Oh definitely. But the problem I have with him, as that he isn't going on any logical/stated evidence to base his 22 and emergencies on. He has Olly Henry as an emergency along with Bowes, yet Bruhn isn't even an emergency...but we went harder for Bruhn during trade period, gave up more and Henry himself has said he expects to play VFL in his first year?

It's funny because I kinda think if you break it down, we actually gave up more for Henry than Bruhn... But I still would prefer to have pick 18 in my back pocket than all the picks we gave up to get 25 + Stephens.

We got them both anyway and it's up to them to get to work and reach new heights.

Especially Bruhn for mine who didn't show much when playing for GWS... Henry absolutely showed plenty but was in a much stronger team and for whatever reason lost his spot.

Bruhn was really playing a forward role for GWS, even though he really is an inside mid... so he has excuses for not looking great.

If Henry was also at GWS with Bruhn... I'd be very confident Henry would have taken that spot of Bruhn's in the forward part of the ground since Henry is a much more dangerous natural forward.

Anyway... Fingers crossed they both end up long-term guns for us... + Bowes.

I like humphrey but he could be dangerfield or he could be tenace. Im not sure if that kick is fixable.
Clark is a much safer pick as is mackenzie.
Those would be my preferred 2 unless we go busslinger.
I doubt we will have the luxury of passing up Humprey anyway.

Will be shocked if he is on the board when #8 comes around.

Looking at the predicted Best 23's and gee Josh Gabelich has just been the worst replacement for Mitch Cleary - guy seriously has no idea about Geelong.

We're obviously going to play Bowes Round 1...yet Gabelich has him as an emergency. Just another in a long line of guesses from this guy, who I hadn't even heard of 12 months ago.

Disagree, his best 22 for next year is far more likely to be correct than all the other best 22 projections for Geelong I've seen in the media, since his was the closest to our Grand Final team. If you assume we go in to Round 1 with a fully-fit list (which is an assumption you have to make in these hypotheticals) then there's no reason we would make an changes other than Selwood for Holmes.

The Herald Sun version was far worse. They somehow had both Bruhn and Bowes in the team, Miers out of the side, and Parfitt not even listed as an emergency.

Agree with you on Humphrey. Is able to dominate physically against smaller bodies but I don’t see how his game translates at AFL level, especially with poor disposal. To me he reminds me of Josh Caddy.

Clark agree is a safe bet… but I just don’t see elite A grade talent in him. A safe 200 gamer, a jack redden, lyons, viney type. I want more with pick 7.

Busslinger to me looks ok, but more a 3rd tall interceptor. Not a guy that takes the best or second fwd. 7 feels a reach.

I like Mackenzie but in all honesty I think Phillipou will be the superstar of this draft that everyone thinks “how did we miss that”. You see him do things other draftees can’t… one if his highlights shows a clean grab before having the confidence to take it on run to 55 and score a goal on the run on the wet. That is fyfe/danger/dusty like. That’s the type of player I want at 7 (8). Clark, Mackenzie etc don’t have that.

Disagree. There is very little key position players at our pick and would be a waste to throw that pick away to meet our short term needs. Go with best

All I’m saying is if we take a top 7 rated mid who (say) has the disposal of a Tenace, or had a chronic injury history and miss out on another SDK type (who was a pick in late teens) it would be a massive shame - particularly as the tall could conceivably be getting AFL games in the next year or two (say if SDK was injured or if Neale leaves) whereas a mid would have 4 or 5 in front of him. (refer Cooper Stephens - yes, wasn’t a top 7 pick but you get the idea).

Suspect I’m on the losing side of the debate (and the club has a ‘best available’ approach anyway). We have been brilliant at late picks and rookies, so hopefully that bags some good tall prospects for us.

The ovens and Murray would be in the top 3 leagues in country football, with Geelong FL and Goulburn Valley.. Mate.... im just having an opinion just like you do Turbo....
Also Steve Johnson, that guy who played for Geelong and won a Norm Smith and a few premierships? Is coaching Yarrawonga Football Clubwhat plays in the Ovens and Murray....Mate

Do we really need to persist in the "Mate" thing.. you started I responded ... it has little do with being friendly...

I am 100% in agreement that all are entitled to their own opinion. And if we discuss first rather use the diminutive tone by using Mate as the first word in a post maybe we can discuss without it going sideways.

So fresh start.

The standard might be good.. it might be better than GFL... but even Stewart moved from GFl to the VFL to show his worth. It is still not SANFL or VFL .... which is what id like to see him play in before bring in another sub 180cm player to a list drenched in options. We have a sub 180 player on our VFL list that I know plays VFL to a reasonable standard. But as much as the comp it the player type. Show me a tall tearing that comp a part id probably be more likely to risk it. Thats the area on our list id be adding late or in a rookie spot...especially when we have access to Chlosey and Riccardi.

Sure I'd take a guaranteed clone of SDK, that's not what is on offer. If it was it wouldn't be available at our pick 8

Rare Wells L with nakia 😥 imagine if we had lever and K in the squad
the L wasnt on talent or ability... it was his lack of durability that got him and that cant always be predicted - see Selwood knee vs Nakia ankle at the time of selection

I don’t think you can count Menzel as a draft failure. Clearly the talent was there and he played plenty of great games. Brown and Cockatoo on afl lists for a long time show that they both had the talent.
Brown leg was in a game after drafting i thought.

Menzel ACL's was post drafting as I recall it.

Same with Motlop shoulder.

Cocky was an ankle injury but we all remembe that preseason crows game.... damn that was a brilliant 15 seconds.

Ans if youve been living under a rick since 2012 or so...

I mean this one.

I agree we need some talls. There will be nothing worthy of our first pick (my opinion). Better off trading back if we want a tall

He really teased that he was a 2nd coming of Dangerfield

I'm good with taking Phillipou.

I would like a more powerful/bigger mid that can take overhead marks and kick goals.

Phillipou and Humprey are these types.

Humphrey will probably be gone and even Clark possibly gone aswell... So I'd take Phillipou happily.

I also feel Phillipou will be available at our selection (which is kind of important).

I worry we won't have enough size or dynamic mids once Danger/Blitz move on, Hump/Phillipou are bigger-bodied mids that have power and flexibility.

The kid is right. Contracts for mid-season draftees should be 18 months.

If the contract had to be 18 months, Williams probably wouldn’t have been drafted by us. He could be taken in the draft, and if not, he has seen what is required to be an AFL player and can work on his game.

Wasn't Motlop's shoulder issue also caused by Hawkins knee?

I still think we should have a rookie spot for my man Brayden Crossley, had a good year in the VFL hard as nails, he should get a 2nd chance at AFL only 23

And he doesnt have to play midfield to get games in the seniors - more than capable as a forward. He really is a boom/bust pick that could go either way. I have him as a top 5 pick in this draft

Correct, we probably wouldn't have. But someone else might have, and someone might have this year too. By taking him and departing him outright we basically eliminated his shot

True..and thats probably not a bad outcome. If you can give someone enough time ..its not fair drafting them.

In truth I really think we draft the wrong type..there were options that we could have added that our list needed more.

If he improves and is any good, he will have still have a ‘shot’ in the future. He is only 21. Look at Menegola.
