Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

As long as we get two 2nd rounders back.

If it was to be done at end of next year id do this

GWS Receive - 2025 1st , 2026 1st 2027 2nd

Geelong Receive - Cadman, 2025 3rd, 2026 2nd
he is contracted till end of 2026, nothing will get done this trade period.

depend where we finish next year will determine how good our picks will be for the 2025 trade period.

2026.

Still feel like Smith this year, draft again next year, hail mary offer for Reid the year after is the plan.
A few things are aligning - especially if the AFL allow two years worth of first round picks to be offered. It could mean we offer the 26, 27 and 28 first round picks for Reid. We will have to keep the 25 pick in this case and use it so that we are eligible.

Mitch Knevitt and James Willis really need to step it up a gear though to really bring it home though.

Jez on his own well worth the three

Sorry to change topic, but what do you think your chances of landing Warner are? I haven't seen much beyond some vague talk about him. Baker seems to be the one the drums are beating louder over?
There's been plenty of chatter around Perth that he's pretty much a certainty to come back home, but the consensus seems to be that it will happen next year. An ITK on our board dropped the news a few months before the media got any wind of it, but they also weren't sure if it was to us or Eagles.

Baker the more obvious one since he's out of contract, but more likely to end up at west coast you'd think.

Cheers, thanks. This year would've been handy for you guys holding the Pies 1st, but he's a player you just find a way to make the trade happen.

I think it's inevitable that he goes, we just have to hope it's us that's the destination.

I mean, the guy said he was excited to play with Jamaine Jones the day after the draft.

Jamaine ****ing Jones. There would be Geelong supporters who forgot he even played here.

He's a Cats nuffy at heart.
He needs the Dangerfield treatment in Round 24

Jack Lukosius, a player who is an excellent kick and who seems to be deep in the Dimma doghouse so should be gettable and fits the age profile nicely

Depends on expectations. A player with his skills will always have a place even if he is not the big key forward everyone is hoping for. Could be a good back or forward in the right system and GCS are not the best with young talent.
Not saying he isn't a decent player... Seems like a Jack Watts Mk2.

Apparently he is on plenty and we'd need to cough up a bit for him.

Don't think he is a live possibility anyway... Adelaide maybe.

Have him play the old Mackie role off a HBF to replace Duncan.

Only when they steal them from Melbourne and play Essendon :tonguewink:

The issue with him is he is similar to Jeremy Cameron with the way he plays further up the ground. He is a better field kick than Cameron but doesn't have that same competitiveness. If used as a roaming ChF type who links the backline to the forwordline he would be very good for the right team. Not sure he fits with Cameron

So a lot of talk here about drafting a ball winning midfielder and tall forward.

I think the focus should be a line breaking half back, which allows us to push holmes back in to the midfield. I would've thought our forward line is already sorted. Maybe its not as good as the dogs, but its better than any other side IMO.

Then to finish off the midfield maybe save trades and capital for Harley Reid.

Agree with all that, also believe he could be phenomenal playing permanent half back. He’s always been asked to play pseudo key position at the Suns, loose half back he would be a steal if you could get him for a pick in the 20s that has been bandied around.

What do we do to snag a pick in the 20's?

Not sure, never plays out how any of us think. Our boys are super creative so nothing would surprise. Lukosius may have zero interest in playing for Geelong and vice versa, but if there is a sniff I’d back Mackie to give it a realistic shot.

Biggest issue with lukosius is that he has simply been at GC for too long.

He needed to leave a couple of years ago, he is now fully formed as an adult and footy player. The environment that he has been in has been so non-competitive and has no doubt affected his development.

I would avoid him, it would take at least 2 seasons to teach him how to play in a manner that assists winning rather than just self preservation. Playing for crappy clubs since you came into the league will do that to a player. He has been playing for self preservation for too long to be able to change quickly.
