Did you ignore the part about Kelly's cash? that plus Ablett and Taylor's money is plenty.

The money we had for Kelly last year didn't just up and vanish
Kelly's cash that apparently doesn't exist anymore. Reports are tonight our salary cap does not allow us to pay more than $750k for Cameron. Ablett also apparently signed for not a lot when he came back, he spread what he was owed by GC over multiple years here apparently.

I assume that cash has been redistributed and probably given to guys that re-signed this year.

The question really is, how can we make cap space with the current list as reports are we are struggling to make room? Its a hard question which requires hard decisions.

Cockatoo and Narkle have played 20 games between them in the last 3 years they don't even count lol

You can let the fast fogarty,

Believing reporters......... the same reports who got Gawn in trouble when his wife thought he was lying about how much he got payed or the reporter who said what JR injure was and how based on scans that JR confirmed later that he hadn't even had yet. those reporters?

I'll cop that. Hawks had a great year and I hope it continues.

However, Cameron is a top 2-3 Key Forward in the league over a long period of time.
The Hawkins/Cameron forward combination would be devastatingly good and would hopefully throw some of our defensively-minded structures out the window.

I'd prefer to overpay for him if that's what it took.

Okay Taylor, Ablett are already factored in.

I assume Cocky and Parsons would be already factored in as the are gone.

Brownless, Constable and Henderson are on minimum if not close to it. Hence, no savings there.

You could probably chop Tuohy thats a tough decision and possible. However, not sure its a better move football wise.

Tuohy and Henderson? both are more likely to get another contract not get traded delisted

Tuohy has been very average for 2 years now, can’t get a gig permanently in the defence anymore & doesn’t play consistently well in any other position should be fazed out over the next season. Hope he proves me wrong in finals 👍

Last year with the Knee injury i would agree he was down on his best but i think he has been very good this year considering he has played multiple different roles to try and help balance the list.

This may surprise a few in here about Hendo

Gryan Miers, 12.6km
Mark Blicavs, 12.2km
Sam Menegola, 11.9km
Lachie Henderson, 11.7km
Mark O'Connor, 11.7km

I understand pay structures but you think Cameron is worth 750k? He's the premier forward in the league. Was just on $1.6m before covid...yet Hawk apparently just came off near a million if you believe some reports.

Who do you trade or delist to increase cap space that people would actually take and that aren't already on minimum contracts? Thats why recent signings are the issue.
The only reason Cameron was in line to receive $1.5 million this year was due to previous restructuring of his contract with GWS - when he initially signed the 5-year deal with GWS it was on the basis of $1 million per year for 5 years, so a straight up, easy pay structure

But as GWS tried to re-sign players and adjust payments to keep players happy & stay under the salary cap, they reworked Cameron's contract so that he'd receive $1.5 million this year

Keep him on that initial $1 million, then a decrease on a new deal & especially with a reduction with list sizes & most likely salary cap, it doesn't seem so crazy

That’s definitely a way to see it, personally I think he was gifted games on seniority much like Steven & lesser extent Adkins but when I say he’s been average I don’t mean it as an insult, lists need league average players just doesn’t make sense if that’s his ceiling now on his wage. I do genuinely hope he proves me wrong.

Cockatoo CC Fogarty Narkle etc are all guys who wouldn't be on minimum deals same with Jenkins Parsons Simpson etc..you could replace a lot of those guys with draftees if you wanted to make room for someone's $.

But we allegedly according to media reports don't have room to sign Cameron? I used Parfitt and Henry as an example as both have recently re-signed.

We have the room. Whether we want to break our pay structure is the bigger issue.

Firstly you're putting too much credence into a HS article when they have no idea of the club's cap position.

Secondly you can move players out to free up cash if you need to club's do it all the time.

Obviously we know miers Menegola and blicavs are endurance beasts but the Henderson bit surprises me..he obviously covers more ground than you would expect a key defender to.

Players are only on minimum if they are rookies or on draftee contracts (2 years). CC cocky Narkle fog parsons etc are all off their initial contracts and hence on more than minimum wage.

This may be stupid question, but where did these numbers come from and does it say which games those distances covered were in?

Mainly curious on the Henderson one - I know he ended up in the forward line last time we played Port, so wouldn't be surprised if it was that game or maybe the Saints game; thinking that with not necessarily a lot of the ball down in defence our defenders may have spent more time getting up the ground to stay involved compared with matches which see a lot of the ball in defence like when the opposition gets a run on with things

The second list is averages over the whole year

Insulting? This is a trade board and Parfitt's name already appears on here.

Attack the idea not some snide remark about me needing medication.

So you wouldn't clear room for the premier key forward in the league when you could have him for free?

Are you seriously projecting that Parfitt and Henry will out achieve Jeremy Cameron?

I'd do both, as someone said before, the Brent Moloney move. It may not be a direct trade but if they eat up cap space we need for him, its the same principle.
I wouldnt give up Henry and/or Parfitt for anyone. They are two of the players we will build our future around.
if he wants Geelong then GWS still have Himmelberg, Finlayson and young Riccardi so I believe they would take the FA compensation first rounder and walk.
if they matched we'd be willing to give up picks and fringe players with upside like Constable and Narkle and Zuthrie.
i dont think they would though.
still have a feeling re Cameron.

Well according to reports tonight, we can't offer a deal over 750k and are out of the race if we were ever in. So contracts to whoever they are potentially going to cost Cameron. Hence, my comments apply to any new contracts signed. Parfitt, Henry it doesn't matter who, the salary space is gone.

This is from the Herald Sun article that discusses the Cameron situation - not sure if there's another article or other info, as this one says shit all

CAMERON’S MEGA DEAL ON BACK BURNER

Greater Western Sydney’s offer to Jeremy Cameron is a sign footy’s mega deals have been put on the back burner.

The Giants are trying to sign the superstar forward for five more years which is a slight pull back on the seven-year deals to captain Stephen Coniglio and jet linebreaker Lachie Whitfield.

There has been a trend in footy to lock-in the superstars with whopping offers but industry sources believe the current economic restraints will impact ongoing contracts to the game’s biggest stars.

Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy’s monster seven-year contract on about $950,000 a year looks like the biggest deal we will see for some time.

Sydney Swans’ Lance Franklin signed a nine-year bumper deal to move on from Hawthorn but the champion goal kicker has been curbed by injuries recently, playing 10 games in the past two seasons including none this year.

Recent discussions between player agents and clubs indicate the same blockbuster long-term offers will be wound back somewhat to afford clubs better protection.

Sources have speculated the Giants are prepared to offer Cameron about $700,000 a year, which is about half of the $1.5 million he was due to be paid for 2020 before COVID-19 hit.

Geelong is interested in Cameron but has never paid overs for its players, believing its lifestyle and strong club culture is the greatest drawcard.

Essendon faces a steeper mountain to climb to poach Cameron as club heavyweights try and keep Joe Daniher and Adam Saad from departing the club.

Game time has a huge influence on who made this list

Henderson, Miers and O'Connor are all in the top 4 in our team by game time. Blicavs is 6th
