Re: Trades youd like to see your team make

For the Crows:

Andy Otten
Shaun McKernan
Chris Knights
Bernie Vince
Richie Douglas
Kurt Tippett
Richard Tambling (yeah, I said it)
Brad Symes

Not all of them, obviously, but we'd consider offers. Some would need to be pretty good (Tippett, Vince), others could just be for pick upgrades.

Yes please.

Re: Trades youd like to see your team make

I'd maybe do something late for X Ellis, see if a change of scenery will rejuvenate him.

Re: Trades youd like to see your team make

I agree with everything apart from
McKernan (would be late 2nd/early 3rd round, He creates a lot of errors from time to time)
Also you said on another post Boak is worth a late first round pick
while Tippett is worth a player AND a first round pick?
I reckon Boak winning the B&F last year is better than Tippetts 31 goals.
Fair enough. I'm not an enormous fan of Boak, but that's neither here nor there.

I just think a good midfielder like Boak isn't going to be a game changer for anyone. The difference between Boak and the player in your midfield who's spot he'll be taking doesn't improve you as much as putting a big contested mark like Tippett in an undersized forward line would.

Anyone with a player comparable to Tippett wouldn't be in the market for him. But everyone would have players relatively similar to Boak - you can play without a decent CHF, but you can't play without midfielders.

I get where your coming from, but the reason why Boak doesn't make much of an impact on some games is because he is the one being tagged. But with Brad Ebert coming in and K. Cornes back to his best and some help from McCarthy, Cassisi, Pearce, Hartlett, Thomas, Salopek (if fit) and Wingard and perhaps Ben Kennedy or Jimmy Toumpas (wink wink). Boak might have more support to show his stuff.

Re: Trades youd like to see your team make

From an Essendon perspective; at the right price, I would seriously consider trading out:

* Rick Dyson
* Sam Lonergan
* Nathan Lovett - Murray
* Angus Monfries
* David Myers
* Brent Prismall
* Kyle Reimers
* Henry Slattery
* Ariel Steinberg

Obviously for the right price, for a pick upgrade or of a player we are in dire needs for (developing KP, developing ruckmen, small forward).

All offers considered at this stage..

Id love for Monfries to come down to port
maybe a straight swap for Salopek? Salopek is 1 year older
also your ruck stocks are fine..Hille, Ryder, Bellchambers
There are 2 good young rucks in this years draft (tipped to be picked around 10-20 which essendons first pick would most likely be then)

as Wagreymon said, we are already comitted to Daniher, which looks increasingly likely to enforce us to use our first round pick.
Our rucks are fine for the time being, Hille (30 years old), Ryder (24), Bellchambers (23) are all producing to a high level, but what happens if Bellchambers or Ryder goes down with injury next year or 2013 when Hille isnt there? who do we go to? Who do we have coming through? no one!

As for Salopek, I was all for Essendon to get more midfielders last year (through drafts or trading), however, with the significant improvement in guys like Hocking, Howlett, and the renaissance of guys like Rick Dyson, Leroy Jetta, Angus Monfries and the step up of Brent Stanton and David Zaharakis has seen me really re asses our list. With the depth we have playing at Bendigo, and the kids we have begining to step up has seen me look to our other deficiencies, our ruck shortage, our key position stocks and our small men problems..

Re: Trades youd like to see your team make

Daniel Stewart? You probably only need depth in those areas, and adding him would add a bit of depth to both of them. I'd do Stewart for Monfries.

If you throw in your first round pick, done!

(edit: don't want Daniel Stewart, we do still want quality players)

Re: Trades youd like to see your team make

The grapevine tells us that Trent Dennis Lane is on his way to becoming a Giant.

really? first i've heard.

a shame. i think he can play, but obviously struggling to get a game under longmire which is the only reason i threw his name into that list.

Ryder, Bellchambers, and Hilley are capable of taking 1st ruck duties and all arguably play their best when rucking one-out.
I agree we'd be buggered if all 3 were out at one point, but you can't base all your planning on that.
And we've got three 197+cm KPs, and will have a 200+cm KP/ruck from next year who can pinch-hit.

Would be very keen for (someone like) Otten post-Fletch, but I suspect if he moved, he'd want to go somewhere where he's guaranteed starting 18 - I don't think we can. Would be sides queuing up for him if Adelaide wanted (unlikely IMHO) to trade him.
Why wouldn't the Tigs or the Dogs go for him?

