Geelong to go undefeated for the rest of 2024??

If Geelong kicked that badly two weeks ago Carlton win by 10 goals.

Look foward to the rematch later this year.. especially if Jeremy Cameron still has forgotten how to football.

And if the umpires didn’t have their eyes painted on at gather round Carlton would have lost four of their last five games in addition to winning their first two by less than a kick so maybe settle for what you’ve got. Very sorry once more that last week the team you played against managed to do what footballers aim to do and kicked goals and 8 days later you are still struggling with it.

It’s been 14 hours and Cats fans are over their defeat.

Delusion is a hell of drug.

It's nice to see the underdog battler in Carlton give the heavyweights a run for their money. It's like watching St Kilda back in the day.

The supporters should be proud of their efforts, don't worry about what the real clubs are doing, that'll sort itself out.

You can't win a flag with that midfield.
We're in an in-between phase, it's only natural we're going to have a flaw somewhere.

Conway, Bruhn, Clark, & Holmes are the ones we're building it around...but they're 2-3 years away from being able to do it by themselves.

Stanley is Stanley, Atkins is an honest trier, while Bowes has looked really promising, but ideally the 3rd or 4th mid in a premiership side.

Guthrie is the big one, and if he can reach his best form again, it changes the complexion of that group completely...albeit one would think we're still a month away on that front.

Danger has been virtually a non-factor in H&A seasons since the syndesmosis in '21.

Even if when he's been healthy, it's been about managing him for the business end.

All we can do is tinker and manage the group until September (hence the low TOG for all of them) and hope for the best, while likely bringing in another gun mid this off-season.

Probably not and it stands to be an issue for us. But what we went in with against Melbourne isn't our best set up either. Dangerfield, Parfitt and O'Connor will make us better. Leaving Parfitt and O'Connor out for this match against Melbourne was ignorant and stupid of us.

Parfitt was probably due for a spell. He probably wasn’t expected - or expecting - to be as much a part of our team as what he has been, he’s busted himself especially defensively for us each week

Carlton won’t make the 8.
But they’re in the 8 and were when we beat them. Your question was, “Will Geelong beat a top 8 side in 2024”.

And BTW, they will make the 8.

We can't beat a team in the 8....unless we do beat a team in the 8.

Then it doesn't count. Or only counts for half. Or something....

At the rate they’re going atm, they’ll be well outside in a couple of weeks and they don’t have the softest draw in the comp like Geelong.

We’ll see come seasons end if the Cats have beaten any team that makes the 8. Geelong will be one of those side as they’ve got double ups against the bottom 6…

Counting a team in the 8 in early rounds means nothing as the top 8 is entirely based on how soft the early draw is. If North beat West Coast Rd 1 and you played them Rd 2, would that have counted as beating a top 8 side?

Seeing if a team beats any top 8 sides at seasons end is a good indicator of their performance or just a soft draw.

The only sides reigning premiers Collingwood have beaten that sit inside the top 8 are Carlton (don't count) and Port (equal on the ladder with Carlton who don't count, therefore don't count).

I agree. Geelong have massively overachieved so far this season. It just can’t see Geelong getting anywhere near the premiership despite their fast start. It’s still a while before Collingwood and Geelong play but even if Geelong are close to the top by then, the result of the game would be similar to the 2008 one between the two teams.

Mate what’s your point. Honestly.

We play 9 games at home. We host 2 teams a year on their own home ground.

For the best part of 20 years we have had in perpetuity one of the toughest draws in the competition because that’s how it works: finish high, draw hard.

What should we do. Seriously. What should we do. We have beaten everyone we played up until last night and we lost by a kick and a half to a team likely to finish in the top four on their home deck.

do we ask the afl to re-do the draw? Do we ask them to rescind the results?
We play who we play same as everyone.

We are going to play every team in the comp and we are going to play a good portion of the theoretical better ones away from KP and that’s how it is, it has been forever.

I was thinking more 2007, 2009, 2011, 2020, or 2022.

But sure, let's pick the outlier because the mighty pies are (checks notes) 9th!!

Geelong didn't kick badly because Carlton's defensive pressure was absent.

If Melbourne had have taken care of the defensive side of things for Carlton last week whilst Carton chased kicks then yes they would have won by a lot.

If we manage to fall upwards into finals there's not a team Geelong would want more than their Collingwood Bunnies/Magpies. A freer premiership there is not.

It's going to be tough. Pies can only get as high as 4th after their poor start one would think.

Just going to have to finish on top I suppose, and walk into a prelim at their expense yet again.

Let them have the H&A win though, it's only fair.

You should have framed your original question differently
