You get it

I think most supporters that state that they aren't attending games due to umpiring are more likely the supporters of underperforming sides

My question to them when they state this reason, "Why do you still watch the game on TV"?

Some teams play really crap footy. Why would you make the effort to go and see it live ij the middle of winter when you can stay home and warm?

Another rule change ...

I hate this crap from the AFL, make your rules and accept the tactics that come with them.

So players won’t use this as an opportunity to get close to the kicker, does this tweak make it easier for umpires to adjudicate?

Yeap, makes it harder and we will have more varied interpretations which will cause more frustration

Yeah, it makes it easier and fairer.
You don't have players running through the area trying to get a 50 by splitting from their opponent.

It doesn't make it easier to interpret, it makes it harder.

A left footer 10 metres from the boundary on his left shoulder takes a mark. A teammate runs between the man on the mark and the boundary line to create an option. Under the old rule would have to take the same path. Player with the ball can either use that option or swing on his left with no opposition player holding up that movement

Now, that opposition player can remain in board to slow that 2nd option and the umpire needs to determine if it was deliberate or instruct the player to clear the area, which slows the ball movement down of the attacking player

They can't remain in board to slow it down though. You have to be exiting the area as soon as you lose contact with your opponent.

I was more meaning now the umpire has more grey area, a rule that was simple but strict now has a rule on top of a rule applied to it, players and coaches will exploit the rules, like they did with the previous interpretation, they will do the same with this.

Its like the dissent rule, it was simple, there was backlash, the AFL doubled down and went stricter, there was backlash and now they changed the rule but didn’t change it, now it seems to not apply at all.

The 30 second shot clock for having a shot at goal, seems simple, but there’s a rule on top of the rule that an ump can call play on if they think you’re wasting time.

The rushed behind rule, you could rush behinds until a team used it to gain a tactical advantage, then now you can rush a behind but only if ……….

The hands in the back rule that was made simple but then changed back so now forwards push out defenders and umps don’t know what’s what.

All of these changes when lined up just seem confused, an organisation obsessed with trying to manage everything.

There is nothing wrong with players milking the clock, rushing behinds and manipulating the rules to your advantage, players and coaches will do it, regardless of the rules.

Drop the blaring PA advertising noise at the ground. Stop the USA style of razzmatazz with music and lights and dancing, distracting fence lines. We don't need flashing disco lights and thumping music to tell us a goal has been scored. Stop the moronic "entertainment" akin in quality and skill to a primary school fete egg and spoon race. Stop the shrieking inanity of club announcers trying to contrive crowd response. The game has lived on its own merits for 150 years. The social media era needn't dictate how we experience the live excitement of the greatest sport in the world.
Totally agree with your comments thy, as I was at the Dees v Lions match the other night with my Qld relatives and could not believe it when each time the Dees got a goal the scoreboard flashed "GOAL" on it in Melbourne colours, while all around the ground boundary fences lit up with red & blue as well until it felt like I was in a Demon themed disco, and there was nothing like that at all when the Lions scored and most of the time the scoreboard was covered in advertising so you missed out on a lot of the replays.....especially of the Lions stuff, which of course was a lot less than the Dees highlights but you sure knew you were at a Melbourne game and that was even apart from the booing of the "entitled" Melbourne snow bunnies!!!

On the same plane as Tom Stewart.

He originally was in the wrong seat and had to move.

Unsure if it was careless or intentional...
Tipping he's flying economy if he's near Matthew. That will mean elbows tucked in.

Would like this six times, but I'm a little shaky on liking it the seventh.

Could probably start a thread on this, but I find some of the reasons why crowds have declined this year really strange

People stating umpiring and or the rules as reasons they have stopped going to a game is next level bizarre
I don’t
Why would want to go if you’re a freo fan
Fyfe kicks it to what he assumes is a team mate
Oh no !!
Deliberate
What IQ does an umpire have to have in order to referee a game ?
Answer
Doesn’t matter
Just call dumb things and who cares
