they'll bring him back.

How might this incident have played out if:

1. the officiating umpires had actually paid some of the numerous HTB free kicks that should have been paid against the Crows earlier in the game; and

2. umpires across the league weren't continually sucked in by tackled players lurching forward to draw a fake push in the back free kick?

IMHO that might have meant Close didn't feel like he had to tackle for keeps because a good tackle would be rewarded, and Dawson wouldn't have tried to throw himself forward to draw a free kick and instead focused on safely going to ground.

Would like to thank the *heads at fox footy for basically saying "will they look at this" then basically following it with "so Close will get a week".

We better challenge it. This is absolutely not a dangerous tackle and barely a free kick and so far Jonathan Brown is the only media person I've seen come out and say "Close didn't sling, didn't double motion, and the Crows players momentum took him forward."

This has a bit of the Duncan bump feel to it. It wasn't a free kick or suspension but the * heads in the afl media need stories for the news cycles.
Close looked surprised at the time that he gave away a free kick and I agree with him.
The minute the umpires pay a free kick for a dangerous tackle it would automatically get looked at.
People on here are acting like Close is the only person to get suspended this season for a tackle like this.
In fact about 2 players per week are getting done

Hope you're right, and under normal circumstances we should beat them comfortably, but there has to be a point where you can't adequately cover for missing players, and eight of our starting twenty two missing has us at breaking point you'd think.
As I said, I think we can get the job done (would help if Close gets his ban overturned) but it won't be a stroll in the park IMO.

Can someone enlighten me to when it changed you don’t have a larger suspension added if your challenge fails?
I like it this way personally but not sure when it changed.

Just imagine the comments if he actually gets off, apparently we’re already protected.
Imagine if he gets off the week we play Richmond
My god

Heads will explode by the sheer force of incomprehension

Two players a week for dangerous tackles but I don’t recall seeing one like this which is not a sling tackle or two clear motions. This is breaking new ground if I’m not mistaken.
