With respect to your opening paragraph, my post asking that the to-and-fro end, was not holding you responsible...it was simply a recognition that it was time to move on as the posts were becoming personal. I see it as a Moderator responsibility to keep posts civil, on-topic and where necessary step in where posts are drifting away from football issues.

With respect to your second paragraph, ...yes, I plead guilty for deleting abusive or poster based "contributions" in the (perhaps forlorn) hope that the poster will understand that poster focussed input isn't worth the effort, knowing it will be deleted. And you do have recourse to defend yourself...report it to the Mods for adjudication .. you would be surprised what happens behind the scenes when Mods are made aware of repeated resorting to argumentative and/or inflammatory rhetoric evidenced by sometimes long periods of silence from the perpetrators...you may have noticed the absence of some "personalities" who repeatedly transgressed and ignored Mod warnings...

Bottom line? If your attacked personally let the Mods deal with it behind the scenes. Responding publicly only feeds the troll/abuser..much better dealt with by us as we have recourse to actions that you don't have,

Hey mate,

Thanks for that, really appreciate you taking the time out to post all that - it really means a lot :)

Don't usually get too put offside as I understand things can get heated, but it was tough to stomach having vitriol flung at me - given I'd already accepted an impasse had been reached days earlier and hadn't discussed things any further as requested.

Good to have an understanding of things from a Mod's POV, so I can best equip myself in future to use you guys to deal with less desirable posts.

Thanks again for all you guys do, and sorry if we make it difficult sometimes with incidents like this, haha.

Cheers,

Shadow

Philipou for mine, and then we invite GAblett snr to come to the club and mentor this kid, who nominated Gary as his GOAT

Good luck with that. But I think that there is no chance of seeing senior in any capacity at the club.
I would suggest that there is more chance with Junior, but the chances are still slim.

Anyone else warming to the idea of philliphou with our first pick if clark is gone??

Always being unavailable in the build up to finals absent at the US Open is a tad concerning tbh.

(Clark) Is he though? Or is he the BPA in the midfield section?
and that be inside mid IMO??
The BPA scenario is a furry of sorts, it should be in a category. Mids both in/out forwards tall/med/small backs tall/mediums/small...etc
Do we want/need a inside mid? or a winger? what about a Forward big or medium? A key defender or medium defender?
Clark is a a small pure inside mid yes?
Does he fit our needs? No i can't see it myself.
Bruhn, Knevitt, Willis, Kroeger, Bowes, Parfitt, Atkins all inside mids for me. Add Clohesy thats 8 without using Danger.
5 of those are/will be under 21.
We have zero depth at FF/CHF bar Neale who is on his last year of his contract and FB/CHB where we have Sav who also is on his last year.
As for the Ruck department. We have Conway and 2 players that are 31 and 32 respectively.
Questions though. Have we got any Free agents or RFA that we have targeted for next year? McKay? Ruckman? Parish?
If so... that changes everything year again.
I'm not too focused on Clark the falcon or the Selwood clone rather than what would be a better fit for us going forward.
For me players like Busslinger, Humphrey, MacKenzie, Phillipou, Hayes even Darcy Jones offer us more in terms of ceilings and variety of positions they could play.
Interesting times ahead. I can't wait.
Cheers PO

I agree and have basically said this in the past.

Potential Free Agent targets could sway our draft picks one way or another (depending on if we are a real shot to land them or not) and us punters really don't know what's happening behind the scenes.

Clark (whilst I like him) is definitely a little on the smaller side & I wouldn't mind a Humprey or Phillipou if we are looking to take a mid.

Time will tell on this one... I do feel we will land Clark though.

Busslinger def a sneaky chance though if Wells really rates him, because our tall stocks are at a real minimum.

I reckon if you said at the start of the year that we could get Clark in the draft (who was a potential top 5 prospect) + bring in Bruhn, Bowes and Henry + win the flag by 80+ points... I would've probably taken that deal.

It's all gravy here in Gtown.

IMO we go the safe option with high picks. Its pretty much impossible to pick long term upside but you can identify known risks and you just try and minimize those. Without knowing what the draft team has its impossible to guess how they rank the options, And I have absolutely no idea personally.

We do have a history of being able to bring in elite talent for a fair price later on if we don't draft them ourselves as well.

Had a read through the rumours on the main board. Some of this info may be old news to some/most of you. Summary below (and take all of these with a grain of salt):
  • we are very keen on the other Davey brother (Jayden), apparently met with him three times
  • we are ‘wedded’ to Jhye Clark, but so are Hawthorn with p6
  • Sydney really keen on Humphrey and willing to trade 2x firsts to move up the order
  • clubs are wary of taking Tsatas given his recent comments about wanting to stay in VIC, if North and Essendon don’t take him, some suspect Hawks and Geelong will both overlook him too, and he could slide to St Kilda at p9

I’d be keen to slide maybe 1 or 2 picks back max to add a pick next year in the 20s. Fill that hole. I’d be reluctant to have multiple F1st next year bc if we are seriously looking at Parish or Doedee we don’t want another match situation were clubs exploit our multiple picks (Ala Cameron)

I think of all the players in the draft Clark will be the slider. He didn’t have a super game in the most recent U/18 game which was 3 months after the actual championships and is probably (rightly or wrongly) seen as having less untapped upside. Bit like Hobbs last year.

I reckon the rush will come for clubs desperate for a “home run” with the riskier Phillipou, Gibney, Allen, Humphrey etc. Be very happy with Clark or Busslinger. I just don’t see Tsatas sliding that far. Huge upside. I see why GC have reservations but Essendon, Hawthorn and us seem perfect fits.

If Tsatas is available we will pick him I reckon...

Both Davey brothers have nominated Essendon.

Hello folks,
Has Sam Simpson overcome his concussion problems?
I have him in a keeper league and don't know whether to keep him.
Cheers.

Rather go in next years draft.
Out of goodwill trade Gold Coast pick 7 back for their 2023 first and change. We owe them one because they just gave us one for the future leadership group.

Just watched the two u/18 games on Fox in full watching Clark exclusively and gee wizz there wasn’t a great deal to get excited about. Actually some worrying signs. Maybe not worrying signs. He’s smart and tough would be the two things that stood out on the positive.

I’d say he is this years Hobbs for sure. I’d be outright staggered if the Hawks picked him when they already have Worpel, Newcombe, Ward, Long and Stephens. Absolutely no chance

Would be picking Phillipou over Clark every day of the week.

Weve offered him a contract but dont think hes signed on yet. Im betting he pulls the pin which would be sad as i think hes a talent, but you gotta put your health first.

Yep....IF his attitude is an issue, we know Geelong won't pick him. That said, the clip I saw of him, he seemed fine but of course Wells/Mackie will have a much better handle on that than me.

Time will tell.

I have Humphrey and Phillipou both ahead of Clark, in terms of ceiling.

I wonder what's happening with Connor McKenna.

p.s I was having major problems with the webpage keep wanting to refresh back at the top of the screen every time I scrolled down in this thread, think it had something to do with the Toyota advertising banner... did others have this problem also?

My post was more intended to confer the outstanding attitude that Clark has rather than to reflect poorly on Phillipou.
