of course there's every chance that Henry will develop further - enough to demand 2 first rounders
The guy that you parked in the 2s that was publicly getting in on field shouting matches with his team mates?

He likely won't play a senior game at Collingwood next year even if he signs a contract. Macrae won't risk giving air time to voices that aren't committed.

I honestly think he would make it to 25. Coaches would veto their list managers bringing in a kid who clearly didn't want to be there.

You're adding a culture problem for the coach to manage on the assumption that you develop him and get a better pick for him than you direct on 12 months? There's a lot of risk.

For a throwaway pick maybe some would consider but pick 25 can land you a player. Why bring in a kid that won't be a player for you?

I agree. Im sure a deal gets done but if it doesnt he can get here via the draft.

I mean theres techincally every chance i win the lottery next week but it probably wont happen either.

Pies are a joke. After throwing Grundy a long term player to the wolves, effectively pushing him out the door, They are also “demanding” a top 25 pick and have refused 27 from Melbourne. That’s right, 2 picks down from 25.

Now they are threatening dees with keeping Grundy (despite not fitting in the cap and Grundy wanting nothing to do with them) unless they get Melbourne’s 13 and 27 for Grundy and 16.

No wonder we’re fed up with these pretenders.

Pushed out treloar, Phillips, Grundy and put unrealistic demands on other clubs. The new Essendon.

As for Henry - pick 25 or see ya. We Will likely get him in the draft with 25 and I hope that’s were it goes.

He won’t sign on with pies.

We gave up a pick 15 Clark, while contracted for pick 22. He took was out if our team after 35ish games.

Henry is uncontracted. You rarely get fair value losing an uncontracted player. You bent us over with Krueger last year - who you chose to play in September above Henry. You’ll lose this time.

Pies doing a lot if chest beating. But you’re also unrealistic.

25 or see ya. We will end up with him in the draft as clubs won’t use a top 25 pick on a player looking to move to 1 club. You have no leverage

What makes you think he wants to resign with Pies? Do you have any word on that. It’s not a given he just walks back in that generally only happens after failed trade attempts when the player is contracted.

Hes had like 3 good games in defence...sure he might do a liam jones but he might also be delisted in 12mths...media is jumping the gun.
I dont see how his complete inability to read the ball in flight is addressed simply by moving him to defence, if anything its going to be exposed even more, couple VFL games against hacks and one senior game against a non existent forward line when the ball hardly even went down there hasn't done much to swing my opinion either, pick 33 would be a steal for us.

Sav is lucky there's so little open market key defensive options in all honesty.

Totally agree with this. Players of Henry’s quality don’t come along every day, let alone the family connection meaning he will be a Cat for life if we get the deal done.

There may be no obvious immediate need for Henry in our 2023 side but it’s highly likely Hawkins and Rohan are both done in the next 24 months and by then Cameron will be 30+. He will play plenty of senior footy and kick plenty of goals for Geelong.

I see Henry as being a more valuable asset than Bruhn and would have traded #18 for Henry early in the trade period.

On top of that if the deal doesn’t get done we’ve given up an enormous amount of picks both now and 2023 for very little.
Enormous amount of picks we where never going to use. They where only really valuable points wise, probably most valuable was fr2. But will be pick 35-40 odd after bid etc so while a lot in volume, I wouldn’t say an enormous amount. Pick25 this year will still get you a handy player.

Knocked back a 3 year deal then knocked back a one year deal, its pretty blatant that he doesn't want to be there not sure he crawls back with his tail between his legs if the deal isnt done and they'll know that regardless of the current stance.

If SDK or Henry goes down, who plays KPD?
We need a replacement for him if he goes, and I don’t see one available.
P33 is tempting but if anything we need more KPD rather than shipping out our only backup.

Im trying to work out/determine whether your 2nd sentence is actually more dumber than your 1st sentence
I don't think he said anything there that was unreasonable.

