WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

It only seems like yesterday that one could look thru several opposition boards.. the smiling and choffs , the almost euphoric joy was apparent ..that we had to give up all its picks for Cameron. He he. suck eggs... hahahahah

and now , perhaps the same boards, perhaps different , the gumbles and gripes, the bitter bile of resentment that Geelong managed to obtain the Gold Coast pick for a Fr3..... AFL arte rubbish giving GC kids for nothing .. blahblabla

Geelong musty be doing someyhing very right to build up such discernible animosity , some posts are reasonable but some almost drip with venom .... makes one laugh. I can only imagine the vibe if Geelong managed to get a gun with the pick. ... so over to you SWells .. pick a gem

I havent looked at opposition boards since the preview of this years GF

What a waste of time - i would say 1-3% actually previewed/discussed the upcoming game - and the rest - it was just basically - i despise both clubs - wont even bother watching the game - or they will be to close to our flags won - along those lines - just pathetic

When Geel havent been in GFs - there is normally a reasonable preview/discussion - sure you get the childish imbeciles - but there is normally some decent discussion on the upcoming GF .

Just tells me his X is not worth the Y... if he was a better player then I suspect he would be contacted ... its not like he has not been observed

Have a look at the earlier post about Jye's achievements. As good a resume as there can be. The media have been promoting Jye for the last 7 years. No genuine interest from clubs (not even a single state screening invite). Cut by Collingwood after 1 year despite significantly outperforming expectations on field. You don't think there's more to it than meets the eye?

AFL clubs would know about the significant issues back in his junior days. They would ask why he wasn't part of the Falcons squad when he was drafted. Obviously he cleaned himself up to a point that Collingwood took a punt with the final pick in the rookie draft with an extended list knowing there was upside. It would also make a great story, however he would be skating on thin ice from the moment he walked in the door.

Good on him for carving out the career that he has had at that level but I can see why clubs wouldn't take the risk.

I get all that ..I can read between the lines...

.... but not every player drafted is pure as the driven snow .. and if a player is talented enough its amazing how clubs can find ways to be accomadating... and if a player is just a good player then he better not be adding to a clubs issues.

Say again..im not wanting or advocating him... but was he any more of a cancer than the big 4 over at wc years ago. I doubt if Kelly was any less than what he developed into that he would have got drafted... but once his performance elevated ...he was drafted. No he may has a heap of stats playing wafl.. but does he have hurt factor that would translate..? Id say what ever his issues, his talent is not enough to compensate having to deal with them.

We are in a climate of 1000 players nominating for the draft and 50-60 will get drafted. You better be squeeky or be very very good.

Problem is that they will likely be replaced by junior, inexperienced doctors that have limited life experience and no real mentors to learn from. Not an ideal scenario.

The afl should seperate the cost of medical and coaching out of the soft cap ... in fact they should mandate a min spend on drs etc.

Coaching to some degree is excess ... it only adds to the negatives that many dislike in the game.. very few coaches concentrate on attack and kicking goals.. its all about coaching defence

I don't think you have a game now if you can't attract decent medical staff. With reduced lists, potential liability issues arising etc.. going to be a interesting dialogue between AFL, clubs and the PA.

The game is completely over coached. It's ridiculous. When you have got guys employed full time to look at solely clearances then it's become a joke. How bloody mind numbing to have that job or be a specialist forward or backline coach?! Would do my head in and I love (or used to love) footy.

Dont mind a change up in our medical department, think they have left a fair bit to be desired myself.

As far as senior players go I think they have done pretty well, not too many issues there for quite a few years. Last year we had a great run.

Young players different story but if we are buying them broken, or we break them down i.e playing Fog first year when he was clearly injured, is it really the medicos fault?

I was just listening to Cal Twomey on the afl site. He was asked who Geelong might take at 27 and he suggested he had an idea (inside info?) who Geelong were targeting but quickly said he wasn't prepared to nominate who that might be.

I will be keeping an eye on his phantom draft selections next week. Might be very interesting.

Troy Selwood saying he expects our current picks to be approx 31-32 & 41-42 on draft night by their internal calcs. He says their draft board is done and it’s now just strategy and contingency planning. Basically confirmed we would take 2 ND picks.

He did say they we have options and would monitor the 1st Rd but we’re still very happy with the group of players we expect to be available at our pick.

Its his gut feel that next years draft is better. Says they feel there is only 3 NGA prospects at this stage that could go under 40 next year. Says that we hope to have 3 under 30 but either way will have 4 under 40 it’s just a matter of where.

He got asked about Ollie Henry and he said it would be a Wells miracle if he could pull that one off but you never know.

Pretty much as i thought..so we will take 2 ND and leave 1 spot open for rookie draft or SSP.

I think we would like henry but we think he will go top 12 and we think the cost to trade up there would be too high. If he slides towards 20 then o think we will try and trade up with our future 2nds and get him.

Geez, get Ollie Henry and Eddie Ford and its happy days.
I think Eddie Ford will be gone in 20-30 range tbh.
If our pick in the 50s comes into 40s, then that's actually really good.

Anyone know much about Sam Berry?

Seems like a wellsey sort of pick, diamond in the rough type.

Looks like a bigger bodied mid which I think would complement the likes of stephens and parf moving forward. Not on the same level as cocky at his best, but brings the same sort of pressure and has the ability to move forward and kick a goal.
Possibly look for some more speed with our picks in 2021.

I'd be quite happy if we walked away with berry and highmore from 27 and 51.

Did we decide the risk of a R1 pick for Kemp was too high ? Perhaps ... but if we are thinking a player would have been top 5... but now can be picked much later but has a knee question hanging over him... sort of different level of risk.
First most , if not any kid we pick will be years away from giving us anything. Second our side is so strong that most drafted players will struggle to break in...
..so its clubs like Rich and Geelong etc that can take risks on players. Could come up snake eyes but if the club has done its research and likes the risk then fine.

My only concern is we are not talking a 197cm star CHF ..Baldwyn is more the 193 size..
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Kemp a top 5 pick if it wasn't for his knee?
I agree about the risk as we have such a strong line up. But may as well go after a need than a hit and hope.

Clubs should have a full time doctor, physios, psychologist and sports medicine doctors. The AFL have potentially opened up law suites against themselves. Clubs overseas leave no stone unturned when it comes to the welfare of their staff.

So we've got a 1st 3 2nds and a 3rd for next year. How many players are we expecting to leave next year? Rohan Dollhouse JJ Selwood.
Wonder what 27 and fr 2nd tied to Essendon or GWS would get us? 🤔
Sounds like if Olli gets to 15/17ish and we'll pull the trigger.
