Oh FFS. You're wrong, Geelong went into today's game with an average 89.2 matches experience, Collingwood against Melbourne had 94.7 avg games experience. Do some research before you shoot your mouth off, clown.

Thanks for the thought Jeff, unfortunately you're mainly going to get shit like this.

I like people talking about all of Geelongs outs; even with all those outs they still averages over 25 games more per player than the Crows. Adelaide had 6 players today over 100 games, 12 under 50; mind you... we are rubbish at the moment.

You'd be a lot better if your best player was allowed to play on the ball instead of sitting in the forward line while the game slips away in the first half.

Got to give a big thumbs up to the coach team in regards to youth development down at Kardinia Park. We built a brilliant team off good luck with father/sons and good drafting in 1999, 2000 & 2001. Consequently the team having been in premiership contention since 2004 (2006 the anomaly) hasn't had access to many quality draft picks.

We've also had some bad luck:
- We lost an AA CHB (Egan) to an unfortunate career ending injury.
- We couldn't match the Salary offered by Sydney for Mumford.
- Laidler left to Carlton for more opportunity
- Then there was Ablett

Despite this Menzel, Duncan and Taylor Hunt have developed into regulars this season. Vardy & Christenson have impressed as well from limited opportunity. Motlop, Brown, Guthrie, Simpson & Cowan have made at least one appearance each this season and not one has looked out of place. All this and we've still got our 1st pick (Smedts) on the long term injury list (was drafted injured) and a compensation pick in the bank.

I'm very proud of what Geelong's achieved. Seem to be doing a lot right.

This week though I thought was remarkable

The outs:
Kelly, Bartel, Selwood, Ottens, Milburn, Stokes, Hunt, Vardy

The ins:
Christenson, Duncan, Motlop, Simpson, Gillies, Brown, Byrnes (1st game this season)

Collingwood won by a greater margain against Melbourne on QB with a far less experienced side than Geelong fielded today.

Did they? Depends how you look at it I guess.

Geelong had 7 players eligible for Rising Star playing today - Collingwood have had one all year....

- As well as Mumford, there were other talented young players on our list we were unable to keep: Scott Thompson (Kang) and Brent Prismall are obvious examples.
- We lost Nathan Ablett to apathy just when he'd become a consistent forward and had to find a replacement
- We lost assistant coaches left right and centre as other clubs sought the secret of our success
- In at least two years, our previous senior coach lost his way ('06 and '10) but the club was resilient enough to rebound.

Are we lucky? You bet. We're a traditional team that hasn't abandoned its town to become a franchise. We are Geelong. :)

- Scott Thompson was never on our list. Only played for our VFL team.
- Prismall we didn't want to lose but it turned out to be a blessing
- Losing Nathan Ablett was also a blessing IMO
- Fair call regarding coaches we've lost Bomber, Tudor, McCarthey, & Hinkley in the last 3 years. All good coaches.

If Collingwood win another flag (or two) get four years down the road and win a game without:

Jolly, Brown, Swan, Daisy, Pendles, HarryO, etc etc. by almost 10 goals I will give them the big thumbs up! :thumbsu: Until that day, **** OFF!

The point is we have completely defied what is considered the norm of the AFL, the cyclical movement up and down the ladder. We havent finished bottom 4, we didnt get given an extra $600,000+ to spend on players, we didnt have a draft pick greater than 7, we had the AFL (yes the ****ing AFL) steal our best player, yet have managed to win two flags, play in finals for the best part of a decade, dominate the comp for 4 years and become one of the strongest off field clubs.

I dont think supporters from other teams have any idea how rare this is, especially considering the rules and regulations of the national comp. This is not a state league in 1954, this is the AFL in 2010!

If you want a look at how hard it is, 2 of our biggest rivals of the last 4 years are shot to hell (Dogs snd Saints), whilst the Hawks are only just coming back from 2 years as a complete non event.

What he said.

Love your work Doris. :thumbsu:

dangerfield has been terribly inconsitent. if there werent so many passengers he would be very close to being dropped.

Which is why he should come home to a welcoming environment ;)

Just looking at that list of players posted by tima, whats happened to Guthrie? Thought he was very good in Round One against the Saints and can't really remember in Round Two for some reason. Obviously can't expect him to be getting games ahead of Geelong's other young guns, but I'm just surprised that we haven't seen him since.

So that automatically disqualifies the OP from praising Geelong in a post that made no mention of Collingwood?

Got it

He's going alright and I'd expect him to play a couple more games this season. I think his decision making is first rate and expect him to have a big push next season at becoming a regular.

People will just NEVER give this Geelong team the credit it deserves. They beat quality teams & it's apparently due to umpiring decisions or "luck".

Then we SMASH a poor side without 40% of our best 22, and apparently it's just average, not impressive at all because it's just expected?

Do people not understand just how good Selwood, Bartel & Kelly are? Not to mention playing without BOTH our ruckmen?

This was a great win. Christensen is gonna be a STAR.

Fair point OP.

Geelong are 13 zip while playing young and inexperienced players fairly regularly this season, this weekend being an extreme example. They are winning and building for the future at once, so its excellent news for Geelong fans. Just don't expect the media to talk about that (Geelong are boring now, as they have been up so long they aren't news worthy), and don't expect your views to get a serious airing on a rabid forum like this.

Don't you know that it is only Collingwood whose list has depth and who have talented young players?

Now who was that Hawk Dork that started a thread earlier this year saying Scott was doing nothing different and he wasn't playing kids as he said he would?

You can play all the kids that you want, but if they aren't any good then what is the point?

The best part of that list is that all of them really look like they can play.