We're talking about a coach here who wouldn't even let his players lie on the ground from exhaustion in a final. Do you really think he's going to select a player who already wasn't best 22, and clearly doesn't want to be there? It goes against everything McCrae is trying to promote.

As for the draft selection, I sure as hell wouldn't want us selecting a guy who we knew was out by the next year. If it was a pick in the 60s a club might give it a crack, but this is the top 25. Clubs pay a premium for access to these picks.

Agree with this.

For a sport based on kicking goals in order to win, genuine goal kickers are bloody hard to find. It's changed our side so much in the last 24 months having multiple outlets to goal.

As you say, players of Henry's ilk and potential don't come along often.

i think alot of this goes back to the "fire sale" from a few years ago where they really upset alot of their supporters and are trying to win a bit of love back by pulling a number of trades over several clubs and taking a bow to the crowd.

I don't think mackie and wells nor melbourne are going to buy the manure... they can accept what both clubs offer at the end of the day. Their past F ups are not our problem

Then why is Collingwood so keen to retain him?

yes he does like his team mates and enjoys being at the club. It's just that he prefers to be closer to where he grew up and more importantly, wants to play along with his brother.
Unlike fans, players are conditioned to moving clubs - as long as their working environment is harmonious and players generally get along with each other, they're not attached to the colours like fans are.
TBH I don't know how this will end up (none of us do) but Henry might want to sign with us when he realises Geelong don't value him as much as he thought they did.

I think we underestimated Collingwood’s resolve a little. I actually think Geelong are being very unreasonable when it comes to Henry. But I clearly place a higher value on him than Geelong do.

I would have done either of our first round picks straight away. Not 7 but the other two.

I think he is a very promising player.

I think we assessed it and set out to get it done without losing our Fr1. Our Fr1 is considered more important than adding OH.

We did Bruhn quickly, when we did not have to... then we traded out the full kitchen pantry to get 25 thinking it was close to the value to get it done... ensuring Fr1 was off the table.

Its seems obvious now that if we have just done some sort of deal with Collingwood early on maybe we get Henry done for our Fr1 and a Fr3 or something back for the Bowes trade.

all three would be done ..but we would have no Fr1 next year. But we would have all the other picks.

I think we decided a while ago that OH was not an urgent need for the next year or two ..we had other priorities..namely rebuilding the midfield. We focused on Hopper... and if we had been trying to get a contracted Hopper , its touch and go if we would have had enough to get Bruhn done...let alone Henry.

What I am a little surprised about is still no other players signally they would like out. So much midfield talent coming in... there will be some sad players next year ..they can not all play.

Who took over a team who finished 17th of 18 - the previous season and were $67 in preseason markets to win the flag - and under his guidance they finished top 4 - so dont go bagging him mate

And who we narrowly beat in the qual final - and if that tight result had gone the other way - i think there is a fair chance that Coll would be Premiers

If the boot was on the other foot - and Max Holmes wanted out - 95% of Geel B/Footy posters would be demanding a 1st round pick - or theyd be saying his new club destination can go to bugggery

If Coll refuse 25 - i think ( and ive stated it ) that Henry wont burn Coll - and i will sign a new contract with them - and the games i watched he seemed great mates with the other young Coll players

Isn't the story he knocked back the 3-year deal cos it was considered "unders"? There are other factors in play too. One is not being played and the other is feeling his opportunities will be further limited with the recruitment of McStay and Hill. Then, of course, there's the pull of playing with his brother.

Not what we have heard. There are so at the club he doesn't get along with.

Every player should be able to choose where he plays ... Collingwood should support that... a high percenatge of kids in the draft would choose Collingwood if given a chance.

You do not know hoe this will end up ...but you are willing to cut the re wire instead of the blue. and just hope this is not a lethal weapon movie. I think the thing you are under valuing is wht you have with the Dacios 's. He want to play with his brother... and you showed how much you value him... you played Johnson and krueger and brought in McStay.

If this gos bang on the red wire ...you will have made a point. That you are willing to be a determined as a suicide bomber. Congrats.
