Have a few mates in the senior coaching ranks at Westies. They said he wasn’t even competitive at SANFL U18 level this year, and that is a very low standard of footy.

I’ve seen some pundits say he struggled because he was thrown around too much. The reverse is probably closer to the truth, i.e. he was thrown around because he was struggling.

Obviously one needs to be competitive and enjoy a contest or you just will not make it ...

Whats this kid like Vdubs

Clay Tucker
State: Victoria Metro
State League Club: Eastern Ranges
Community Club: Rowville
Date of Birth: 09/08/04; Height: 204cm; Weight: 99kg

Developing young ruckman still honing his craft. Averaged 20 hitouts and eight disposals across 11 matches for the Eastern Ranges in the NAB League this year under the guidance of former AFL star and progressive coach Travis Cloke.
Sneaky chance to go late in the draft

Mitch Brown... Dan Menzel... Nakia Cockatoo... you might even make a case for Jackson Thurlow.

We either have seriously bad luck with FRPs and injuries, or we've taken gambles to unearth a few more "Selwoods" (i.e. players who had early injuries that didn't turn out to have an impact on their career).

Think Menzel had done an ACL prior to drafting - but hard to know in advance it was going to get that bad. Did Mitch break his leg first year with us or year prior to being drafted?
INCORRECT re Menzel.
Should have been the next SJ except for the first of many ACL’s in that QF V Hawks

Cockatoo wasn't that much of a reach most clubs with picks in the 10-20 range had interviewed him, sometimes you just need a bit of luck and hes had very little.

Call me a sceptic... Id pass on him. 175cm . Id like to see him play in the SANFL or or VFL or some league where there is sort of serious defence. Sort of Shagga Byrnes size...he best be quick.
Mate... Ovens Murray Football League is a bloody good League.. it would be better Football than Queensland Football League... I know from experience

When is deadline for clubs for the list changes?
Surely we will delist Simpson than re rookie him...
What to fit another 4th rounder on the list? Cant see why we'd bother with the picks we have, would be moving a guy the club rates for one of the last picks in the draft that we could just rookie anyway.

Mate ? ... OK...is it SANFL? Is it VFL? Id like to see him play at that level... we drafted a kid MSD ..and he just fell into a mash of other mids

Everyone has opinions... they are neither right or wrong.. and id prefer to look for a late pick tall.

November 10th is the 1st list lodgement for delistings IIRC.
Players then have until 21/11 to nominate for the draft.

The main reason would be if we are wanting to pick a player at 64 (we cant use 64 unless we delist and rookie simpson) who we dont think will still be there at our 1st rookie pick.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel the top 10, or at least the top 8 are not as exciting as previous years?

Seems a tad underwhelming.

In saying that the player I’m really hoping we call out is Phillipou. He looks an absolute jet. Much more talented than Clark and is so different to everything we have. Has a bit of mongrel in him that I rate.

I think its a pretty good top 7 or 8 tbh, I wouldnt lose a great deal of sleep picking from 8 or so onwards though feels pretty mediocre from that point

How many will land at the club the support? MacKenzie probably a good chance to get to the Hawks if they want him. The irony of him becoming Geelong would be something a lot of kids and their families have to deal with. Trying to put of Hawk scarf or Pies scarf... I guess one would just jump your passive support and rightly just support you child.

How many? Not many. Ashcroft a Geelong supporter..he would be one kid that would jump the cue. HUmp sound like a lot of kids that are not over obsessive about support.

I feel some of the commentary is a little negative but ...one can only judge it long term. I think that long term it will be shown there is talent there but its probably harder than normal to identify.

Super strong draft are rare..most other have a reasonable top and value picks outside of R1... It gets down to picking the right kid, developing them and opportunity.
