anybody else get as excited as me watching GWS v SYD? This has got me more excited for a non hawthorn match, a non victorian team match.. How good is GWS!! (cos Buddy left us, not because i think GWS is a good team to go for)

btw hope it continues for Sydney.. Syd to not make the 8? at least not top 4? With Buddy kicking a low amount of goals for the season too..! exciting stuff.. never gotten that excited b4 seriously (without Hawthorn involved). Buddy sucks! haha

Any loss for Sydney is pleasing to me. Hate them with a passion for several reasons, not really because Buddy is there but because of all the special handouts they get from the AFL ( including the gifted draw that saw them get a comfort ride into a granny which they only ended up winning on account of our bad kicking and some fatigue because of said draw rort ) and then still whinge and carry on regarding Cola ! . They are now, and have been for a long time, an established entity. Why the Fu#$ should they get any special privileges ? Eff'em I say. Hope they fail year in year out.

Excited? No. Scared? Yes.

The AFL simply gave them way, way too many first round draft picks. We're fortunate that our window is now because in 3 or 4 years nobody will get close to them.

Yes, a bit of good fortune, but also good planning by the Hawks. A lot of our trading and "topping up" of players would have had this is mind.

You could make a case this is Sydneys fault too.

I think derwayne said there were 27 first rounders in their squad.. Means In a year or two hopefully some unhappy first rounders not getting a gig & happy to move on.. Unfortunately I don't think Whitfield will be one of those not getting a game.. A gun ..

This. And my dislike for $ydney goes way back to the Edelstone days, particularly when the umpiring in Sydney was clearly biased. Then the hatred strengthened following the tribunal decision to allow Hall play in their winning GF after the behind the play stomach punch against St Kilda. And now the Buddy thing........

I agree, and this is all part of our 5 and 10 year plans. I believe we will target some of the young talent from these clubs over the next few years. First thing I noticed yesterday was how much their bodies were. They will be a force in 5 years, but without COLA, they won't be able to keep all their top players

Seriously, how could they have fitted Franklin in that forward line with Boyd running around in their reserves.

I agree with the thread topic: the Giants are looking potent. I saw this before the start of the footy season (even before the start of the pre-season)...their recruiting looked very smart. I think the move for Heath Shaw and Josh Hunt is very positive, as now they have taken on the mantle of leaders. Early stages, but they already look less flaky in orange! (They were both known to be flaky at their old clubs.) Mummy is a bomb of a recruit.

I think we have to keep the excitement in check, however. They ARE an opposition club. When we play them there will be absolutely no mucking around...we must drub them (or attempt to) like we have in the past. Never take any opponent for granted, as the Swans did.

My brother was a passionate football fan prior to 1982, when the Swans moved north. After that, he still loved the footy, but it was tempered. It was more the loss of the suburban element...

I think it's great to see these sides start to improve and play some good footy. Not convinced they'll be the dominant side everyone expects, but was great to see how they won the game. Came from behind, and over-ran a bloody good side.

Then to watch the Suns knock off the Tigers as well, geez the Suns have got some gun mids too.

Best part is, they are still behind us.

I'm not sure it's a great thing seeing GWS rise. They're going to have the best forward line in the comp by a fair margin in 3 years.
All the more reason for Heatherley & Brand to continue their development!

And I hope that Tatupu can have a basic, but good year in the Dev Squad.

Will they be able to keep all three tho??
And if they do manage it, it may cost them elsewhere on the ground...

I'm not sure whether the two start-ups will be the mad dominating force, but it will be still interesting to watch.
And I've liked the footy the suns have been playing and did enjoy the way GWS were playing, entertaining footy is always good.

Yeah, they will have to trade. But it won't be with us. It will be whoever came last and for the 1st pick which they will use again. Then rinse and repeat.
Scary

Exactly.

People seem to think that because they can't keep all these players that they won't become that dominant. These young players have to be traded so GWS and GC will just replace the ones they lose with more top draft picks, adding more young guns to their soon to be superior sides. Just look at the Dom Tyson trade last year, they just replaced him with Josh Kelly effectively.

The only hope is that lots of these talented players don't buy in and play for less then there market value and the salary cap forces many out. However if they all rise together and want ultimate success and therefore all take less money then we have 2 sides that will monopolize the premierships for a few years or more.

Do you think the AFL will not be paying them all as "ambassadors"?
