The interview on SEN was a shambles.

The whole thing was a big load of denial. Refuses to speak to Joel Smith but is willing to pour ample amount of support around Clayton Oliver who is an absolute culture killer.

One minute: “We’ve got an amazing high-performing culture in terms of the people and the leadership that have driven this for 10 years now"

Next: “We’ve got some isolated incidents that we are going to deal with to drive our culture forward”

....amazing high performing culture (whatever that means) to we have had some incidents that will drive our culture forward. Cant be that "amazing high performing" if these incidents are going to improve it.

Trotting out the top 4 line again :$

"We’ve made decisions in and around our footy club for a long period of time to build the best footy club we can to perform at the highest level, to the extent that we won a premiership in 2021, top four the last couple of years"

I'd argue the talent on the list has got us to the top 4 (if you want to use that after b2b straight sets exits so not really top 4) the past two years and the culture is dogshit (along with gameplan) which has held us back.

Good to see Garry called bullshit.

Melbourne great Garry Lyon, who was conducting the interview, didn’t see eye-to-eye with Pert’s claim that the Demons’ culture is the best he’s seen across four decades.

While Lyon doesn’t hold an official role at Melbourne, he’s still deeply connected to the club and wasn’t accepting of the CEO’s bold statement as a supporter who wants to see the club improve both on and off-field.

“I’m not buying it, I’m sorry,” Lyon said.

“You’re telling me the culture is the best you’ve seen in 40 years of footy – you’ve been in a lot of good footy clubs over the journey.”

“You’re telling me that you’ve got a high-performance culture, and I can’t – I’m representative of a Melbourne footy club supporter base right now who are going ‘I’m not buying that’.

“I get what you’re saying, but it doesn’t play out that way when I’m seeing incidents here, incidents there, the way that they played in the back half of the year, the discipline – all of these add up to me as not a 40-year-best standard culture.

“I’m sorry, you can try and convince me otherwise, but I’m not having it.”

Pert GTFO plz.
Go Away GIF

My favourite part.

Gaz: "I'm not buying it, and neither are the supporters"

Pert: "I can understand some supporters not buying it but thats because they don't understand what culture and a high performance environment is" 🫡

Short of winning a flag, secretly hoping we implode next year for the LOLs

Imagine writing a statement to all members because of all the recent incidents and then having the chutzpah to complain about supporters linking all of these incidents together.

"Melbourne FC: AMAZING HIGH PERFORMANCE CULTURE*"

*High performance culture not included. Melbourne FC takes no responsibility for individuals at the Melbourne FC.

Was interesting that Pert pretty much dismissed the notion of contacting all the younger players families or future potential draftees about what's been playing out. Again, either arrogance or denial.

A few melting over the interview here, but again, did anyone expect anything different? Protecting the brand and players. We were never going to get whole truths. Pert and Goodwin are robots. At the end of the day, the only thing that will matter is winning finals. I know for a fact Collingwood players are doing the same s*** right now. My mate lives next door to one of their stars. Gawn is right in a way, every clubs dealing with the same s***, we just got a couple of dumb dumbs who got caught.

I'm more worried about our ball movement forward and lack of decent forwards than our culture tbh.

Pert: "I can understand some supporters not buying it but thats because they don't understand what culture and a high performance environment is" 🫡

Pert also later added ‘Those supporters should find a new team’

"Our supporters need to improve their own high performance culture and pump up the volume."

Interestingly they were pretty clear they want to "open the footy club up" and get more media exposure to show supporters what it's like at the club. Probably view the rumours and innuendo as being flamed by a lack of supporter access or transparency.

Might be a signal they think the media department is underperforming and it's hard to disagree. Ben Gibson did a pretty good job and it's been hard to replace him.

Also have to add I find it quite extraordinary that Goodwin hasn't spoken to Joel Smith. Seems to have been accepted that Smith will keep his job despite getting caught taking illicit drugs right before a round 23 game.

I get we're short of forwards but I would like to know how that fits with Goodwin and the leadership group allegedly driving standards and a high performance culture.

Okay watched it.

Goodwin lacks intelligence, both general and emotional (but we already knew that). He fronted up to that interview with his talking points (“isolated incidents”, “high performance kulcha” etc) and excuses fairly well rehearsed but showed no real understanding or willingness to be open minded enough to understand the serious problems at the club.

No surprise there. They’re largely of his making!

Pert doubling down on the ‘high performance’ schtick and effectively saying “move along nothing to see here” unfortunately spells dee-saster for the club.

I wouldn’t be getting too invested in the prospect of another GF appearance with these two steering the ship. So disappointing.

How about the fact that they’ve known Clarry was a head case for at least three years but still gave him the 7 year / $7mil deal? Gross incompetence!

Isn't the cub barred from speaking to Smith at all while the ASADA stuff plays out? Pert noted that in his statement.

Very weirdly phrased if that's the case. Still seems like poor form to publicly vent via the media when you haven't even spoken to the person.

Great to hear we're sending Goody to NZ to save some more lives and also learn more about WINNING from the All-Blacks and add to our high-performance culture.

Also put to bed silly talk about his premiership jumper.
