I was at the G when Snell copped a dreadful injury. He was a good player - kicked 5 goals in the last quarter once.
same-, game v Demons. Will never forget the vision of Buddha trying to help out, until medicos arrived.
Ended up getting ankle fused eventually

What do people think of the Tassie kid with the mullet, Lachie Cowan?
Good player. I know Geelong have spoken to him.

We won't select him though.

I wasn't too far away from it. I heard the snap.

I would add Vardy to that list - I suspect we never saw the best of him. At least he won a flag and was important in that last stanza.
possibly true, and Cockatoo, Linc McCarthy, but the first 4 were super talents.

Trading out for a future pick isn't realistic to me. Pick 7 this year might get us the Swans future first. Doubt anyone outside the top 4 would play. Pick 7 this year would be seen as a teens pick next year. Just take the best kid left this year.

We'd be getting a Future 1st and 14 or 17 from the Swans for Pick 7 - not just a Future 1st alone, in that scenario. Don't think it'll happen, but if Humphrey was still there, then they very well may offer us that to pick him up - as they're very very keen.

Yet Sydney have been openly saying they want a top 7 pick. If the player we wanted was gone then I’d happily do some small trades to get draft capital back next year when we actually really NEED it.

7 for 8 and F27 - WCE
8 - 14 and FF1st - Sydney

Gives us pick 14 this year and two teens picks + 27 next year to try and replace Touhy, ISmith, Ceglar, Rohan and probably Hawkins.

We only need to be taking one pick this year.

We're not going to replace any of those players with 2023 draftees. If we wanted to replace them, we would have drafted their replacements 2-3 years ago.

It wasn’t a literal statement. It’s replacing their list spot with higher end talent so you have a pipeline. You’d like to think there are more advanced players taking those roles - Willis, Conway, Henry, Bruhn, Knevitt etc etc.

Filling the pipeline with multiple end of draft picks is something to avoid and although things change we are looking at that situation 12 months out. Hopefully we can learn from the 2015-16 years where we had to back fill with a glut of Abbott, House, Narkle, Buzza, Hayball, Luxford, Gardiner, Ruggles. At least Menegola was a hit but overall we took too many.

Theres no chance sides are throwing in a future 1st for a 5 or 6 pick upgrade, lot of dream land trades being mooted of late.

Not really? The cost of going from a mid teens 1st to a Pick 7 is always a massive amount. Look at what GWS paid to go from 3rd to 1st - Pick 12. Based on history, it's not that much of a stretch to say that a 1st would be included to make that upgrade.

Just spitballing here, but If our target was off the board, and we didn't want to reach for a player we liked (Cowan, Hotton etc) I could see us doing it. Probably take the chance of the Swans sliding next year with a demoralised group, it's happened virtually every time so far after a GF flogging.

A lot would freak out and I can understand why, but we have to remember someone like Phillipou, Ginbey etc may be seen as the 9th best player in the media, but they could be lower on Wells/Mackie's board. We could have a player like Hotton as the 5th best player in the draft per say, and see an opportunity to still get our target without reaching and getting an extra pick to boot.

We often forget that clubs draft boards are almost completely different to media consensus after the top 3 or so picks.

And even as recruiting evolves it always pays to look at recent top 10 busts as well as late draft gems, both are still a thing..

Btw guys, putting out expressions of interest for a mock draft like we did last year - click here to put your name down if you want to be part of it :)
