Yep....IF his attitude is an issue, we know Geelong won't pick him. That said, the clip I saw of him, he seemed fine but of course Wells/Mackie will have a much better handle on that than me.

Time will tell.

Had it confirmed to me last night that Phillipou isn’t a bloke you want at your club - “extremely arrogant and disrespectful” were the words used.

Have seen a couple of suggestions Geelong may look at Sydney Stack as a DFA. Surely not?

Wouldnt mind pushing back down the ordee for both sydneys picks if our preferred midfielder/s are unavailable.

Then in that scenario nab 2/3 of olli hotton, busslinger, hayes.

Walk away with a top mid and a future quality key defender.

Some of the talk is sydney is into humphries, but i imagine if he is available we will select him, so i doubt sydney will do the trade if his off the board.

That's strange as i've heard the opposite... depends who you want to hear it.
Disrespectful is the funny one... Who was disrespected? Is being confident being disrespectful?
Is being steadfast in your conviction on views or values seen as being disrespectful??
Who made the claim is another.
Kinda reminds me of NFL teams muck racking to ensure players slip to them.
It can't happen here could it?? lol
Of course it could.
I respect you input Boris but i have to question on who what where when and it what context it was made.
Cheers Bud.

Without giving away too much info, the feedback was from a school teacher of Mattaes’. Someone whose opinion I respect highly.

I think we will be unlikely to push any picks down or into next year.

At pick 8 it seems there is a possibility you could get one of the best 1-2 players in the draft. The likelihood of that diminishes quickly after pick 7-8 I reckon. Even 8 might be 1 or 2 too low.

It would demoralise the competition if we pick a kid at 8 who comes in and has a big impact straight away.

Feeds on that sense we are ahead of the competition. Need to ram home the advantage we have now.

I remember two school teachers who were good friends of mine telling me how a certain young aspiring player was not going to amount to much as he was an arrogant lazy selfish self entitled brat that had little respect for anyone.
That player ended up playing over 300+ games for the Cats & Suns with a Brownlow, Premiership medals and a MVP to boot.
Moral of my story. Dont believe in Teachers. Mine said i'd amount to nothing, have nothing and go no where in life.
Hahah... how wrong they were is all i'll say.
Cheers bud.

Def don't go off what teachers say.

My teachers thought I'd go very far in life... But I spend half of my life on a football forum.
My teacher once told my mother that Ned Kelly isn't dead while I was still alive ... I think she was right.

I have Humphrey and Phillipou both ahead of Clark, in terms of ceiling.

I wonder what's happening with Connor McKenna.

p.s I was having major problems with the webpage keep wanting to refresh back at the top of the screen every time I scrolled down in this thread, think it had something to do with the Toyota advertising banner... did others have this problem also?
Yep- thought I had a computer virus. I cleared out all Google posts for the last month and issue resolved.

I am not aware of Clark's attitude but I do know that Phillipou by reports from all his coaches works harder and his more determined to be great than almost any kid they have worked with.

I think our no dickheads policy has worked very well for us and long may it do so.
I trust our recruitment team to sort out the wheat from the chaff so whoever we pick will pass our character test.

In terms of Phillipou I would also trust the opinion of or SA talent scouts - we have done extremely well out of SA with recruits so the talent scouts there seem to really know their stuff.

Perception is interesting - whereas some saw arrogance in his interviews I saw a confident , articulate young man who seems very determined as well.
As I said those 2 interviewers were clearly young amateurs who were a bit underwhelming yet Phillipou was patient and answered all questions with respect and consideration. His clips look promising and he claims competitiveness as his 1 wood - gotta love that plus the reference to Snr :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

This is absolute and utter garbage. The person who told you that is either someone who has no idea or someone who is pathetically jealous. Who said it and how would they know?

What was the context? How was he disrespectful or arrogant. That's a hell of a thing to say about a kid without justifying it. The slanderous attacks on children's (that's right they are still children) characters is really ordinary from keyboard warriors who don't back anything up. Perhaps you can outline the behaviour rather than just accuse a kid of something you would hate to have written about you on the internet with zero evidence. Whether it is Matteas or someone else this garbage should stop. Either prove something or don't post it. Writing unproven stuff like that on the internet is embarrassing

If Simpson either retires or is moved to the rookie list that means we have 3 list spots I believe. Unless we end up trading pick 7 I can’t see us using the 3rd spot in the draft as it’ll be very late.
That would open the door for us to pick up a delisted free agent.
Not really any obvious candidates but will be interesting to see which way we go.

Reminds me of John Scarlett in his school days and a sure bet Matthew wasn't any better. Not grounds to disregard him for me.

I don’t agree with labeling a 17 year old as no good because of their character. I have no problems drafting a kid even if they spent half their time suspended from school - they’d grow up quick smart at the GFC or watch their dream slip.

Not going to pretend that school is even important when you learn no life skills there. I left without a clue about the real world.

I have "heard" nothing, and even if I had "heard" something I would give it no credence whatsoever until something substantial in the way of evidence turned up. We're all in the process of becoming and this is certainly true in the case of a 17 yo lad navigating a widening world.

In any event one assumes Wells and Mackie will make up their own minds about the character and attitude of the draftees in whom they have an interest.

I think we can rookie list a DFA if we didn't want to use a list spot, or didn't have a spot available.

Lol the last time I even hinted at this I was widely pilloried...so will be interesting to see how this is received now that someone else is saying it

Not being received that well second time around either it seems.

There's reference to his age, but next month he'll be considered an adult, able to drink, smoke and be held legally accountable, as an adult, for all he says and does.

No doubt still young and stupid, but not unreasonable to suggest that the foundation for his personality has long been established.

That said, I don't know him from a bar of soap so can't speculate, or contest, whether he has a good head on his shoulders or not.

If they delist/re-rookie Sam Simpson... might be a tactic to delist him just before the draft? that way it gives less time for other clubs to enquire and do their due diligence...

When do list spots need to be finalised? eg all delistings must be completed?
