Geelong - Too old, too slow?

Absolutely. It took 12 years for people to be right.

After being there live last year I no longer care.
14 years actually as people started writing us off in the back end of 2009 home and away season.
I'm confident we'll bounce back much sooner than people think, and opposition supporters hoping we'll spend years out of the finals like Hawthorn have are in for disappointment.

You Geelong customers don't realize how big of an impact there is with such a large list turnover.

Won't happen anyway. Chris Scott will want to keep most of the list together and you'll go with top ups again. I fully expect your club to target Brodie Grundy :)

Don't want to be all arrogant about it, we may be down for ages, but history shows we're never down for long. At this point I just hope we're on the right track.

Cats have 4 flags since 2007. If I were a Cats fan I'd be pretty happy with that even if they didn't win another for 20 years.
As for eagles ...

No disrespect to you, as you are a decent poster.

Yes eagles are never down for long. However, this eagles rebuild will take a while.

Eagles longest stint if finals is 3 years. That's 2008-10 and this current one of 2021-23. I would be shocked if eagles make finals in 2024 or 2025.

Cats had their run. It was a good run

Oh yeah realistically we're another 3 years away at least. It'll be a strange feeling, but as long as we are really rebuilding I can live with that.

Will Hawkins go around for another year?
He still has the ability, but the cliff will surely come next year and he’d have to be questioning why he’d be doing it with no success on the horizon.

Yes another season
Last game at home might be seen as a nice time to call it a day for some other players
Smith has already announced his retirement.
Touhy, possibly Rohan could call it time.
If he has some things lined up post career, Dangerfield may be the surprise call

Is he keeping any tall forward out of the team?
That’s probably the kicker. I’m not aware of any young talls coming through for you guys?

Blicavs, Stanley, Rohan, danger, Hawkins should all pull the pin if they don't want to end up like the eagles.

The last time that Geelong had Win Percentage under 50% after 22 matches played was in 2006. Any 'old-timers' here might remember what happened in 2007.
From 2004 it's been:

20 years where the longest sequence of failing to make a grand final is 8 seasons, failing to make a preliminary final is two seasons and failing to make finals is one season.

It can't last forever but gravity has been denied for a while.

Could’ve still made finals if they had a captain like Selwood. He was one of the best captains competition-wide for a reason. Dangerfield’s leadership is nowhere near his, which is why he failed to inspire them enough.

Perhaps they should consider another captain for next year. Maybe someone like Stewart.

I'd say Hawkins definitely will go again.

Although he's one of the oldest (now that Smith has retired he might be the oldest), his decline hasn't been as pronounced as others. Plus, there's still no replacement anywhere near ready. I can't see any chance at all that a lot of veterans step away or are pushed at once. It'll be 2-3 names at most I would think. The same the next year and so on.

We've got 6 or so solid years of rebuilding so captaincy at the moment is irrelevant.

When we're ready to contend again Clark will be captain.

Oh yeah Clark. I just realised that I haven’t heard much about him this year. Genuinely curious, how’s he tracking for Geelong?