I was suprised when I heard it too, I thought if it didn't work out in Sydney he would have been a monty to return home to one of the WA clubs (probably Freo).

Don't get me wrong, really like our rucks at the moment, but we need to start planning for 4 years down the track. Who knows what could happen between now and then. Been a while since we had a decent 18 y.o kid coming through (since T - Bell, now 4 years ago)

Don't think we could ask Gumbleton or Carlisle (assuming that's who you meant? along with Ryder as the three KPP's who can ruck?) to ruck at AFL level.

I'd be keen for someone like Otten, can never deny quality. Don't think we would go for another HBF/BP type, already have up to a dozen players who can fill these positions, a healthy positiong Imo.

I wouldnt mind going for someone like Koby Stevens, simply too good for WAFL football, but seemingly not being able to break into a strong league side. Perhaps look at a developing KPP from another club also and see what there is, perhaps a Jayden Post (Richmond) could be an option, whilst looking at the unbrindled talent from the two expansion clubs could see a number of young up and comers 'home sick' (looking at you Josh Caddy).

Hooker, has pinch-hit before.
They're going to be going up against a similar pinch-hitter more often than not.

In 4 years, Ryder will be 28, Bellchambers 26, Daniher 22.
That's when they'll start drafting to replace Ryder/Bellchambers.

Unless Ryder or Bellchambers does a knee, it won't be a high priority before that.

I don't really see the need.
We've still got most of 2010 & 2011's draftees - most of whom are midfielders - (Browne, Kavanagh, Ross, Davis etc) to have a look at.

I don't actually see that many glaring immediate holes in our list atm. We'll get Joe, and add to our depth in a few areas, and not much else.

how'd that work out for us in that final against Adelaide? :cool::D The hamstring is best value in defence for us, don't want to see him anywhere near the rucking role, even as a second ruckmen.

For list management sake, you need 5 ruckmen on the list, I have said this for years.

2 first choice ruckmen (Hille/Ryder) a developing ruck putting pressure on the first choice rucks(Bellchambers), a developing ruckmen who could play seniors if absolutely required if the first three were out injured(Joe Daniher, even though he is a forward before he is a ruckmen), and a raw, young developing ruckmen.

I don't really see the need.
We've still got most of 2010 & 2011's draftees - most of whom are midfielders - (Browne, Kavanagh, Ross, Davis etc) to have a look at.

I completely agree, I was just throwing some names out for discussion points tbh. I am actually really happy with where our midfield group is at, obviously our KPP and ruck stocks (In my eyes) need bolstering, but apart from that, perhaps a small forward who can come off the rookie list in a couple of years when Davey (who is 28 this year) retires potentially.

Like i said above, I completely agree, I am actually really impressed with where our group is at. Also above, perhaps some KPP's and ruck's wouldnt go astray, but apart from that, the renaissance of guys like Dyson, Davey, Stanton even and the continual improvement of guys like Zaka, jetta, Hibberd, Howlett, Crameri has seen me reassess where our list is really at.

Even our depth is solid enough, with the guys like Reimers, McVeigh, Slattery in the wings if required.

Re: Trades youd like to see your team make

Post is an interesting one. I think a lot of Tigers supporters thought he might be our 2012 "Alex Rance" and have his break out year... so far it hasn't happened and he looks down on confidence, and if guys like Astbury and Griffiths string a few games together after recovering from injury, he could slip further back in the pecking order (Elton is in the wings too, but still a good year or two away).

Anyway, big kid, can take a grab, and can pinch hit in the ruck, and as I said confidence seems to be his big issue currently... perhaps a change of scenery would benefit him. What would you suggest his trade worth is? Tigers are in need of a small forward and midfield depth, and probably a young project ruckman off the top of my head.

5 rucks is too many. If you average 2 rucks each game a year, that's only 44 games available H&A, so you soon have disgruntled players and they leave. 3-4 max, depending on the stage they are at and a couple of pinch hitter KPP's.

2 out of 22 = 9%
5 out of 42 = 12%

With 5, your clogging up your list with giants who take longer to develop than mids.

Re: Trades youd like to see your team make

Would Sharod Wellingham ever leave Collingwood? ;)

Doubtful these days seems settled, Collingwood offered him to wce for pick 22 a couple of years ago.

He would be worth more now.

Think he would head back to WA if he was to leave Collingwood.

Re: Trades youd like to see your team make

LOL at this Salopek talk from Port fans.

He can only get a game a Glenelgs 2s atm.

No way he is worth anything more then a 5th or 6th rounder right now.
