Just in case some folk don't keep their eye on the membership numbers thread - if you're a P2 member and are keen to upgrade, apparently there are some P1 memberships that are available. Just upgraded back to gold after a season off.

It's tied to salary and length of contract isn't it?
Not so sure how it works. Frawley was pick 3, Thomas pick 11 and Franklin pick 19. Contract size and length don't seem to be a factor when all get a first round pick despite one contract being roughly 2.2mil over 3 years, one being 2.4mill over the same period and the other being 10mill over 9 years....

I got the call, but I'm going to be overseas for most of the season so I've gone back onto the waiting list :)

So, how's about all them other AFL clubs, eh?

What's up with them?!

Spoke to an adviser yesterday - the only North fan I have ever met in the flesh, said that he was bullish on them this year and predicts top 4. And now you see why the government is trying to increase educational requirements for financial advisers.

I have a good friend who is a North fan...but he's highly educated, and extremely realistic; always good to engage in a bit of North 'what were they thinking?' type banter. I'll ask him what he thinks when we're out on Friday, he might say 'finals at best', I'd reckon

North is a total disaster.

The realistic North fans all realise that they had a major miss over the last 5 years. Bad luck, but it happens. Just like the Saints before them, they'll hit the bottom and then start making their trudge up the ladder all over again.

Hawthorn
Luke Breust - Restricted (9 years)
Shaun Burgoyne - Restricted (8 years)
Taylor Duryea - Restricted (8 years)
Josh Gibson - Restricted (8 years)
Ryan Schoenmakers - Restricted (9 years)

From the RFA thread
If true aren't these in the top 25% paid? That's probably ten players

Who are the other 5? I'm thinking the top ten paid would be:

Roughead. Hodge Rioli. Gunston Frawley Mitchell Omeara smith Burgoyne Gibson

I suppose that's just duryea and schoey. Not really in the top ten. Loading of contracts maybe?

Am I alone in thinking that David Warner is not that good?
He hits out, throws his bat at everything, plays all his fancy, between-the-legs shots and looks great, but as soon as the pressure is on, he's in trouble, and makes excuses by saying that's just the way I play.

David Warner has not won anything of note, and the bowlers who have beaten him recently have not been topliners.

Back on topic: North are perpetual losers...

Between the legs shots in cricket may be hazardous!
But I don't disagree with the rest.

Back to topic: North's last era was based solely on Wayne Carey: without him, they would never have had that run in the 1990's.
And the irony is that Wayne Carey was their greatest player and brought them huge success, and then destroyed them from within for his own selfish reasons.

Just like James Hird and Essendon!

Key thing to remember is that the 'top 25% highest paid' clause only applies to the year they come out of contract. So a players salary in that year could be in the top 25% but on average they might only be outside of it. This would be the opposite of Melbourne with Frawley who would have been on average within the top 25%, but with a front loaded contract his final year had him out the top 25%.

So if you had all your senior players on the same salary, they'd all be restricted free agents? :p In fact if everyone from outside the top 24% of your players were on the same salary, everyone would be RFA...

Yep

Can I quickly say that I hope everyone who posts here, along with your family and friends, have been untouched by today's tragedy in the city. And if you have been I hope you and you family gain the strength to cope.

I was where it all began a few minutes before it began. Phew
