Jeff Browne and the Filth still don't get it

Pathetic, juvenile, sexist crap.

Why do Collingwood keep appointing these Ted Bullpitt type of throwback as club president anyway ???

well done, rendell on guessen, feels the need to name an umpire for making a couple of mistakes, "we know him now" he says - at what stage does a football opinion person take some accountability and responsibility for adding to the umpire abuse and negativity? pathetic coward........

Who was the umpire he was referring to? Asking for a friend….

What an arseh*le. And imagine cracking a joke like that and name dropping Jordan De Goey as part of it, even Collingwood people know that De Goey is a shit person and they don’t try to hide it.

he isnt seceretly a carlton supporter on our gameday threads is he?

Could probably start a thread on this, but I find some of the reasons why crowds have declined this year really strange

People stating umpiring and or the rules as reasons they have stopped going to a game is next level bizarre
Think it's just a hangover from the previous two years. People have got used to staying at home. It's not just footy.

I would be surprised if people arent going to the footy due to the umpiring or the rules of the game.

I suspect there are a number of reasons why crowds are down including post Covid reluctance to be involved with crowds, cost of admission and food, scheduled times of matches (twilight and Sundays just dont seem popular) and probably a few others.

Probably would be an interesting topic to start a thread on :thumbsu:

Ive been to one game this year (hawks game), got a few reasons why i havent been going:
1. CBF'd half the time, ill just watch it on tv
2. I used to go to every game as a kid/teenager then stopped going when i played footy on a saturday for about 15 years. Only the last few years ive been to a couple of games each year - have lost a lot of interest in going to the footy, not the same as it once was - sitting up in the gods when half the stand is empty, cant hear myself think let alone talk to someone in the breaks due to the loud speakers playing shit, cbf'd with the trip in which takes about 45m-1hr each way
3. The wife will want to come and bring the kids, all 3 of them hate footy so just makes it not worth it.....🤦‍♂️ (does my head in she insists on coming and then they complain how bored they are.....)
4. CBF'd organising the ticket, took me about 3 different attempts to get the tickets for the game i went to - seriously, give me my membership card and let me scan in...
5. Been away for quite a few games this year
6. The AFL as a whole just shits me, money driven assholes who dont give a shit about the fans (even though they say they do, laughable)

I think these cover most of the reasons as to why crowd numbers decline

For me, the major reasons would be covered by 2 standout reasons

  • Cost of games, food/drink, transport
  • Time poor (Travel time to a from the ground, family/personal commitments)
I travel a fair bit and I could coincide that travel with games no matter where they are, but I get to the point that I just can't be bothered going to as many games, when I can sit back as the game is about to start, pause (rarely) the coverage at any point to get a drink/food/toilet without missing a moment. I then spend 2 hours of enjoyment, rather than doubling that as a minimum adding travel time

Nothing like the vibe of being at a game, but for many, things have changed

If the AFL are serious about getting people back to the game, add value in every aspect. Play curtain raisers, your affiliated VFL team, an under 18's game, etc. Reduce the price of memberships/admission/food. I believe people would be more inclined to go if it was better value

Saw an article the other week where some club executives believe Friday Night Games start too late as a reason for falling crowd numbers that night, although I suspect some really crummy fixtures this year and some nasty winter weather is the main reason.

Start times will effect different groups

Families want earlier games, so children aren't getting home/bed too late. Others prefer later time slots.

While Thursday night games are great for the TV viewer, I doubt many that attend games like it that much

I had all these negative attitudes before Covid.

I really hate night footy. Even after all these years it’s still foreign to me.

I still lament the developments in the game that has made it less Australian Rules and more AFL. However the game still gets me excited and I love those special moments where genius overrides formula.

I miss the connection to Princes Park. Footy is about community for me and I’m not sure how we deal with that. Without a central place to connect it’s difficult. Big Footy is great but it’s not Princes Park.

I solved the problem of footy being expensive to some extent. I just don’t buy anything on game day. No footy record. I use to love jotting down the scores etc on game day (yes I’m a nerd). As for food, I just ignore it and cop the abuse of Mrs Robbo for not eating.

I think I’ve managed to see 8 games this year. I’ve missed 3 at the MCG (Richmond both times and Collingwood) so I am a little nervous about crowds. I still wear a mask at the games as I’m still aware that Covid hasn’t gone anywhere but I’m clearly in the minority.

i was thinking last week how 'boring' footy can be here in Victoria - basically the same 2 grounds (+ kardinia park) for all teams games - the old suburban grounds were great for variety. I understand why they dont play at them anymore but it does make for boring footy at times watching the same grounds each week for 6 games .

For me it's mostly scheduling. Thursday night games are a hell no and so are most Friday night games. They're just not friendly timeslots when you've got little kids at home. Sunday twilights also a pain in the arse. It shits me how expensive good seats are.

One of my favourite aspects of the AFLW is that it's played at suburban grounds.

I reckon most of the people who jump on social media comment sections and claim "these umpiring decisions are why I'm not going to games any more" were probably not going to games anyway.

Saw a heap of them on a FB clip of the Darcy Moore deliberate rushed behind thing. Someone even shoehorned in the word "woke" to their criticism of the call.

Dregs. Wouldn't want them at the game anyway, they're probably the same people who make it an unwelcoming atmosphere for kids.

Drop the blaring PA advertising noise at the ground. Stop the USA style of razzmatazz with music and lights and dancing, distracting fence lines. We don't need flashing disco lights and thumping music to tell us a goal has been scored. Stop the moronic "entertainment" akin in quality and skill to a primary school fete egg and spoon race. Stop the shrieking inanity of club announcers trying to contrive crowd response. The game has lived on its own merits for 150 years. The social media era needn't dictate how we experience the live excitement of the greatest sport in the world.

Crowds are poor on Friday's in Melbourne because there is only 30% of workers in the CBD on Friday's post Covid, it's the main day people decide to work from home. You're probably talking about a few hundred thousand people, plus the one's who decide to come into the CBD to meet friends and get to the games after a few drinks.

It's just too much of an effort to get from home to the CBD for most on a Friday, the same reason businesses in the CBD are closing at a rate of knots...

People have better things to do then take the time to travel to a game and can’t afford the good seats , tell me you would rather sit on level 4 and watch the game in the cold then on Kayo or free to air .. cost and the convenience of tv is the main reason
