Is it just me or does anyone else feel the top 10, or at least the top 8 are not as exciting as previous years?

Seems a tad underwhelming.

In saying that the player I’m really hoping we call out is Phillipou. He looks an absolute jet. Much more talented than Clark and is so different to everything we have. Has a bit of mongrel in him that I rate.

Get the feeling Phillipou might be a bit of a knob. His old man comes across as a snake oil salesman too.

Yeah im the same..i have said it before in recent weeks that i worry about the no of 30 + talls we have and im not convinced neale will stay long term. So yes i know we have ageing mids to replace but with bruhn and bowes in as mids plus p7 (if its a mid) and clohesy (admittedly i rate ted more than some draft watchers) i feel we have enough mids for now (esp since we drafted 3-4 mids last year) id like to see our late/rookie picks this year used on a couple of project kpp at both ends.
This. In spades.

Hugely reliant on on SDK. One long term injury away from a major gap in our defence. SDK is possibly a generational/ ‘once every ten year’ level of talent, that you build your defence around for the long term - expect other clubs to be talking to his mgr about possible long term seven figure pa deals. (As a Carlton fan growing up and bros there, they are likely IMO). Blitz can cover to a degree but is so much more valuable up field. Esava is a break glass option only.

Unless an a absolute gun mid (ie. with no apparent weakness) is available at no. 7, I’d be looking at the best tall available (ideally from Vic), even if the tall is rated lower by the pundits than the next available mid.

Disagree. There is very little key position players at our pick and would be a waste to throw that pick away to meet our short term needs. Go with best available

Does anyone remember who happened to all the picks hawthorn gave away for jaeger o'meara? Who 'won' from all that?

Is the answer Geelong?

Pretty sure the Suns grabbed Bowes with one of the picks. So we get Bowes and pick 7, thanks Hawks😃😃😃

Saints benefitted also

CatToTheFuture too quick for me. (Heard it mentioned on the radio during the week)

St Kilda

Well they traded pick 10 and future 2nd rounder that became pick 32(Liam Ryan) for O'Meara

To get pick 10 they traded 25 (long) , 39 and (Battle) a future 1st rounder which became pick 7 (Clark) to St Kilda

Nice little article in the addy about Bruhn and Henry being mates from school and excited to play together.
Henry also says he’s fine knowing he’ll probably play some vfl. Refreshing to hear that he knows he needs to earn his spot. He also said the Bruhn works really hard, his work ethic and the games he’s already played bode well for him making an impact.

That's really good to hear. I like that these guys want to be the leaders of the next group

Looking at the predicted Best 23's and gee Josh Gabelich has just been the worst replacement for Mitch Cleary - guy seriously has no idea about Geelong.

We're obviously going to play Bowes Round 1...yet Gabelich has him as an emergency. Just another in a long line of guesses from this guy, who I hadn't even heard of 12 months ago.

By definition anyone writing a best 23 six months before the start of the season is guessing.

Oh definitely. But the problem I have with him, as that he isn't going on any logical/stated evidence to base his 22 and emergencies on. He has Olly Henry as an emergency along with Bowes, yet Bruhn isn't even an emergency...but we went harder for Bruhn during trade period, gave up more and Henry himself has said he expects to play VFL in his first year?

Scott himself has said Bowes will 'play in this team' and they have a role in mind for him already. Part of our pitch was to say that we want him and not Pick 7 because we see his value...to play him in the reserves and go back on that would be just so non-Geelong behaviour.

Using this knowledge, Bowes then makes the 22 and Bruhn is an emergency. I don't even work in the media or have contacts with Geelong, and I know this, lol. He literally never has any idea and just makes things up all the time - which suggests to me he isn't really a Geelong insider like Cleary was.

Everything I read about him makes me like him more. Love his work in the mental health space too. It seems more and more likely he’ll be gone before 7 now though.

To be fair (and to give context to my previous comment) i know some people involved in the gippsland program (living down here its not that hard with contacts) and from everything ive been told he is a fantastic kid with a really genuine attitude to life and helping people. And hes got real leadership potential. So on that score i can see him appealing to us as we value that. And he does bring some real match winning on field power. But the disposal does worry me the way the game is going you can have 2 or 3 poor kicks in your team but you cant carry more than that..his disposal might improve with more full time training but it also might not..so it would be a risky pick imo.

Its good because we are going to need some leaders to step up in 2-3 years with all the retirements..ollie and tanner and max and even sdk i think all have real potential in that space (as does conway).

What to fit another 4th rounder on the list? Cant see why we'd bother with the picks we have, would be moving a guy the club rates for one of the last picks in the draft that we could just rookie anyway.
Because I wouldn't mind using 3 picks in the draft... as we will have a few retirement in a few years and be good to get them in our program

Mate ? ... OK...is it SANFL? Is it VFL? Id like to see him play at that level... we drafted a kid MSD ..and he just fell into a mash of other mids

Everyone has opinions... they are neither right or wrong.. and id prefer to look for a late pick tall.
The ovens and Murray would be in the top 3 leagues in country football, with Geelong FL and Goulburn Valley.. Mate.... im just having an opinion just like you do Turbo....
Also Steve Johnson, that guy who played for Geelong and won a Norm Smith and a few premierships? Is coaching Yarrawonga Football Clubwhat plays in the Ovens and Murray....Mate
