My $0.02 - if you are deemed to have been involved in any 'careless' grading incident in a preliminary then any sanction should be suspended until round 1, but the sanction doubled. Players who haven't gone out of their way to take someone out of the game can then still get the sanction they deserve but will not miss out on a grand final for a minor incident.

Forgot to mention as I was reveling in the defeat of the Cats at the time - Carey's little jibes at BT during the fourth quarter about captaincy and saying something along the lines of 'well only those who have captained would know' to BT. Much as I hate BT - I would have respected him infinitely if he'd hit back at Carey saying at least he'd never slept with his team mate, and real life mate's wife. Carey getting on his high horse about anything is hard to stomach.

I mean, I knew that Cotchin wasn't going to miss for this - the problem is the MRPs consistency. He should have missed and he would have missed at any point through the year, but there's always been a different set of rules through the finals.
Has there been any similar instances where a player has missed this year?
Not being a smart ass, but when I saw the incident in real time it didn’t even cross my mind that he would be in trouble, then looking at the picks after the game I felt even more confident he would be fine. He clearly went hard at the ball, not the man.
That said, I did think that Ellis would be in trouble.

The MRP statement is absolutely correct. Cotchin did not deserve any kind of sanction for this incident at any point of the year.
Cotchin moves down low and braces for contact as Shiel approaches to pick up the ball. It was the view of the panel that Cotchin was seeking to win possession as his line of direction was always towards the ball and not his opponent. The panel determined that Cotchin was seeking to contest the ball and therefore contact was not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
Sloane is free to play so why not

Anything that is not 'intentional' should see time served from Round 1.
Anything on that stupid '3 strikes' policy should also see time served from Round 1.
For intentional, including jumper punching, you miss out.

No malice in the bumps at all, Im glad even if it's only for finals they take this reasoning, that if they didnt set out for the body and were just simply trying to win the ball, didnt obviously collect them high, it's fine and unfortunate

I wonder if this was Toby Green would the same result have occurred?
Although Hodge clearly had both arms stretched reaching for the ball.

and this is where the difference is, Cotchin didn't have arms out stretched for the ball and were in fact tucked in more so to make contact first, only after contact does he proceed to collect the ball.
I might be on my lonesome on this but that's how I see it, should have gone.
